Hi IDT, what a brilliant idea for a thread!! We often start a discussion about what we are going to do with the children for the daunting 6 weeks, but I love the idea of having a space to let off steam!! Cool

It sounds as though you have gotten yourself organised!

Feel free to have a look at our Family Fun section of the website. If you have any top tips, do write them down here and we could create a new article!

The main problem here in the holidays is the food consumption.  Especially the seventeen year old who just chooses not to get the 'one hot meal a day' bit...

How do you manage this sparklinglime? Do you cook large amounts and stick it in the freezer so he can help himself as and when, or do you only allow food at meal times and have one main meal a day?

I have noticed that now my daughter is older, I am so happy with just an egg on toast in the evening, rather than a full meal, I guess you are the same with your omelettes!

I agree the food is the problem, sparkling, that is what I always found. They always ate a lot more! The main meal was the same as it would have been and so was the breakfast but it was the lunch and the in between times.

I have always tried to drill into the boys that they must ASK before they help themselves to anything. This only worked in a limited way so then I had a special place where their own supply was put, once it had gone then it was not replenished until the following week's shopping. Nightmare!

How do you manage it, sparkling?

I don't.  I fail miserably Laughing

I find they get up at noon, and have breakfast, quickly followed by dinner!!

I now do a number of shops during the week.

Aha good strategy! eke it out a bit.....

The mum of one of eldest's friends used to go to Asda EVERY DAY. She spent a massive amount of money on food because her three children "all like different things" and each would be bought a competely separate dinner every day. Now of course there are certain things every person dislikes but when that happens here, I just tweak it eg. add rice or miss out mushrooms, or whatever, for that person.
