Hello,
my name is Katja Kopfer. I am student of the London South Bank University and enrolled for the Master course International Human Resources.
At the moment, I am writing my master dissertation on the topic "Perceptions of German and UK employees on the use of flexible working in resolving the work-family balance".
If you are living and working in the UK and have caring responsibilities (children under 18 and/or elderly/handicapped relatives you care for), I will ask you kindly to participate in the survey to support my research. Your answers will be handled anonymously and confidentially and will be used for this study only. Answering the questionnaire will only take you 5 to 10 minutes.
Please use the following link to the survey:

Thank you very much for your support!
Best regards,
Katja Kopfer.
Hello Anna,
thank you very much for completing my survey.
It is also valuable to refer to the article.
I'll publish a summary of my research here (hopefully in September) to give additional information if you like.
Cheers, Katja.
Yes, I have done it too and hope that lots of people will respond
Thank you very much for your help!
The survey is now closed as I have enough respondents.
Best regards,
Katja.
Could someone tell me if my employer has a legal right to ask me to request flexible hours? I was thinking to do so in a few months time, after my relatives leave so i can take care od my Precious by myself but I havent made my mind yet. My manager spoke to me yesterday demanding my written request. He also mentioned a meeting with him and hr regarding my hours. I told him that I have not request anything yet so there is no reason to meet. Also I have applied for a transfer to another department, which offers 9-5 Mon-Fri only but Im afraid that my manager will do everything to keep me with him as I have been doing all his work and covering up any hours for a year. Please advise if you can
Ah it sounds as if he wants you to request flexible hours so that can be noted and the new 9-5 place will say oh dear we can't accommodate that, and he will not lose you. As far as I am aware, as a parent of a young child you are ABLE to request flexible working if YOU want, as long as you have been there 26 weeks but you do not have to. However, rather than take my workd as gospel, best to check the position with the ACAS Helpline, who are up to speed with employment law.
Here is the stuff about flexible working from the Government's site.
thank you Louise, i just call ACAS, they told me that if my employer declines my request for flexible hours I can put a grievance against him. I really do not want to do that as I really like working for my company, so lets hope that my boss is clever:)
thanks again for your help
