Hi Sally W,
Yes, cranachan involves soft fruit, oatmeal, cream & whisky traditionally. My trifle was a Hugh F-W recipe, but as per usual he called for too much cream (yes, there is such a thing!) so my custard was a bit runny. Still tasted good though!
Glad P's performance went well - but really sorry to hear that the chicken pox have made another appearance
What is everyone up to this weekend? The sun is out here - so I'm off to enjoy it for a bit. See you all later!
Hello to all you lovely people
I have had a great little holiday and surprise surprise, came back to a tidyish house and the neighbour said they were no trouble. PHEW. Actually I felt better because eldest was there as well. He will be here for about another week. The weather was not bad, it only rained at convenient times such as when I was driving or in the B+B.
So I have been catching up with your news, have to take the car in for MOT in the morning so am popping in now.
Hazeleyes, decor report please! Are you sick of Barry yet? I bet C is excited for the hols.
Sparkling how long is the camp? I agree it seems weird just with J left at school. Both mine are now working! so that feels strange to me too.
PQ, what a kerfuffle about your daughter's performance, glad you will be able to see it on video.
LRH I have been chatting on your thread. Looby how are you? Hopeful, glad to have your news.
Anna, glad you had a good hol. Sally you have had a double visitation of chicken pox, WAAAH, and your poor daughter to have it twice. Mary it has been great to have you here so I hope we will see you again soon.
Hi Everyone,
Hope you have had a great weekend in the sunshine....at last it came.
I have had a lovely couple of days. I had friends visit yesterday whilst my girls were with their dad. We went out for lunch at a jamie oliver restaurant thats opened recently nearby, had a scrummy lunch with great company.
Today we've been to my mother ex-law for lunch, went to the park and played games, my girls have stayed there over night so I came home and enjoyed the sun in the garden.
Don't you just love it when 2 days feels like a whole week
Hi Louise,
Glad you had a good holiday and have come home finding everything intact!!
I have really enjoyed finding my way around & getting to know everyone. Thank you for having me!
Yesterday was eventful; our computer gave up the ghost, so I am currently making use of my Mum's. The pot of money put by for a new carpet for A's room will have to fund a new laptop, there are no two ways about it (she's in agreement, as she will no doubt need internet access for homework purposes come September!) Went for a picnic by the river today, which was lovely.
Look after yourselves, one & all. Thanks for sharing with me & I hope to 'chat' with you all again in the not too distant future x x
So glad you enjoyed the time away Louise.
rudimentary mary - hope to see you soon. Your posts have been brilliant, and it would be great if you do 'pop' in...
Shattered.
Seems the north-west is missing the summer as it remains under cloud cover... Oh well. At least we had a dry weekend.
You're shattered, sparkling? Awww, lie back and relax, I am sure that your house is totally and 100% peaceful and quiet.....NOT. How was camp?
PQ your weekend sounds fab, and very relaxing, great stuff
Just had a call from the garaage, car ready and is £88 including MOT fee and oil change so can't really complain seeing as it is 10 years old.
How is everyone this morning?
Hi all,
I have no internet at the moment (stupid providers), so just telling you all is well, am in placement and I'll be back asap. xxx
OK Hopeful thank you for letting us know, we would have been wondering if you were Ok, look forward to catching up when you get back on
How is everyone tonight?
Loving this summer weather, hope it continues.
Hope your all enjoying the great weather
Sparkling i hope your feeling more refreshed today?
Pq i hope you enjoyed your child free time, what did you do?
How has everyone else's weekend been?
My end P has had a horrid bout this time never seen chicken poxs that big before, poor thing has suffered something cronic, have been trying everything to help her have some relief, for future referrence guy's bathing in oatmeal is really good at helping to sooth the itching (put oats in some old tights, tie and swish around in water), also used a rubbing alcohol that she said relieved the itching as well, she is now over the worst bit and has been feeling better today.
Glad your back Louise and that everything at home remained in tact
Hi Sally,
Didn't do a lot, met with friends, did some gardening, generally had a relaxing time....being on my own is getting easier!!
Sorry to hear about P's second bout of chicken pox, its really miserable for them, H had chicken pox twice and the second time was a lot worse. I used aromatherapy oils and bathed her every 2 hours, it helped loads with the itching.
