Hi Ladies
This was taken from a website posting. IDS talking about Universal Credit and the redefining of the poverty assessment criteria as announced to today.
It looks like the minimum hours a Lone Parent will have to work under the new rules of UC will be 24 up from the current 16. Not an issue if you can find a job that gives you/increase your hours to 24 but in the current climate nie on imposssible!
Taken from Bandits of the Welfare to Work site..
'He will add: “Our latest analysis suggests that universal credit will ensure the vast majority of children will be lifted out of poverty if at least one parent works 35 hours a week at the minimum wage — or 24 hours if they are a lone parent.'
I damn well hope so Louise, but as we all know with this government they move the goal posts all of the time.
IDS is the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen. I'm surprised a thunderbolt hasn't struck when he enters church. Catholic values my foot. antichrist more like.
Hi again Helly13
I acknowledge your very strong views about this man and what he is proposing. I am sure that it has unsettled many people, whether lone parents, people with disabilities or anyone looking for work.
For parents reading who may be panicking a bit, I just want to say that the Universal Credit is planned to be phased in for new claimants from October 2013 and existing claimants will be transferred over the following three years. The Government's original idea was that it needs to be financially viable for people to work rather than not work. However, when they looked at the figures it seemed that in order to lift children out of poverty, a lone parent would need to work 24 hours a week and a couple 35 hours a week between them...this has not yet translated into a policy as the whole thing is very much at the planning stage...we need to watch to see what happens next.
This is very much in the theoretical stage at the moment and there in no indication that a lone parent will HAVE to work that amount to get the new Universal Credit
