i have recently completed the parenting skills course which has been brill i have learnt a lot from it , my son has autism still under diagnosis to confirm the level he is at, i was wondering if one space could create a course for this or if any other parent(s) are aware of any free courses available online or in the greater manchester area that i could do to make my understanding of his condition more clearer. i have attended a group session in blackburn however it is a little too far and i cant get out of work to attend it

.Any help and advice would be brilliant

Thank you for reading

Hi DaveBailey77

Glad you enjoyed the course, we are very enthusiastic about our online learning.

We have a few parents here who have children with conditions on the autistic spectrum so hopefully they will come along and comment. How old is your son and maybe you could tell us about the process you have been through so far, in seeking a diagnosis and how day to day life with with your little boy? We would be glad to give you support.

You might also be interested in a local Manchester group for parents of autistic children, click here to have a look.

can somone please tell me how a doctor can refuse to diagnose a child with high functioning autism based on a farther who does not want it, he has no overnight stay (his choice) no interest in them other than this will make my life but more importantly my sons life easier any help would be great.

Hi activekitty

I know there is often a reluctance to put a "label" on a child (even though this would open doors for you and your son). What I don't quite understand is how the doctor's "refusal to diagnose" is affected by your son's dad's behaviour, can you explain that to us a bit more please?

My son was diagnosed through the school by the teachers, the special educational wneeds organiser and the educational psychologist.

They would have done the test whether I agreed or not.

I did approach my GP but he wouldn't get involved as he left it to the school.
