I have broken my 17 year old's heart.  I seem to be good at doing that.  But some blunt talking about his ambition to be an RAF Pilot - which we have had before...

I need to spend more time with him - and the youngest.  He's sat in theliving room with me all afternoon, which has been nice.  Others are rallying round.

Awww Sparkling. It's heartbreaking for both of you. Him for having to hear it, and you for having to be the one to be brunt about it all. It is so sad for C. Hugs for you two. Glad the others are rallying though, you have a great broodKiss

I just feel wicked.  And doesn't mean it will be accepted.  The way things have been since before Christmas here, priorities need to be changed...

Hi everyone, happy Monday again!

sparklinglime, is there any chance you can go with him to talk to the local RAF branch so your son could hear it from them? I don't mean it as a double whammy on him, but if he finds it difficult to cope/accept then it may help? Are you going to be able to set more time to spend with your youngest two? What priorities would you like to see changed?

hazeleyes, another week off?! I am so happy for you! (Well it is probably envy actually, but how fab!) Your evening sounded good drink and chat with friends and the children playing well! I hope that you have both recovered, what are your plans for this week?

Hi Hopeful, how are things going? Did you get some washing done? Did you manage to get the uniform? What is happening with your washing machine? Did you ring the supermarket about your bag of pasta? How is your mum doing? You really do have an awful lot going on, I hope that your friends are rallying around at this time Smile

Looby, I bet it was divine when your son saw you at your FiL's party! How lovely! How is he today, is he still at your side for every minute, or has he relaxed into being back at home?

pq - high five! You sorted the Xbox live account out! Did you have a moment of glowing pride in yourself? I would have done! Wink It is great to read that you feel much more in control over the girls previous behaviour. Good for you! I hope it feels as good to be in work as you thought it would?!

kiera, I hope your weekend went well and your boys had a good one and your daughter is still nappy free :)

I had a lovely weekend, went for a 3 hour mountain bike ride with a couple of friends, thought it was going to be hell, but it was actually really invigorating, I rode my daughters bike, which is pretty old now and heavy and I have sore haunches, but I am thinking I might have found myself a new hobby!

No sun here today and still chilly, but can't really complain as we had sun and blue sky for at least a week last week!

Good afternoon all. Oooh Anna, you're so good even getting on a bike. Blimey, I wouldn't even remember where the pedals are heh. So a new hobby (dare I say another sweaty oneTongue Out)

So, another week off, it is great yes. Felt rather guilty this morning, as neighbour rang. She and hubby are thinking they've upset me, as they've not seen hide nor hair of me. So, C and I will pay a visit this afternoon. Should be shopping, but that can wait until tomorrow (everything seems to wait until tomorrow when I'm on holiday!)

Hope you're all having a good day. Sparkling, how is C now? Hope you're all doing okay.

Is Louise having a posh coffee???

Anna, why on earth would I want to ring the supermarket about my bag of pasta? I left it hanging on the trolley outside - somebody would have taken it. My own fault for being so stupid. :P Washing has been distributed amongst friends. New washing machine coming Thursday - No2 son is lending me his savings and my mum will pay for it as soon as she's out of her respite home. Got uniform from friend yesterday (got very lost trying to find her house, as she's just moved, but it's all an adventure).

Collected essay today - 70 % Yay! :-)

Wishing everybody a good day!

Nice one hopeful, you must be very pleased with yourself Smile.

Well I think I spoke too soon as the grumpy, antagonistic A is back Frown. She's been getting more irritable over the weekend and tonight has been shouting, disrespectful, slamming doors and sulky. Maybe it is hormonal?

It was lovely to be back at work, although there have been a few problems as there is only me so when I'm not there things don't get done. I think its a good thing as I hope it makes them realise how much I do.

I find the more I do where I am the more they expect?

I was watching Freaky Friday the other day, and they took the girl's door off - not sure if she was slamming it though...  If my lot did slam doors I think I'd quite enjoy doing that Smile

There's a lot going on with 17 year old here at the moment.  Many, many steps backwards.  No shouting or aggression, but lot of silences, stomping and snappiness with replies.  He has started to go for long walks, which means we are back out looking for him.

I think one sarcastic comment at work, and plan B will be put into play.  I need to speak to my colleague though.  I don't want to spring any surprises on her.

I can't quite believe that Maggie Thatcher is having a state funeral.  I can understand with the Queen Mother and Even the Princess of Wales, but Maggie?  Did Harold Wilson or Ted Heath have a state funeral?  I know she was the first woman prime minister and all that, but surprised that in these days of austerity that Cameron hasn't said no...

