I am sorry I do not know the definitive answer to this question. I had assumed that childcare costs were calculated on an annual basis then divided by 52 by Working Tax Credit when you make your claim so that determines how much money you get for childcare. As far as your child minder goes, they will have a policy for absentee children on holiday and this chould be in your contract with them....basically it is up to them what you have to pay them

yeah but i ment what do i need to do ,if my childminder didnt ask me to pay while i am away ,do i need to call revenue and they will stop childcare money for the time i am off or i dont have to inform them? I dont wanna keep taking money if i am not entiteled to it and than ,they will ask me to pay back ..

Hi majorka,

I understand your concern, but I don't think there is much you can do about it now until after the Christmas period. The situation is made more difficult by the fact that you can only ever really get definitive answers about these issues by telephoning the Department of Work & Pensions and that costs a small fortune!

I'm inserting link for the DWP website here just in case you haven't already looked at it.

Please try not to think too much about it - I'd hate to think that this could spoil your Christmas. Have a lovely break.

Mary is right, nothing you can do about it at this stage. If your childminder does NOT charge for the period then you can advise the Working Tax Credit people after Christmas and they will adjust the money over the rest of this tax year (ie between now and April)

i contacted the benefit adviser and they told me i dont have to inform nobody coz i am entiteled to a holiday so i know that i am still getting tax credits and housing benefit but the childcare bit is confusing me ;/its always so much hassle with all those things .Thank you anyway and Happy Christmas ;)

At the end of each tax year you have to fill in a form, it says what your income was and what your childcare costs were and then you get assessed on that. My suggestion above was that you have a look at your last Award Notice (for the current year)and see what you ESTIMATED your childcare costs to be for the year...and if you think (because of this holiday or any other reason) that your childcare costs will be significantly lower than the amount on the Award Notice then you should contact the Tax Credit people and let them know what your new estimated annual total for childcare will be.
