I saw this on breakfast TV today; it is launched by Age Uk and is to encourage us to help the older folk in our community. I know that many of you already help neighbours, I just like spinning it and each number gives a good suggestion, from giving someone a hug, to  doing an errand for them. The sound is a bit annoying, though, so you might want to turn off the speakers, lol

I think this is a good idea Louise, helping and checking on neighbours. As you know I do lots for my neighbours, and sometimes for the elderly one next door to them. I don't think it takes much, if you are able of course just to give a friendly knock, to make sure everything is ok, and if they should need anything.

I remember age 11, my Dad told me to go the shop for an elderly neighbour for potatoes. I refused point blank as I was playing at the time. He put me outside the front door, and wouldn't let me in, until I'd done the shopping. Of course, in the end I did!!

I know what a good neighbour you are, alisoncam, and now I know where you get it from!

I could imagine C enjoying spinning the wheel as well!

I remember last year when it was snowing the radio dj asked people to visit their elderly neighbours and offer to do their shopping.  That morning I saw one of our local elderly folk trying to inch her way down the slope opposite, I went out to her and offered to run her errand for her.

She was going to the shop to buy 2 potatoes and a banana Smile

I went to the shops then knocked on her door, I then spent an hour chatting with her, we had tea and scones, she is 94years old, never had children, so no living family. I felt really pleased that I had made the effort Innocent

Anyway I popped round the next day and asked if she needed anything and she absolutely didn't know who I was and no she didn't need anything. I have since seen her a few times and waved and said 'Hi Dolly', but she always looks like I am going to mug her! Poor thing, still glad I helped when I could though!

Perhaps we should have a good deeds thread!

Had to giggle at your post Anna. My Nan was like your neighbour, bless her. I would sit with her for hours, on leaving, always told her to lock the door behind me. I would stand outside until I heard the lock, then could hear her say, 'thankgod she's gone, no idea who she was'. Hehehehe.
