Hi Everyone,

Thanks for having me.

I am a single mother to my just turned three year old son. It's time to take the leap to return to work and I am currently looking at childcare options. However, after two visits to the department of work and pensions at the job centre I am still non the wiser as to what I am entitiled to. I live in Greater London and its going to cost approx. £975 a month for childcare. What I want to know is whether I am able to get any help with costs, via working tax credits. I've been offered a job but I have not accepted yet as I need to know if I can afford to child care. My salary will be in the region of £23000 p/a, working 37.5 hrs per week. Can anyone advise on whether they think I might qualify for Working tax credits and how much it would be. Ive tried to online calculators but they're not very clear!

Thanks

Hi

I went to the job centre the other day and was told they pay a maximum of £175 a week for childcare for one child (if it is 70% or less than the total) but I don't know if it is different in your area.  Hopefully you have spoken to the expert now anyway.
