Could somebody please let me know if you have to actively seek work during the christmas period??
Hello Minskywoo,
\according to Direct.gov.uk: (http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@benefits/documents/digitalasset/dg_199922.pdf)
"If you are unable to meet the requirements to be available for and actively seeking work, you should discuss this with your adviser as soon as possible. Whatever the age of your child, there are circumstances where we may treat you as meeting one or both of these requirements for a period of time. These circumstances include:
• if it would be unreasonable for you to make other arrangements for your child’s care during the school holidays or whilst they are excluded from school, for example, because you are unable to arrange affordable and appropriate childcare. If these circumstances apply you will need to explain to your adviser why it is unreasonable for you to make other arrangements."
So you should be able to explain why you didn't. But to be sure of the RIGHT answer, why don't you use the Ask the Experts feature on this site and send them a request for information? They know a lot more then me!

its not about childcare. i just wondered if we had to carry on jobsearch during holidays. i have been doing anyway just incase.
thank you anyway :)
Hi there
I would have thought that your Job Centre Advisor would have discussed this with you before Christmas if it was any different.
Personally, I would have thought it was reasonable for you to carry on looking for/applying for work during normal working times ie every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years' Day. Many people work these days as well though! However, I imagine there are less things advertised if some firms are shut down. So I think you've done the right thing
thank you louise :)
Please help me?
