Help Please!

My name is Laura Dewar and I work for the Single Parent Action Network the charity that runs One Space.

As some of you will know I wrote short guidance on your rights while on JSA and the flexibilities that should be open to you to also care for your children.

We also have a hard copy of the guidance (which can be requested from me if you email L.dewar@spanuk.org.uk).

The funders for the leaflet production are keen to see the impact of the work and particularly where single parents have used the leaflet to challenge practice at Jobcentre Plus or the Work Programme.  Could you help?  Would you be happy to be a casestudy?  Your personal details would of course not be shared.

This would really help our charity to do similar work in the future and help us to help you stand up for your rights.

Many thanks

dont know if i should post this but if its in your job seekers agreement to log into universal jobmatch everyday and find it a real pain this app is great

Very interesting, threegreatkids, it is an app which searches for jobs and applies for them automatically.

I think great caution is needed here as you may end up applying for all sorts of things that you could not do eg night shifts when you have young children and I would also be wary of giving my personal data to be sent out to random recipients. The article you have linked to also stresses that the app is in its early stages and needs to be approached with care. I wonder if employers can tell which applications have been submitted through this app? As an employer I would only want to take on someone who had taken the time and trouble to apply for it themselves. However I do understand the beauty of being able to cut some corners in this dis-spiriting process!

Pam

Wow! I have just looked at the link provided by threegreatkids. Do jobcentres really make claiments do online job searches for 35 hours/week? What a ridiculous waste of time. Time that single parents already have too little of. It reminds me of stories about how criminals are forced to do pointless but difficult activities like rock breaking as a punishment. Shocking! What kind of country is this becomming.

I don't "think" it has got to 35 hours a week yet but certainly a number of hours' input, Pam. Great analogy with the rock-breaking.

There has been talk of people attending the job centre daily, to look for jobs...erm hang on, remember those Job Clubs of the 1980s?

Would you like the chance to win £50 worth of High Street Vouchers?

If you are a single parent on Jobseekers Allowance we want to hear about your experience of Job Seeker's Agreements.

We are conducting a short survey online to find out about whether your Agreement with the job centre takes account of your need to also care for your child/children.

We will use the evidence in our interaction with politicians and policy makers to try to improve the services offered to single parents who are job seekers.

You are eligible to complete the survey if you are a single parent with at least one child aged 16 or under who lives with you, you are currently on Jobseekers Allowance and have a Jobseeker's Agreement (or Claimant Commitment).

Please complete the survey by Wednesday 4th December

Many thanks

A4E lady told me that its a waste of time applying off universal jobmatch anyway as most employers think that most who use that site are doing so because they have to,not want to

That's interesting threegreatkids. Although I think it is a good place to start, even if it isn't always working properly!

How is it going with A4E?
