Im taking my son on holiday and have just realised hes not on holiday from school. I got my weeks mixed up so he is going to miss a full week.
I dont know what to tell the school - its is closed at the moment and you are ment to write and ask permission from the school but we will be away when it reopens.
He is in yr 10 and i know they school wont accept it.
HELP
HM x
Hi HM
I used to take my lot out of school when they were in primary school.
My lot had GCSE exams in year 10 as well as in year 11. They're in the middle of these at the moment - just in case your son is due to sit these next week...
Hello happy mamma
I think I would be inclined to do what little angel suggests
Absolute pet hate - parents taking their children on holiday during term time!
However, in your case, if you really didn't realise, I'd go with little angel, too. I would try ringing the school - there usually is someone in secondary schools even during holidays - and ask what is being covered during the time away...
Good luck! :-)
Personally for me, I will continue to take holidays during school time because it is the only time I can afford and I know lots of parents are in similar situation. My daughters school have always agreed them, but I tend to book before I ask so would be going even if they didnt. I dont really see the harm in them missing a week, family time is just as improtant as education and not all education comes from within a classroom.
I do hope they dont give you a hard time Happy Mamma.
My own view is that if holiday companies did not hike up their prices so alarmingly in school holidays then far less parents would want to take their children out of school. Also we have to bear in mind that not all parents can get time off work in the school holidays, Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with children being pulled out of school willy-nilly but there are often very good reasons behind it.
A local primary school hereabouts has a fab strategy: it has all its Inset days in the week after summer half term so children get two weeks off for half term and families tend to go on holiday in the second week when the prices have gone down again after half term, so at least the school has done something positive to address what is a real issue
Thats fab of them to do that Louise Im sure that would help lots of families around here. I cant believe how long these holiday companies have been getting away with these price hikes, they're not a small difference either I saved £700 once by going during term time!
For me though I put family time above all else and my family (like millions of others) have periods of very high stress and taking a week out at the right time helps massively. For example, I am in court again end of aug so my next hol will be in sept as Aug will be a very stressful time and I know it impacts angel too. I would rather keep her off school for a week so we can have some R&R than send her to school under the weight of all the stress at home until it is 'convienient' for school to allow her time off. I have always planned holidays around whatever stressful events are coming up and luckily my daughter's school have always been cool with it (she does have 100% attendance though so I guess that helps - Angel would go in school with a broken leg!). It always makes me laugh at the airport though when I see a line of parents calling their kids school to say their children arent coming in as they are sick. I never lie, but WOULD still take her if school didnt authorise it, no point her being in school trying to learn if she is coming back to an unhappy home.
Hi All
Sorry for late reply turned all my data off on my phone so just got messages. School were fine. he never has time off which stood us in the good books).
I have pre filled my diary with future school holidays maked my sons in blue and step daughter in pink so i know whos off and whos
I have to say after the time we have had over the last few years it was worth every last minute. I wont be doing it next year as he will be yr 11 (his sister 25 said he can go there)
It was the break we needed and we are all much fresher and ready to carry on a deal with whatever life throws at us.
Price difference next yr is £600 more the week of half term - disgusting (getting the tent out.
HM
It is awful, isn't it...
Glad the school were fine
Hope you had a lovely time
Hope you had a terrific time. You all deserved it
Glad you had a lovely time. I agree about the price hike: disgraceful.
Hi happy mamma, we haven't heard from you for a while, what news from your neck of the woods?
Hi Louise
Had trouble with the exs 'new wife' she has now decided to continue to abuse my 18 yr old daughter.
My daughter has a 3 mth old baby she has never been a skinny and she has a bit of baby weight which i think after 3 months is not a bad thing - cant all be V Beckam. Anyway Saturday night my daughter had a rare night with friends (not out in pubs just at a friends house) A there were no taxis she and her boyfriend walked back its a 15 minute walk and like she said wont do her any harm.
As she was just about to turn into our road a taxi approached with someone hanging out of the window screaming 'you fat sl*g' - yes it was his wife.
She came in almost in tears picked up the phone and called the police. Last night I took her to make a statement and she has been warned AGAIN Thankfuly the police man was great and he asked this evil woman what sort of morals she had abusing her husbands 18yr old daughter?
He seems to think it will go quiet for a bit but she will start again soon and we just have to get back on to the polcie again - she knows she did it as she never passed our house on sunday and monday am when she did she had her dead down didnt do the usual dirty look or stick her fingers up (which we just laugh at)
So all fun fun fun x and breath
Hello happy mama
Yes, remember to breathe - very important! What a horrible situation for you and yours. Your ex's new partner sounds like a very unpleasant individual. Glad to hear that the police were so helpful.
How's your daughter now? And how are you finding life as a 'grandma'! Is he/she your first grandchild?
Mary
Hi Mary
Its amazing, I have 3 grandsons 6, 10 mths and 3 mths. My 3 daughters are great mums i self employed 1 on maternity leabe and they youngest job hunting (im at work on my lunch)
We have had so many probs with me ex its un real - i kicked him of for 5yr affair with my 'best' friend they still denie it but her daughter confirmed most of what we knew when she fell out with them (she is now back living there)
How about yourself x
HM
opps lunch over back to my desk back later x I LOVE THIS PLACE
eek! difficult one.
We tend to take all our holiday during school time or just before/after a a break so they only miss part of a week. Our schools have always been on with this but my sister is only in year 9.
I think the key is always in what you say when asking for permission by stressing it is the ONLY time you can have a holiday, but as you are unable to ask for permission Im just not sure. I think you should try and ring them, although children are off doesnt mean teachers arent there. If that is unsuccessful I would send a very long and apologetic email to the school advising of the situation and explaining just how IMPOSSIBLE it would have been to have gotten out of this holiday and just see what happens. good luck x
