No3 son has just asked if we can't all go on a 'proper' holiday this summer. I think he means us all going on a plane and somewhere warm and sunny. (Normally we just go to stay with my mum in Germany which is of course not a 'proper' holiday).
Any ideas how I can do this for them on a tight budget, even if it's only for a week or so?
I can recommend the moneysavingexpert website - people on the forums are great - if you know your budget post a thread and they will come up with something helpful - good luck - wish I could get on a plane even if I had the money
Hi Hopeful, don't know if you've looked at this already. holidays
Note from moderator: editted Holiday information link to take you straight to a list of great holiday ideas for single parents.
Thanks people, I'll have a browse! Never saw that bit, Hazeleyes!
Have had a chat with him - turns out he wants a week with just our little family anywhere - so I can stay in England for this! (if I find somewhere warm though, I'll opt for that!)
Hi Hopeful
I will let you into a little secret! I have been talking with the Youth Hostelling Association who are interested in us helping them with a new promotion for their summer hols. When I find out more I will let you know, but may include a discount.
I have been on a PGL holiday with my daughter and that was a lot of fun, reasonably priced and good for team building and the adventurous!
Also I recently met someone who had done a homeswap with a couple in Italy, she said it was great. Would you consider doing something like that?
I thought of the homeswapping idea, just don't know how to go about it...
Mind you, our pets are a snake, a madagascan hissing cockroach, two turtles and a cat...!!! That would come with it.
Do they do PGL for older ones then?
There are a couple of homeswapping websites on that Holiday list, not sure about the pets though!!
PGL is for all ages have a look at their websites, it is such a fun experience. Good for bonding, fun for the kids and also all meals are cooked for you - couldn't get much better than that! Have a look at their website: PGL
I booked a holiday through Jet2 they were £600 cheaper than Thomas Cook im counting down the days. We have always had week in wales so this is going to be a nice treat.
All inclusive might look expensive but i dont need any spending money. Leaving my card and mobile phone at home
In the summer we are camping a few weekends
£600 is a heck of a difference!
The holiday I have just been on, which was an activity holiday (singing in my case) was an all inclusive so the only money I spent was if I had a glass of wine in the evening,
Have you got all the camping gear? I know you can get all sorts of stuff these days.
I have the full camping set up I bought it bit bu it over a few years. I borrowed stuff the first time I went ecause you never know if you going to like it.
A good idea is look on wesites like gumtree or freecycle place and ad saying wanted people give tents away a lot of the time
That's a good thought. My son is going to a pop festival in August and I don't think ANY of them have got any gear...
We had three really good tents given to the Scout group last year that had been LEFT at a music festival. They're two man tents and must be so cheap to buy that its easier leaving them than taking them, as the Area had loads - Scouts had to go and take them down, and that was it.
Hi I have just joined the site.............hello everyone, I have been reading your posts and liking the support offered to all, I was wondering if anyone out there knows of any good single parent camping organisations, my daughter is 15, we would live to be able to do something during the holidays this year but money is tight.
Hi blue-eyes. Welcome along. I'm not a fan of camping, but I'm sure someone on here could point you in the right direction.
Hello blue-eyes
Welcome along. Have a look at this article about holidays for single parents, there are all sorts of organisations listed for you to look at.
Happy holidays!

Oh, and seeing that he is so against being at home on an everyday basis I think it would be nice, if we could.....
