Hi,

Still in the middle of 2 weeks of benefit hell, I thought it might be worth telling you about something I have been thrown into the middle of. When I got my job, I was given the 4 week run on for housing benefit and council tax benefit. When my job finished before this 4 week period was up, they reclaimed everything back. I am now being to repay the overpayments that have accrued because of this. This has also caused my landlord to ask for a payment to be made towards my rent! Its been 14 days since I made my claim, and no payment has been made, nor have I got any letter from DWP. I was told to ring back in the morning if no payment has been made, and the benefits contact centre will send an email stating that I need a same day payment.

My son is due to go into hospital in the next 2 wks, nothing major, but its all stressing me out to the max! Can't sleep, having panick attacks, and the jobhunting since my job ended has been naff...if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all lol!

Hi there,

This is going back about 3 years, but: I had a letter from Tax Credits saying they'd overpaid me and I had to pay £ 2000 back. So I sent them a letter back, outlining my circumstances (newly widowed, not working due to that, 3 children still dependent). I told them I would ask them to consider to waive this, or if that wasn't possible I could pay them £ 5 a month. They waived the whole lot.

Maybe this would work for you?

Good luck!

Hi Domali9830,

That all sounds very stressful. I think Hopeful's idea of contacting the DWP/Benefits agency and telling them your situation as it stands is a good one; often making yourself 'seen' as opposed to just a case number on a computer screen is useful in this sort of situation. Contacting our benefits and debt expert here might be of use to you too.

Hope you get things sorted out. Let us know how things turn out for you.

Hi, my benefit is halway sorted...i say halfway, as on friday the new claims ppl rang to say they were going to make a same day payment, but didn't. Now sign mon, so will ask them about that tom.

I do have another question tho, if you are on jsa, can you go on holiday in the uk? I was planning on taking the kids to the coast for the day, fri-mon. Am I allowed? If I get an interview for a job, and they ask about hols, does it go against you?

Thanks!

I believe you can have a UK holiday, provided you get permission from the Job Centre to do this. See this leaflet about getting "excused from the rules" (page 20)

Once you get an interview then you can tell a prospective employer about any planned hols in the future.

Hi, well thanks for the info on holidays, but mine are now dashed. I'm not going to get any JSA until the middle of august. Do have a question about my cv. As my last job was only a week, and ended in not a particularly good way, do I put it on my cv? I just put an application in, and didn't include it, but now I'm thinking should I have? I cannot use the agency I worked for, as she said she would only be able to say the dates I worked and not how I worked. What do I do about this?

Hi Domali9803, personally I wouldn't add it to my CV, unless the job is particularly relevant to the post you are going for and you have a good couple of lines as to why it only lasted a week.
