Hi smallsprite. What age is your child/children? Can you possibly take some leave, while you try and sort something out with regard to childcare?

hi smallsprite

When you make your claim you will then have your jobseekers interview and will be asked to complete a statement about why you left. The statement is then passed to a decision maker and they will decide whether the reason you left work is a good reason to then get jobseeekers. If your child/children are under 7 then you can claim Income Support.

As hazeleyes asks though, could you take leave while you sort things out? Do you think you can sort things out with your husband?

Hoping you have a sympathetic employer.

Hi mamaoftwo, would that not be a good enough reason though to quit a job, if there was no childcare at all?

I can see me firing lots of questions your way come September when I'm switched to JS, hehe. Stay tuned lol xx

Hi hazeleyes

Yes to me that is a totally good enough reason. It always has to go the decision makers though and they have the final say.  It would be hard for an advisor doing the new claims interview to say definitely that smallsprite would be entitled to jsa (just in case for some odd reason the decision maker declined the claim), however the reason that she has to give up work is a perfectly good enough reason. (hope that makes sense).

I'll stay tuned hazeleyes :) xx

Hello smallsprite

First ask for a few days compassionate leave, unpaid if need be.

Secondly you need to decide pretty quickly whether you are going to stay in your job and if so what new childcare you will have to set up.

Finally if you have a child under the age of seven you are presently entitled to claim Income Support. For people with older children, they would receive Job Seeker's Allowance if they received benefits and there seem to be no hard and fast rules abiout whether you can leave a job and still get benefits...it is at the discretion of the Job Centre. Mama of two gives the common sense view (above)

Thanks for all yr thoughts. My little girl is nearly two years old. My work  wont give me time off because i am already on a warning for bad health/being off sick too much. Have managed to get the ex to have our princess for tuesday so that gives me three days to sort something out now instead of one. But does look like I will have to give up my job as there is no way they will change my hours and finishing at 9.15pm when my little one goes to bed at 7pm just wont work with childcare. xxxx

Hi smallsprite. I know you say you are already on a warning, but that is for bad health/being off sick, this is totally different situation. Wouldn't your boss look at it like that too? A quiet word in his/her ear wouldn't hurt anyway would it, and you never know. They might have sympathy for you, and grant some time off. xx