Hi Louise, welcome back, good price for the car eh?
Rudimentary Mary, it was a delight having you on board, look forward to seeing you here again soon. As sparklinglime says, your posts have been brilliant.
Sally, sorry to hear that poor P has been suffering, I hope that she is now on the mend.
pancake queen, when my daughter was younger I used to love it when she went and stayed somewhere spur of the moment, I always felt like it was a little gift to me! Glad you made the most of it!
Look forward to seeing you soon hopeful
sparklinglime, I hope that you are getting to enjoy the sunshine, while it is here. Hey, I brought some lime cordial the other day and sparkling water, yummy!
Hi hazeleyes, lrh and everyone else, happy sunny days to one and all x
We've had no sunshine. We're the northwest tip with the cloud over. The men were working on the north west side of the island, and it was raining there...
I hope every one else is having a taste of summer though.
Sorry to hear the sun hasn't made it to your part of the world sparkling. I must admit it has been glorious round my way, hopefully the sun will come out for you tomorrow.
Managed to get half an hour in the garden earlier so its looking less like an overgrown wilderness. Gardens are lovely to look at but they take a lot of work!!
How does everyone else cope with all the jobs that need to be done around the house, cutting the grass, decorating, fixing things etc.?
Hello everyone
Household jobs PQ....older children on a chores rota is my favourite! or exchange scheme such as babysitting in return for garden mowing. I had my ceiling painted by a friend in return for me helping him with his singing (he was in a musical theatre group but could not read music so I coached him for the audition)
Sparkling yes I saw that the sun didn't get to you, the forecast sounds better today though
Hazleyes, you are quiet, how are things?
Oh Sally your poor daughter, thanks for the oatmeal tip. I had chicken pox as an adult (for the second time) and was very poorly so can have every sympathy with her.
I went to my eldest's graduation yesterday, he was so nervous and his hat was too small, they had had to order hat sizes and so they had all "measured" their heads with headphone wire and then guessed how long the bit of wire was (good plan!) but he stayed intact. His grandad paid for his picture taking so we will wait for that to come through the post. He is moving into the new house on Thursday, so it will all go quiet then. Anyway after the graduation I took him out for a pizza, he got a bit reckless with the black pepper, the lid came off and there was black pepper everywhere, on the table, on the floor, in his shoes, in his bag with his suit in......Oh dear.
Hope everyone will have a good day today
Graduation day, Yay! I shall have one of those - I seem to have passed the wretched essay now (I've not been told this by anyone, it's just they've now offered me the swap to the degree and that means I must have passed).
Have come to the library - still no internet (seriously considering what they mean by 'think better!) to do a bit of catching up.
Daughter going off to Germany on Saturday - flying out with a friend and I'll pick them up in a few weeks after I've finished placement.
No 3 son wanting lots of money.
No2 son being very organised.
Home is chaos. What can I say!
Oh, we have fantastic sunshine and the last time I looked it was 27 C, but I am sure it's warmed up a bit since then.
Thinking of you all! xxx
Congratulations Hopeful!
PQ, best I don't get involved in the chores thing My lot can vary from brilliant to useless! I've got a friend to order a skip in though, so hopefully that will be here tomorrow or Friday...
Been dry here with a hint of sun. Quite happy with dry!
Congratulations hopeful
Louise, graduation day, you must have felt very proud. Love the story about the headphone wire, sort of theing my nephew would do! Nice that you will have some pictures to remember it all by.
Great news hopeful, what are you studying? Can't help you with the 'think better' comment, maybe its suggesting you think differently or out of the box??
A skip sounds like a great idea sparkling, I'm sure I could fill one very quickly.
Thanks everyone for the ideas about jobs round the house, like your suggestion Louise, although not sure what I have to offer!! My friend is coming round next month to do some plastering for me, but not sure I want to offer him what he's after... if you know what I mean
I've fininshed work until next wednesday. Going to have a staycation and do some things at home with the girls. Starting tomorrow with a trip to our local outdoor swimming pool.
Hope you've all had a good day
Already awake hoping the phone call comes to say the skip is coming today.
I actually think we may need another before the end of the summer holidays!
Ooh-er, sparkling is filling multiple skips and PQ is getting plastered!
