Hope we are allowed to say when we have seen good films - either at the pictures or hired
Brilliant film at the cinema - War Horse
Hired - The Social Network - not that great - over long
Hired - The Reader - brilliant - loved it
Going to see Mirror Mirror on Monday
I recently joined Lovefilms (last week) and have been watching flms online since, two or three a day, 4.99 a month for all you can watch. They do some more expencive packages where you can have dvds delivered to your door too, but online is allright for me : )
'The Bench'
'Chiko'
'Neds'
To name but three, I've watched 20 odd in the space of a week : ) They have lots of europien films and bollywood films, it's really quite good : )
'Attack the Block' too which was good I thought, very funny.
I think I have seen The Bench. But then maybe I am getting mixed up.
One European film I can recommend is The Lives of Others, which is a subtitled film about the Stasi (secret police in East Germany) It was absolutely compelling.
The lives of others is good. The Bench is about an old alcoholic who by chance bumps into his daughter who he has had nothing to do with since she was about seven and now has a son and is escaping from a violent relationship. It has the 'killer' (the one who actualy did the killing) from the Swedish detective drama 'The Killing' in it : )
My kids love the Bollywood films, I suppose because they are all full of colour and dancing and singing : )
This is a good one... Lagaan and this one, Taare Zameen Par, it made me cry : ) But lots others too.
I keep meaning to watch some Bollywood films...
There are some good ones, even the serious gritty ones still manage to burst into song and dance.
They do tend to be a bit long though.
: )
Lagaan is one of my favourits I've seen.
Just been to see Mirror Mirror - good film - especially when paying using Tesco vouchers - so free really
Went with youngest - she also enjoyed it
Excellent new thread, LRH, have just moved it from the chatroom bit
I am not a great one for animal films (which is why I did not see War Horse) Went to see Woman in Black, spooky! And also The Best Exotic Marigold hotel, a very gentle film and I would say would only appeal to the 40+age group, and also a warning that at the beginning Maggie Smith's character displays some quite shocking racist attitudes (the film shows that she soon changes her mind)
I saw The Reader quite recently, too, and found it a very powerful film.
The new version of True Grit that came out about a year ago and must surely be for hire now, was also excellent. Ooh and The Iron Lady.
As you can tell, LRH, I love films
