Hi majorka:)

Go to your local nursery, childrens centre or school with a nursery attached. Ask them for a pre school nursery aplication form. Not all private nurserys do this though. You have to do it really soon as i think the aplications close soon.

If your really stuck contact citizens advice or your local council, they should be able to help you further:)

Hope this helps. Good luck

Hi majorka. No, your son doesn't have to go to a nursery. It is totally your choice, and he goes to a childminder so that you then go to work. You're happy with her with the minder, and I'm sure your son is content there. Have you looked into local nurseries that are attached to the infant schools? When he is older, you can enrol him in one of these, or your son can just go straight into reception class.

Hi majorka, it would depend on when your son's Birthday is as their is a cut of date that is at the end of August, so if your child's Birthday is at the beginning of September  they can be five when they actual start primary school or go into the Reception Class (this is a newish term for infant class), but if you childs Birthday is in the August before the cut of date they could have just turn't four.  so depending on when you childs Birthday is it is between 4-5 years old, that they have to start school.

You would normally get sent the admissions information from your Local Council and School Admissions department in the year before your child would need to start school.

It is a good idea though to get them a place at a Nursery School before this as it gets children ready for a school type setting and can often introduce them to children that will be their class mates when they do go into Reception and that really helps children with the transition.