And Hopeful is sneaking onto the degree course, well done you!!! Your house is chaos? Must be the school summer holidays.....Glad you have some sun though.
PQ hope you have some lovely days off, a swim sounds just the ticket.
Sparkling I think you COULD take control and order the troops around a bit, get that skip filled. When I was doing my bedroom I could not believe how much utter rubbish was in there. A friend of mine ran away from a violent relationship, waited till he was dead drunk and put the kids in the car and whatever could be fitted in the boot. Even when she came down here and was resettled, she still kept her possessions to a sensible level and I loved going to her house, and seeing that made me aspire to it. The other thing I think is that we keep some our possessions for other people. You know, like someone will buy us a vase or an ornament and we like it well enough and it goes on display (but given the choice we would not have it at all, haha) So I wish you luck with your skip.
I have my supervisor this afternoon, re my counselling work although all sorts of issues creep in, no doubt I will talk to her about eldest and how the house has changed since his arrival, and will change again when he leaves tonight.
Can't believe I forgot to switch the alarm off last night....looking forward to a nice lie in and got rudely awakened at 6.10am
BOOOOO! I prescribe a nap later.
Yay! I have the internet back!
Daughter's birthday today and she is very pleased. I had a friend make a giant cupcake (it's filled with marshmallow). :)
Lovely sunshine outside, so I won't stay long....
Can I change my Avatar? I've had my hair cut.....????
Hi Hopeful, glad you're conected again, happy birthday to your daughter.
Boooo indeed louise....a nap sounds like a splendid idea, the girls have just gone with their dad so off to the garden to dig out a deck chair
Hi all, can only be brief as I have to do a supermarket shop today, I still haven't been yet since holiday - nearly 2 weeks!
Hi Hopeful you can change your avatars hair - I did this once and no-one noticed, so will keep an eye out!! Have a look at this link on Avatars and see if you can work it.
(In short - Click to go to the Doppleme website, Sign in, change your avatar, then come back to the site and see if it looks different. We wait in anticipation!)
Happy birthday to your daughter
I hope others have a happy nap, happy swim, happy supervision, happy skip filling and happy plastering and a jolly good evening!
Had a great day. Took the girls to our out door swimming pool. they both invited a friend so whilst they all played I lay in the sun and read my book
Didn't manage a nap louise but did sit in my deckchair for an hour or so.
All in all been a very relaxing day.
Hope you've all had a good one....especially you lrh...did you enjoy your beer
Good morning and how are you all?
Sunshine here but pleasant, I was miserable yesterday in that humidity
Glad you got the Internet back, Hopeful. PQ that sounds lovely. What are you reading?
(Waves to everyone else)
Hi Louise, I'm reading The Family Way by Tony Parsons. Its light reading and ideal for sitting in the sun.
Oh, I have seen him interviewed on TV, he always looks an interesting chap. Glad you are enjoying it.
How is everyone this morning? Did you watch the Olympic ceremony?
Just seen daughter off to the airport. Hope they get there - with all the olympic traffic...
She's left a big mess in MY room!!!! I am quite cross about it and almost thought to stop her going. But that would be mean....
Hopefully I'll get lots done today, have started with kitchen and front room. Wish me luck!
Anna, I tried changing the Avatar, but I don't know if it's worked yet.... :-)
Ooh it should work straightaway, Hopeful. Your hair has gone curlier!
Did you have a good day and no pig dog? yes I can imagine how annoying it was to find that mess. One of the things that really winds me up about teens (and yet it is such a little thing) is the way they put EMPTY milk and juice cartons back in the fridge.
Hi all, long time no 'see'. Have been really busy, painting C's bedroom (which is the size of 2), putting up his wardrobe, as well of course as dismantling old one. Still more to do, but getting there slowly but surely. So much clutter, clothes, etc, had to put most of it on settees, behind them, and on living room floor, so couldn't even get to pc until last night.
Quick look through the posts. Welcome back Louise, glad you had a great holiday. Congrats to your eldest on graduation. Am sure you're missing him now he's moved out again.
mary, I do hope you look in on us from time to time, it's been great having you with us. We shall miss you.
