Hi,
DD tells me she rode in a cargo trailer attached to a bicycle that her dad was riding on main roads during the contact visit yesterday.
She was not wearing a cycle helmet and the cargo tailer is not designed for carrying children. I know it is not meant for children because I bought it years ago but don't use it anymore and he asked for it from my shed and I gave it to him a week ago not knowing his intentions.
ExH is a bully and aggressive so I'm always being nice to him even when I don't agree with him. I have to come up with a plan as I can't just say "don't do this" as he will probably dig his heels in.
Am I being too cautious or would you agree that he should not be transporting DD in a cargo trailer on main roads in a busy town?
I would like to suggest that he gets a proper child seat to attach to his bicycle but I don't know what age/size they are suitable for - does anyone have one or know what age/size they go up to?
Thanks Louise, I have contacted the legal expert.
Hi englishrose, did you get this issue sorted out?
No response from legal expert. However RAT has bought DD a new bicycle, so no longer using the cargo trailer. Good result.
Apologies for you not receiving a response from our Legal Expert, I am looking into it.
Glad to read though that she now has a new bicycle and hopefully a helmet too?
I think the child seats go up to age 4, or there are weight limits (22kg?), have a look on amazon.
I totally agree re the cargo trailer being unsuitable for use on the road with her in the back....fine on a country track or in a field but not with other vehicles around. it sounds as if you feel you need to "placate" him with a replacement rather than just say "no way are you using the trailer"? I understand that but the priority is your daughter and I auggest a solicitor's letter about this. Why not contact our Legal Expert to ask what the position is in terms of the law.
