my mother in law is in her 80's and was taken to hospital. she is now in a social housing nursing home. we are worried about her money in her post office account and would like to have power of attorney but have no idea about it and what to do and what is involved. is there other support we can get

The people at the nursing home will have some experience of these things and you could ask the Matron/Manager.Ultimately you will probably need to do this through a solicitor, find one by clicking here, and ticking the Mental Health box for the type of law.
Depending on what her diagnosis is, you could search for support groups for that condition and get more online information?
