Hi my name is Caroline,

I am a career coach who specialises in working with single parents. I am available to answer any questions that single parents have about going back to work or planning a career. This may also involve training, volunteering or self employment.

I can also give support around issues such as work life balance and how to combine parenting with work. Also other practical matters, such as childcare and how to work and look after your family.

So I would like to get some advice about my working situtation...

I am a single parent to a 4 and a half year old boy ( already in full time reception class). I am currently working in pharmacy as pharmacy assistant, with opportunity to climb up the carer ladder!

Zero Hours Contracts - Some Good News

The Government have announced that jobseekers refusing to apply for or to leave a zero hours contract will not be sanctioned.

The Minister for Employment Esther McVey says "Jobseekers are not required to apply for zero-hours vacancies and they will not be sanctioned as a result of not applying" (2nd April). She also states that people will also not be penalised if they leave such a job"

Work and Non Drivers

This is more a question about if there's a cheap way or funding available to put towards driving lessons, as I feel I have had to miss out on applying for several part time job opportunities as I don't drive yet.

I can work part time with out a car, but my locality is quite restricted to two places, as is the childcare that I can use.

Any ideas or suggestions, or advice would be very welcome, thank you muchly ^_^ xXx

i am 49 - 30 yr work history up to management in Health & Social Care but no real qualifications - haven't needed them so far - got jobs on my own merit.

Had a late baby last year at 49 and suffered 3 redundancies since 2008 so decided to skill up and endorse my knowledge and skills with a degree.

I am a mum of one. Who is struggling to pay nursery fees. I am currently receiving an LSF fund which cover 3/4 of the nursery fees however I am on benefits and getting into debt to pay fees i need to pay. Is their any grants which can help?

Just wondering whether anyone can help?

Im really struggling at the minute, and trying to look for a part-time job, but wondering if I'll be any better off? Is there anywhere I can go for help, or anyone to ring, because I can't work out those calculators?

This is my situation:

single mum/full time student (3 days a week)

I get Income Support/Housing Allowance/Council Tax/Child Tax/Child Benefit/Maintenance

Not entitled to council housing so pay £600 rent per month

Hi I am new on this brill site very impressed just to enlighten anyone fleeing or suffering domestic violence who are claiming Job Seekers allowance you can ask for a DV 2 form from your adviser for the first month to relax your job searching you still have to search for work however they are supposed to be more relaxed about it.

hiya there i need some help i am working a part time and i am single mum at the moment i am working just sixteen hours a week but maximum i work up to 25.in that time my child is being looked after by a child minder .i work min 16 hrs so i get working tax credit plus all the rest of benefits to help with my rent and tax etc.the problem is i travel to work two hours every day and theres a same store in my town that i can be transfered to .the problem is i cant get guaranteed hours so it might be less than sixteen as all staff works part time .one week i might get it and another migght not bu
