A gorgeous thing my kid did today!

Hi all, we have had a request that this be added as a new topic.

Often our children do things that make us hold our head in our hands, but sometimes they do things that make our hearts sing.

As a single parent we may not have anyone to share that with, we have bored our friends for hours about how wonderful (or naughty!) our little cherubs are, and its very hard for others to truly share and understand the warmth and delight we feel, when our little one hiccups and then falls over, or our teenager curls up for a cuddle after 6 months of being obnoxious, or our child remembers to thank granny for a drink without any prompting from you. There are so many small joys and often they get swept away and forgotten about as life goes on. Share your stories here and know that we will be swooning too!! :D

I came back from work late yesterday completely shattered and in a foul mood. I went to lie on my bed to let the moment pass so that i could face the evening chores again: cooking our supper and washing everything up and get on with the ironing. My daughter called for me and i went downstairs still in a grump and annoyed for not being able to just have 5 minutes to myself. Well it's not too much to ask is it?? I growled at her 'what is it' and she said i've made you a cup of tea to make you feel better.... :D What can i say, all my annoyances were gone, i gave her a hug and got on with the evening domestics without a negative thought in mind. What a doll! She is a star :D

This wasn't today, but it should make you smile. I walked past an old dead tree trunk with my son - no branches, bit grim- & he pointed up at it asking "Mummy, when will you get to be as tall as that?" :D

This was before we moved out and before my plans to leave actually started.

My 16 year old daughter, then 15 told me that when she has left school, earning her own money and moving into her own place, that she was going to take me with her. *sniff*

It was the kick up the bum I needed to start planning our escape.

My 8 year old said the most amazing thing today - I had been getting frustrated with him all day due to various reasons and when we went out for a drive he was in the back seat and kept saying "i love you" - I asked him if he still loved me even after he had been told off by me all day and he replied that it didnt matter that I was shouting or screaming and that "the best thing in life is that mummy loves her child and child loves him mummy. thats all that matters" I was really touched by this and felt very proud of him.

Hi i think this is a great idea to share the joys of parenting such as the funny and sweet things are childen say and do.
I was totally amazed by by five year old resently. She had a school play and i promised her i would come. However i got delayed at work and was late for the start of it. I got there evenually and saw some of the play. Afterwards she came up to me and told me that her friend had been crying because she couldn't see her mummy in the audiance. I asked her if she was sad because she couldn't see me. She said 'no mummy you said you would be here and i knew you would'. Well!!!!!!!!!!!!! i found it really hard not to cry in front of her teacher and the other parents! as a reletily new single parent she has issues around if im gonna be there for her or if i will leave as well. I was totally stunned by her faith in me. Just goes to show that one happy parent can make her feel more surcure than two unhappy parents

Hi justme!!
My 2 1/2 yr old constantly amazes me. She can be so challenging but then will say or do the cutest thing and I just melt and can't believe I helped create something so wonderful. Of the many things she's delighted me with she recently hugged me when I told her I had a headache, kissed my forehead and said 'mummy better now'. So great to know someone cares!!!

A few years ago when my son was in reception, we was late for school. I was rushing him up the road as you do " come on we're late" and noticed he wasn't by myside so I turned around and saw him bending down on the grass....my temperature rose and I could feel the bark in my throat (the green monster was on her way)..."what are you doing!!", he walked up to me very casually with his hand behind his back and then pulled out a bunch of daises and said "picking you flowers mummy, I love you." I was like aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh...I love you too!!

One day I wasn't feeling to great and was lying down. He came into my room with a cup of (milky waterlike) tea. I was like thank you. As I drank it (as you do "thanks hun this is lovely" to save feelings), I realised it was cold, but put it down to the milk and told him to use less milk next time. The next day my lil cherub did it again, and again it was cold but less milky. So I asked why the tea was "cool"......he told me "Its because I didn't boil the kettle, I love you mom but I don't want to burn myself!" I was in bits laughing.

And finally...last week my son came home with a prefect badge.....and I was like aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh bless!!

My neighbour stopped me this morning to tell me what a lovely daughter i have.......!

There was a man walking down the road with obvious mental disabilities, he was making loud noises uncontrollably, a group of school girls (aged 13/14) were walking towards him copying his noises, taking the mickey out of him, my neighbour thought that this was really rude and disrespectful and was about to go over and have a go at them when she noticed my daughter amongst them ....... (my heart sank thinking my daughter had participated in this despicable behaviour) ...... my daughter was shouting at her friends saying "Shut up you lot, that's really out of order, he can't help it"

My face is smiling and my heart is warm, my girl has done me proud once again!! Thanks neighbour for bothering to tell me. :D

I'm so glad you had a hug.

My 13 year old has autistic tendancies/aspurgers, and his hugs have always been perfunctionary when told to... as you do.

The now retired Scout leaders were brilliant with him and he went on a couple of summer camps with his older sister (old hand, she's been on a couple before). The first year (2007) my oldest son went along with a family friend to help keep an eye on him - he will have wobblers, and if he panics, he will run off. Last year he went on summer camp with just his sister. They had a good week.

I was waiting at the Scout hut for them to come home. I'd opened the building and got everything ready, then heard the minibuses. My son flew into the hall and threw himself at me. My first hug. I'd waited 13 years and 7 months for that and I wept. It meant so much. His sister was there too, and it was truly a memorable day for me - and not just because they were home safe.

(sorry - I'm quite an emotional person!!)

Hahaha!!! What a difference a day makes. It's hard though, isn't it when it's not such a good day.

Hope your head's ok.

Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

I used to get covered in bruises with my 13 year old. Mainly when he was small and I'd pick him up to get somewhere - usually in the car! He's taller than me now though, but he's more co-operative.

Ohhh I hope my LO gets co operative. He can be aggresive, kicks and hits out. But like I say, though hugs are few and far between, when I get them it's just amazing ya know?
