With the tsunami of December 2004, my children were told that the tsunami were sent as the people were naughty people.
I was told it was never said, yet my children were far too young to have made that up. They came home hysterical, as so many things had been told to them that awful weekend.
Youngest was so upset this morning watching the news. I hope they don't recall what was said to them six years ago, and that the way their questions were answered stops them thinking back.
All those poor, poor people.
Sadly, it was. They would also be punished by having bible passages read to them.
The school was absolutely superb that time (and often were), as they were able to give lessons about plate tectonics and climate. It also meant I wasn't seen by the children as being in conflict with The Git.
We have the news channel on here, and are watching the reports in absolute horror.
Those poor, poor people. Seeing that coming...
Oh sparklinglime that must have been awful for you and for your children, mine were very upset with the 2004 Tsunami.
This one is different somewhat as we have seen it almost live, I cant stop watching it and as you thinking how terrible it must have been for all the poor people who had no warning of this coming xxx
The BBC has such good information about the plates. Its good being able to talk things through sort of factually with them.
Obama on now...
Yes, I have just been watching about the shelter boxes in Cornwall, how wonderful are they xxx
Thye are saying it has reached Santa Cruz and has damaged a lot of boats in the harbour
Just looking at the Red Cross site to see if I can donate, but Japan not on there as yet.
Was watching Santa Cruz - have the BBC news channel going - do you?
I have it online and yes the BBC although I do switch to others such as CNN as well.
The scene in the office when the monitors start falling down behind that girl...
I know, they are now sayng another earthquake has hit central Japan 6.6 but they are not sure if its an aftershock.
I almost feel guilty watching
I know what you mean but its kind of hypnotic isnt it

Thank you tiredmum. I did make a donationt to the shelterbox fund on Friday, but will give a bit more to this one on Tuesday.
Horrific watching it.
Just been looking at these pics and how did anyone survive at all?
Who told them that, sparkling, was it their dad?
I suppose it is hard to "reason out" why these things happen in the world and telling them that might have been an attempt to reassure them that the same would not happen to them. Far better, though, to explain it in terms of climate; even a young child can understand that.
My heart goes out to all the poor people and their families who have been affected by this massive disaster, which seems to get worse as each news report comes in.