Good morning all

Yes Hazeleyes, you got me bang to rights, it was a posh coffee, mind you that was in between all the other things, such as lift for friend to the garage for car service (and back again later) and I had a hair appointment and a chiropodist one and had to go to the chemist and the butcher, so a posh coffee was a very much needed interlude.

How is everyone today? PQ I was wondering if you could keep a secret chart of A's moods....at least if they are cyclical you can Be Prepared. Glad you were Ok at work, even if it was a bit quiet!

Hopeful what a fab mark for your essay, that is an A, I believe? You will be delighted to get the new washer installed.

Sparkling, it is very sad for 17 year old and hard for you. You can only do what you can do. I know he has extra needs but it reminded me of the way I have felt about both my boys, all I can describe it as is a "sad inertia" in other words a sort of realisation and acceptance that there are some things we CAN'T solve for them and that makes me feel a sort of pity and also a sort of guilt. Sorry if you think I am talking a load of bananas but it is a feeling I have noticed very strongly as they have reached young adulthood. You are very patient with work, by the way!

Looby yes please to the crotcheted shawl. Glad you have J back, it is amazing how much we can miss them isn't it?

Hazeleyes what plans today? Is it any milder today, so you can get out somewhere? I was absolutely frozen yesterday doing all those errands.

Anna Tour de France next for you? You are doing lots of different activities lately; I think that is fab.

I have three clients today so a full book at the counselling place

Morning all, and with it comes the rain!! Saw neighbour yesterday, and I came home and cried. I'm 100% sure she has what my Mum had, and it's heartbreaking to see her with the breathing difficulty etc. She has just finished antibiotics and steroids, and looks awful. She wouldn't thank me for interfering, like getting a Doctor out, I did tell her to see someone today, but she insists she's fine (no, she's not) Feet and ankles very swollen, and I did make her put them up. So very sad.

Going shopping in a moment, if C moves himself that is!

Glad everyone is okay. Sorry A is playing up pq, hormonal does spring to mind doesn't it? Heartbreaking for you Sparkling seeing your 17 year old like that, poor thing. Your day yesterday was busy Louise, so a posh coffee was indeed needed.

Hi everyone! Yes the weather has gone decidedly grey here too. Bring on the blue sky, I don't mind the cold, as long as I am wearing the right clothes! The blue sky lifts my spirit hugely!

Has anyone noticed on the bottom of our homepage that we now have our Tweets showing?! As you can see they are occasionally inspirational, sometimes fun, often single parent related news and other times giving you tips on activities for you and your child's day ahead! Let us know what you think, would you get them to your mobile?

hazeleyes, I can't imagine how upsetting it is seeing your neighbour suffer as your mum did and not listening to your well meaning advice to get the doctor, well done for looking out for her and getting her feet up. If she gets worse, will you call the doctor do you think? (I loved the cycling - sweatiness does seem to be a bit of a current trend for me doesn't it!!)

sparklinglime, I am sorry to hear that your 17yr old is finding things difficult at the moment, I guess he is needing some inspiration for the future perhaps?

PQ I love the idea of you keeping a Mood Diary for A, it might be very insightful. I was wondering if its just that they like being with you over the hols and you are going back to work and it is unsettling for her again?

Hi Hopeful - huge congratulations on your 70% good for you, very well deserved may I say! I mentioned that you call the supermarket, because there are some decent people in the world and also if the trolley pushers got there first they would have handed it in. I would have called straight away, so I thought you might have done too!

I hope you have had a good day Louise with your clients, quite a busy one for you!

I am now going to be off for a week, back next Tuesday, I am very excited, my daughter is abroad doing a work experience programme and I haven't seen her for 6 weeks and tomorrow lunchtime we will be together again for 5 days until I leave her again for another 6 weeks.Surprised I am so excited to see her! Rudimentary Mary will be around as will Louise and Sally.

So everyone have a great week and be kind to yourselves, see you next week Cool

My neighbour's son has been there today, so I've not been worrying too much. On way to shops, I did see the other elderly neighbour, and she's told me that yes, she can understand me being upset, and how close we are, as this particular neighbour was Mum's best friend, but I can't take on the responsibility. She is completely right of course. I will text or ring her daily, and pop in again near the end of the week. She knows I'll be over like a shot if she needs me, day or night.

