hi, im brand new to these forums.

ive come here as i am trying to reach parents to let them know about the affordable warmth scheme. its part o fthe energy company obligation (ECO).

its an iniative from the government to reduce carbon emmision levels in the UK.

If your on child tax credit or working tax credit and have a child living with you then you may qualify for a replacment boiler, loft insulaion and cavity wall insulation in your house or rented house completely free of charge.

the boilers are energy efficiant so they will reduce your energy bills. that is what is so good about the scheme.

MODERATOR: thanks for the heads-up on the scheme, I have removed the personal numbers and email as this is against the Forum rules. Anyone who would like to find out more, look at this website (click)

Hi, I've been looking into this after someone at work mentioned it.  I had put in an offer on a house which the sellers accepted on the grounds that they didn't have to get the boiler serviced if it was found inefficent in the survey.

I agreed after my colleague told my about the scheme, and that I could get a free boiler.

There is one thing I am confused about and can't seem to find the answer on the schemes web site.  It says that you qualify for a free boiler if you earn £15860 or less.  My annual wage is £15810. However, I get working and child tax credit, and child benefit on top of this.  Do these take me over the threashold, or is it just based on my wage?

The seller changed her mind and withdrew her offer after she got a bad survey on the house she was buying, so it doesn't matter so much now, but I am still interested.

Thanks.

Hi Rosedragon, I am not sure of the answer here.

I was just looking at the website, it keeps mentioning (with your relevant income below £15,860),  however it doesn't explain what income is relevant! I think to find the answer I would fill in the details and see what they say when they contact you!

If you do go ahead and try and find out, do let us know.Smile

I think it looks as if it is your income BEFORE these benefits...definitely worth enquiring. See here

Sparkling lime has highlighted a really good scheme in Wales to us that will even provide a new boiler in some instances, and certainly insulation help to people with income under the threshold. See here

...ooh and here is a helpful page about some boilers in England!!! Please note that it is only for those who are buying their homes or in private rented, not in Housing Association or Council property.