Hello to everyone else. Hope you're all well, and enjoying the lovely weather. I've missed most of it, but it's been way too hot here, so not really complaining about not being able to sit in it, or do anything else for that matter. Mounds of ironing, (but at least I've kept up with the washing). Shall tackle that tomorrow, clean C's bedroom windows, then he's all set to move back in there. Anna, I did think of you, when I bodged up in a few places, hehe. (they are my bodges!)
Hi all,
Really enjoyed the olympic opening ceremony, had me blubbing at the end when the young athletes took the torches and lit the olympic flame....I'm going to be in bits throughout I'm sure
The weather is holding here, although a bit cooler but thats no bad thing.
Enjoying my days off work. Still got a few more as not back at work til wednesday. Got my friends boys over later for a sleep over , it always amazes me how different boys are to girls. Have them all day tomorrow too so will probably take them swimming.
Hope you're all having a good weekend. Are you following the olympics? I'm a bit overwhelemed with the choice...I could easily get hooked
Filled the skip. A few precious things have had to chuck due to water coming up through floor, bu there we go.
Ah, Louise, it's curlier because it's only about a third as long as it was. The hairdresser cut it off and it went 'ping!'. It's about chin length.
Hazeleyes, there is no 'too hot'!!! And did you want to do a bit of painting and decorating down here?
I've managed to get a clean and tidy front room and kitchen - and it's stayed that way for 24 hours now, so I think I know who the culprit is there... Will start work on the dining room soon.
So I am being good and not letting the inner pigdog win. :-)
Watching fencing now, but will have to find a proper schedule to find the sports I enjoy the most, like the diving and gymnastics...
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
Everyone has been busy-busy.
Well done sparkling, it is horrid when you have to let treasured things go, though.
Am enjoying the Olympics too, in slices. I thought the opening ceremony was superb. Went to a new church today, my friend has felt uncomfortable at the other one once or twice. It is quiet here without eldest but he is loving his new house. Youngest is strutting around in a High Viz jacket; he gave me his first ever board money on Friday, much to his horror. I said he could have it back but then would have to buy his own food and not use any of the house facilities. He laughed and said I know I am getting a bargain
Hi Hopeful, when there is so much to choose from its hard to know what to watch, I would watch it all if I could. My daughter and I got absorbed by the judo this morning, I too like the gymnastics and diving but am really looking forward to the athletics.
I love the weightlifting, especially the really little blokes that lift an enormous amount. WOO-HOO we got a medal in the cycling
Will talk with you all on Tuesday, am off tomorrow and Anna and Sally are here, guess what I am doing in the morning? P-O-S-H C-O-F-F-E-E........
Love going out for posh coffee. Have a lovely time louise.
I survived the night with my friends boys and the house is still intact! Going to take them all swimming later to try and tire them out
Hi all, the sun is still shining! I can't quite believe it!
Hazeleyes, we were wondering what you were up to, it sounds as though you have been very busy, good for you!
Loving your hair Hopeful, looking good
Have fun swimming pankcakequeen, will you be going in too? Lovely to have an outsdoor swimming pool so close by
sparklinglime, I hope your load is feeling lighter now the skip is getting fuller. As you know these things are only material, so painful as it can be, this time next year you hopefully will have forgotten all about them.
I hope everyone has a fab day xx
Morning and how is everyone? I am just about Olympic-ed out, what with the weightlifitng and the gymnastics, that was unbearably tense when they had the medal enquiry. Wet flannel over the eyes, methinks.
What is everyone up to today? I have my counselling client later and meeting some friends tonight.
Hi,
Its the last day of my annual leave so am going to spend some quiet time with my girls at home. They'll be going out with their dad later so I'll get some me time too.
How was your posh coffee louise?
Lovely as always, PQ, thank you. Always go to the same place, just round the corner from where I do my counselling. Hope you get to put your feet up later. My eldest texted me that there was a big screen in Leeds city centre and everyone went yesterday teatime to watch the Olympic coverage.
Can't believe my leave is nearly over and I'm back to work tomorrow....Boooo
Didn't get to put my feet up but used the time to plan our meals for the week ahead. I haven't been doing it much and my shopping bills have been really high. It really paid off as my tesco bill was the lowest its been for ages.
Can't say I'm olympiced out yet....I just love having all these different sports to watch...its great.
enjoy camp sparklinglime - we haven't spoken much - sorry