Hello everyone,

Another good day at work, girls are with their dad so have a bit of time to myself.

It must be a worry for you hazeleyes, its hard to watch people make dubious choices, but I suppose we have to remember they are grown ups and can do what they want. Being there for her must be a great comfort for your neighbour.

I feel sad for your son sparkling, I'm sure you can help him come to terms with it over time.

I'm sorry your neighbour's not doing so well hazeleyes. Very upsetting.

Enjoy the break pq.

Anna, have a wonderful time with your daughter.

And Louise, I'm glad you had a posh coffee.  I might be having a posh hot chocolate (don't do coffee) tomorrow evening...  My son and two other scouts are moving up to explorer's in a different town, so us grown ups going for a coffee instead of home.

With my son, I think I reach a level of acceptance and then he swings to another direction.  All of a sudden hornby is everything again, and no interest in airfix.  This cycle has been going on since he was very small.

Ho hum.

I have written a letter of resignation.  Short and sweet - and it's in my purse for when the time is right.  Today was an awful day with, it feels, like someone who is inspecting our work, is hell bent on getting us kicked off the contract.  If that happens, the company will close anyway.  So it will be given over when things are calm or when boss is horrid.  At least I'm prepared!!

Off to see MiL.  We're going to have a game of boggle, even though her house is in chaol with it being decorated.

Hello everyone

Anna, wishing you a lovely break and fab time with your daughter. Yes, Mary is with us for a while from tomorrow as when Anna comes back, I disappear for week myself.

Hazeleyes how horrid for you, not just to see your poor neighbour but also the memories it is bringing back. HUG for you. I am sure she is grateful that you are on hand in case of emergency. I wonder if her son persuaded her about the doctor? Do you have the son's phone number? Just thinking that would be a good idea in case anything happened.

PQ glad work has gone Ok, and that you have some peaceful time.

Sparkling, hope 17 year old soon settles down, I do feel for you. The resignation letter must feel like a comfort to have ready and waiting. Hope you have a good BOGGLE tonight. I have found a good website with loads of free word games so I have got stuck into that.

Hope everyone will have a good evening. I saw my clients and all went well. I am back there tomorrow for a meeting (deep joy)

I've not watched the village either.  I'm not really watching anything in particular at the moment - well maybe Doctor Who with daughter and youngest!

Boggle was good, although we sat and chatted mostly.  Lovely evening, and I will miss her so much when she does move - and I hope when the house is decorated and on the market that it does sell quickly, as she's keen to get on with things. I read her my resignation letter and she thinks it's spot on.  Seventeen year old seems brighter this evening, so wheter blunt talkign has worked, I'm not sure.  I know you're away Anna, but I am trying to see if someone RAF based can help talk to him too...

I hope everyone is ok.

Hello everyone and although it is grey, it is much milder, I have been shopping and returned with my VERY exciting stash of basmati rice, mushroom soup, panscrubs and the Radio Times Cool I don't know how I stand the excitement!

PQ I am watching Broadchurch too, we had a discussion a while ago about D Tennant being a bit spooky but I have to say I think he is playing a really good part. Love Scott and Bailey, especially their boss who always makes me giggle. I have to say, though, that The Village is one of the best things I have seen in a very long time.

Sparkling, glad you had a nice time with MiL. Also pleased to hear that your son is a bit more settled.

My youngest went to Leeds last night and stayed over with friends. He was hoping to meet up with eldest today but I have pointed out he is at work so it would have to be at lunchtime. I expect he has forgotten eldest has changed jobs and thinks he can just stroll into the shop where he used to work.

Just settling down to start the last essay, yay!

I have had my reply from the money experts, and - a fat lot of good that did. No answers to my questions at all. 'The way council tax benefit works has changed' Really? Has it? You don't say!?! 'Contact the CSA if your husband has stopped paying' Apart from me having regular contact with the CSA already anyway: are they going to give him a job??? Are they going to make him stay in the country for work???? 'Here is a link to budgeting advice' I am brilliant at budgeting, really I am. But I can't turn 100 in into 150 out.

The question I really asked after telling them what I was getting and what was going out was - Am I missing anything I should be claiming? That did not get answered. Grrrr.

Sorry for being moany, but their answer was so patronising and I feel really frustrated. What a waste of my time (and theirs - or maybe they didn't waste theirs and that is standard answers - they read 'Council Tax Benefit' and put a template sentence in...).

Yes it is the weekend and homework looms large. what is the update Hazeleyes? Sorry to hear about your neighbour but at least the doctor is now involved.

