There's a lot of doom and gloom around in the news and I know some of us have got a deal of it in our own lives at the moment  so this is a thread you can come to when you need a bit of positivity to refresh you! I will be adding to it regularly and I hope everyone else will too. Please keep this thread to positive things, whether a quotation you like, something great your child did or said, or something that has made you laugh.
I will kick off today by saying:
"Even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it" (Jacques Prevert...had to be careful of the spelling there  )
This is my favourite quote, one of them at least anyway..
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it.
"George Bernard Shaw"
And this I can relate to :)
It's better to have loved and lost than live with the phsyco for the rest of your life!!
When my eldest was a toddler it was a rainy morning. I said ugh, it's a horrid day. He said...
It's a lovely day mummy, it's only raining!
Aww some great ones here!!!
One from Martin Luther King:
"Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree" :D
Eleanor Roosevelt now:
"No-one can make you feel inferior without your consent"
'When you're going through hell, just keep on going' - Winston Churchill - I assume this is because when u come out the other side things will be better - well it makes me feel better anyway - dont know how long this hell is gonna last but every day is step nearer to the end!!
Hear, hear, mousie!
Wow. That's quite a statement.
We gain strength, courage and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face.....we must do that which we think we cannot.
Eleanor Roosevelt
I have this at my desk, it is very empowering!
I love that! :D
here's one of my very favourites:
"Happiness does not depend on outward things, but on the way we see them" (Leo Tolstoy)
We gain strength, courage and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face.....we must do that which we think we cannot.
Eleanor Roosevelt
I have this at my desk, it is very empowering!
Wow.
That is a good one.
Mind you, I'm thinking that with them all.
So am I, this is a lovely thread and I am hoping that as it builds up, it becomes a resource so that members can visit it when they need some inspiration or encouragement. :D
Our wisdom comes from our experience and our experience comes from our foolishness
That quote comes from Sacha Guitry, whom I believe was a French film director. The reason I like it is that it tells me that however many mistakes I make, if I learn from them then eventually I will grow wiser 8-)
if I learn from them then eventually I will grow wiser
IF being the operative word!!
Here is another of my all time favourites! It helps me anyway!
“You can't keep blaming yourself. Just blame yourself once then move on.”
Homer Simpson
That's great, Anna
Go Homer!!
What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us
That one is by Ralph Waldo Emerson and I think it is very appropriate for all of us on this board, who have been through/are going through some very stressful and unexpected experiences. It is great to think of our inner resources! :)
"It is better to help people than garden gnomes"
from "Le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain"
ifyouseeher,
I am giggling over that one.
Thanks
sy
I think I should start a support group for garden gnomes here! I could call it DAGG (Discrimination against Garden Gnomes) and hold an annual convention at the bottom of my garden. Guest speaker to be Big Ears from the Noddy books
I love it, Ifyou see her!!!!!
It's my favourite film and whenever I hear that line (well, read it, it's subtitled =D ) it always makes me smile. I'm glad it's made others smile too. I highly recommend watching the film if you havent already though as it's terribly uplifting.
if you havent already though as it's terribly uplifting.
It is : )
"When you take charge of your life, there is no longer need to ask permission of other people or society at large. When you ask permission, you give someone veto power over your life."
-- Geoffrey F. Abert
very, very true!!!!! :D
I have just written this quote recently in another post, but I love it so will share, for my positive thought for the day:
It's better to have loved and lost than live with the phsyco for the rest of your life!!
Sorry went a bit overboard with the flashiness!!
Just wana thank you for writing this it actually made me laugh out loud for a second felt really good cheers xxx
I think that's the best one we have had so far....glad you had a giggle, zane
Hooray! I'm glad it made you laugh too! When I first saw it, it reminded me that I had loved and lost (a lucky escape mind you!) even though other people just thought I was well out of it.
I have it as a fridge magnet in my kitchen now!!
I am just reviving this thread, for people who have joined more recently. Any thoughts? :)
Good idea to revive this, especially with these dark evenings drawing in. My son has been quite negative in his approach recently and so my daughter and I have started replying with "Positivity not Negativity". I am sure I can think of a better thought/quote so will revist this later.
C-L
One of my favourites was giving to me by my mum, it is:
"Be as a bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her, still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings"........
Lovely ChaCha, we must remember to use our wings though!!
love that ChaCha
