Hi Emmaharknett, contact our Money and Benefits expert and see what they say. I would be interested to hear the outcome, so do come back and share it please! Smile

I have the opposite problem. No2 son still has not found a job and I've told him he needs to sign on, so that housing benefit and council tax will all be sorted and we won't miss out - I said they are partly his bill and he has to be responsible for this.

So he rang the number for the job center which he found on the internet - turns out there is an answerphone message telling him he has to apply online and then he'll have an interview at an actual job centre.

Now he is intelligent, but he is very new to anything dealing with authorities. It took the both of us a long time to find any online form - they don't make it easy! The questions are not really taylored to school leavers either. There is no phone number to ring for help, nor an email address. They are obviously making the whole process as hard and coplicated as they possibly can. I am half expecting them to come back with 'you filled in the wrong form' or something similar.

What do people do who don't have internet access?

Grrrrrr

It is tricky if you dont have internet access and it is going to become even more of a problem when Universal Credits come into play as this will all need to be done online, with all paperwork to hand.

We have a page with a link on for applying for JSA online! How did it go? Have a look here for telephone numbers where you can get further help if it is still needed.

His interview is on Wednesday. It was a nightmare. I don't want to show off, but I reckon we are above average intelligent - we struggled immensely with the silly form. What do 'normal' people do and what on earth do people do who are a bit slow (and I don't mean people with learning disabilities)???

Thank you for the phone numbers Anna!

I agree about the forms being complicated, Hopeful. Some people also find form-filling really scary. The online thing has been going on a while and whilst they have PCs at most job centres, there was always a massive queue to get on them when I have been in there.
