Hello all,

My name is Anna, I am a final year clinical psychology student at the University of Oxford. I am conducting an internet based research study investigating posttraumatic growth in women who have experienced domestic violence within an intimate-partner relationship and subsequently left the relationship.

Here is a link to the study:

The study/survey takes about 25 minutes to complete and there is the option to enter a prize draw to win a £50 Amazon voucher.

88 women have already taken part in the study....we are hoping to hear from 62 more before Christmas.

Intimate-partner violence is a pertinent issue affecting women (and men) around the globe. The majority of research has almost exclusively focused on the immediate to medium term, negative consequences associated with intimate-partner violence.

Few studies have looked at women’s psychological wellbeing after leaving a violent relationship or considered the full potential range of trauma sequelae. Over the last decade, an emerging body of literature suggests that after a traumatic event people can experience potential positive psychological changes, such as increased personal strength, appreciation of life, spirituality and closer relationships with others. At the present time relatively little is known about psychological growth in female survivors of intimate-partner violence.

The present study aims investigate the longer term well-being of female survivors who have left violent intimate-partner relationships. It intends to explore the influence of feelings of shame and ways of coping on the development of growth after experiencing intimate-partner violence.

It is hoped that by studying the concept of growth in female survivors knowledge will be gained that can help promote recovery in those whose lives have been affected by such experiences.

We are trying to reach as many women as possible. Thank you for your time.

Very interesting thank you for that!

I just want to re-iterate something that you said to our other users, as I wholeheartedly believe this:

'after a traumatic event people can experience potential positive psychological changes, such as increased personal strength, appreciation of life, spirituality and closer relationships with others'
