so. i have forgotten to renew my tax credits this year, and they have stopped them now, i am so not happy, its my fault, i was wondering, how long would it take for them to bring back my payments, i already have called them. and if they will backdate me from the date they have stopped my tc? i am in bad financial situation atm!
Hope you're not waiting too long.
Are we supposed to renew our child tax credit claim annually, and how? I didn't know this.
I was switched over from Income Support to Employment Support Allowance and then to Job Seekers Allowance last year (May 2010). I received a lot of forms, many duplicates, in the post at the time and filled them all in and returned them immediately. However, this year I've not received a single form apart from a tax summary.
So many things have been chopped and changed it gets terribly confusing - and I'm actually very good at keeping records of everything.
I haven't been on the child tax credit long, as mine was all in with the Income Support. I'm also wondering this now too harissa.
Hi there
You shouldn't have to make a new claim for child tax credit however I believe you should be sent a renewal for yearly.
Harissa you can Ask our Money Expert who can give you clear advice and then pop back here and let us know the answer!!
Yes, you will be sent a review pack if you have to renew it.
Louise, would you know if the review packs are sent out regularly each year or just every so often when there is a change?
Hi harissa
The renewal packs are sent out annually (around May/June) to those who are working. If you have been on Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance for the whole of the previous tax year, you will normally just get an Annual Statement, although you are still expected to inform the Tax Credits people of any change in circumstances.
Thanks. That's reassuring to know.
Hopefully they will backdate them, MichellePierre and it does not take many days to reinstate the payments so as long as you have spoken to someone who has it in hand, you should get a letter in about 3-4 days specifying the actual payment dates
I totally understand why you have forgotten to renew the claim with everything you have had going on but please remember that you must always do EVERYTHING to do with benefits or the roof over your head as an absolute priority, whatever stress you are under, or it causes even more stress, as you are suffering now.
Fingers crossed for you!