PQ your weekend sounds very welcome and some nice relaxing time for you. Isn't it weird how our perceptions of time vary? My friend texted me the other night and said she was ludicrously hungry and her tea was going to take another 20 mins to cook. I said if you only had 20 mins to complete the PAYE before your deadline, it would just whizz past and be too short, haha.

Sally hope you have a good weekend Laughing

I am here today and tomorrow then off for a few days. Some friends from London are renting a holiday cottage up here so I am visiting them on Monday then Tuesday Coventry (another friend) then staying in Oxfordshire hoping to see Stratford and Oxford and then another friend coming up from Hampshire......sounds like a Royal Tour..then a couple of days relaxing at home so am feeling excited. Pq, I'm sure it'll be lovely. Please make sure (though I'm sure you have) to let a friend know where you're going, all details of this man etc. Sorry if I'm sounding like your mum, but you hear all sorts of things, so better to be safe than sorryKiss

Completely forgot the when and then Louise, and went in gunblazing insteadEmbarassed I ranted, he sat, I ranted some more, and he sat some more. Anyhow, it's done now, and we're 'friends' again. Enjoy your evening with friends. I'm also doing pizza here.

Sparkling, have a lovely time with your friend. Hope C has a great night too. Can you leave the council tax until the end of the month? That's what I'm planning on doing. Cannot believe that for the ten months, I was paying £72, so now with the increasement, ten months for me will be £100, so it is now at twelve months, with payments of £84!!! Has gone up so much for me I think. I dunno though.

Absolutely pouring down here, yuk, yuk, yuk

Forgot to say, we have visitors in the loft. Me being me, won't go up there, so I need to ring the council on Monday. There is a charge now for dealing with the squirrels. Hopefully, no damage has been caused by these rotten pesks.

Morning,

Hazeleyes, my neighbour knows where I'm going and what time I should be home, but you're right about needing to keep safe, it is a worry. Really feeling nervous now.

We had squirrels in our roof when we moved in. I bought a humane trap but I never caught anything. Just going up there regularly got them out and then we got a roofer in to close the hole they made so they couldn't get back in. They didn't do any damage but they did move our loft insulation around and made a nest out of it!

Hello everyone, it feels much milder this morning, hurrah!

PQ enjoy yourself today with this chap. Good that you have got safety things in place but you are out in public so it should be fine. It's strange meeting someone in person when you have been emailing, I have done quite a lot of Internet dating in my time, some good, some not so good. My mistake was expecting too much in the first place, though, and once I stopped thinking that it was going to be love at first sight, I met some really interesting people. I also have three really good female friends that I met through the Internet, I am visiting two of them on my forthcoming trip! So ENJOY Laughing

Sparkling hope you had a nice evening. Did C enjoy himself as well? I met up with my friends in town and we had some food and a good laugh. How are you feeling about work now? Can you spread the council tax a bit differently, like Hazeleyes?

Hazeleyes, oh not the squirrels again....a friend of mine had one in her kitchen, having got in through the ceiling from a hole the next door neighbour had not had mended in their roof, so they had to persuade the neighbour to have the repair done before repairing their own damage. So you need to get on the case straightaway.

...Part 2

Also, Hazeleyes, using the same parenting technique every time (eg when then) is a clear signal to the child that you mean business as they will remember the last time and not think they can wheedle their way out of it, heh heh.

My youngest was home at the relatively early time of 5am. He must have behaved though, not to have been chucked out of the nightclub again.

Is everyone ready for the morning with homework done? My frind's son announced yesterday that he had a big project to do and had "forgotten" to tell his mum so it was Benny Hill music in their house!

Have a good day, everyone Smile

Enjoy today Pq. Shall be thinking of you.

You're so right Louise about the when and then method, and I do slip a lot of the time. Occassionally too, a friend has to remind me that C is only a child, and not an adult, as I do tend to talk to him as if he were older!

Shall ring the council tomorrow about the squirrels. They charge, I know, and I can't find out what the fee is, but shall do tomorrow. The racket in the kitchen last night was awful, sounded like they were burrowing their way through. C has named them, Marge, Bart and Homer!!! I also need to look into branch cutters, but with extensions. Do these even exist?? I cannot afford to get someone in to do it, as I'm looking at £400 or thereabouts. If the branches go, then hopefully the little sods will look elsewhere to go!

Louise, have a brilliant week. As always you'll be missed, but if you've gotta go, you've gotta goKiss
