Hello,
I'm a London based female photographer interested in working with single parents (any gender) on a photographic project.
I'm interested in documenting the contemporary family unit and its many shapes.
The term 'family' no longer means mum, dad and 2.5 children - family can be a single parent and their child(ren); parents can be gay or lesbian, from different ethnic and religious backgrounds; a family can consist of a carer looking after a relative, parents who've adopted, or even a group of good friends... the definition is looser and yet more meaningful than ever before. Especially in a big city like London.
My aim is to document a few of the many constructs that today qualify as a family unit (perhaps not legally but certainly emotionally and practically).
As part of this, I'm interested in meeting and talking to single parents who may be interested in participating in the project. A photography led project of portraits and still life, I hope to offer an opportunity for participants to tell their side of the story - happy or sad or both - about why this is what they call family.
As an editorial photographer, I'm experienced in working with people including 0-5 year olds and the elderly. I hold a current CRB check and will be able to provide references on request from previous clients.
As this is a personal and self-funded project, I'm in the first place looking for people in London.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Best Regards,

Hi emliben, I hope that you get a good response, I also hope that maybe we can put some of your pics and stories on One Space?
We created a presentation with a photographer a few years ago.
Have a look at 20 single parents - 20 thoughts and let us know what you think!
