Having a nice day off today. At the moment sitting with No2 son who is playing GTA (which has foul language, so we turn the sound down) - I have the laptop and the map for his game and am finding him the locations for stunt jumps in the car. So we have some time together.

No3 son likes it if I am in the room when he's on that game, too. Boys, huh?

The Conference was brain melting, lots of interesting information to take on board and networking with other services is always good.

Hopeful glad you had a good time with no2 son today, do you have plans for this evening?

Hello one and all

PQ we are looking forward to hearing all about your trip to Spain!

Sally well done re the conference, I am not good at these things, tend to nod off halfway through, bet you were tired after that. Hope you had a restful evening

Hopeful, I agree about boys and games, one of my sons' favourite things was to have me or their dad sit with them and "watch" them play. Sometimes, even though the teen isn't giving us much attention, it is one way they are prepared to relate to their parent. I sort of think of it like how I had to tolerate Thomas the (annoying theme tune) Tank Engine many years ago.

Yesterday I had a lie-in (!) then went for my final visit to The Evil Dentist, phew, and had three counselling clients. Two of my three are about to finish so I will have two new ones soon.

Today is a quiet day for me and there are several piles of paperwork lying around that need my attention. Going to put something in the slow cooker as my first job so that I won't have to worry about that later. The heating is fixed, which is good as the mornings are really chilly at the moment.

What's everyone up to today?

Morning,

I'm going to Spain without the girls to visit this chap I have started seeing. I am really looking forward to some time away, but my ususal pre-journey jitters have started so I'm feeling quite anxious at the moment. My parents are coming down to stay with the girls so they will be fine, but the last 2 times I have done this my ex has kicked off whilst I have been away, and with his unhelpful comments already this week I am convinced he is going to do something again!! My mum is more than capable of dealing with him but he tries very hard to drag me in. I don't go away often and I'm not going to let his behaviour stop me going, but its hard to not let it affect me and make me anxious.

Sally, I'm going to a conference tomorrow so I will probably come home from that feeling similar to how you did! Hope a good night sleep has helped.

My eldest also likes me watching her play sims, so I have been doing that a bit in the evenings with her, Its funny how that is enough to keep them happy and feel connected to you.

Hope all is well for you all

I'm glad your Mum is up to dealing with him pq. Does your ex know your going away?  The Git used to not have the children if he had a whiff of me going away, to try and stop me, so I always had a plan B - which was his Dad and Step-Mum havin the children.  Smile

I hope the evil dentist was ok Louise.

Colleague and I are getting to the 'we have had enough' point at work.   Not good.  Scouts tonight, and I'm hoping that I might have a night tomorrow which will be the first for a while...  We shall see.

It's been torrential showers here today.  Such a change from yesterday when daughter, the dog and I went up a mountain to watch a sunset.

Evening was some what relaxing, K was at a math challenge with the school that went on until quite late, his group came third, some incident on way home mean't that he had to take a longer way home, hence i had to wait up to let him in.

Today i was teaching and compiling information for a report i need to get done by the end of the week, eek.

Thats got to be a load of your mind pq knowing your mum can deal with your ex though i can understand your anxiousness about going away.  Whats the conference about?

Hope your work load changes soon sparkling.

Louise i hope your o.k after your dental appointment, what concoction came out of your slowcooker?

Hello lovely people

How is everyone today?

PQ your trip sounds lovely, hope you have a wonderful time. I know what you are saying re ex but the girls are having nice times with your parents and will be perfectly OK. let's face it, their dad has been less than enthusiastic about having them lately, so not reasonable to expect you to approach him and ask him to have them for the weekend. Please don't let his behaviour spoil things for you. Remember he knows you VERY well, knows how to upset you and make you anxious, and he may be trying to do just that!

Hope the conference goes well today.

Sparkling we had torrential rain too. How did Scouts go? It's your day off today, will you get to the gym and are you planning a night out tonight? Work sounds so difficult for you sometimes, thank heavens you have such a nice colleague.

Sally, K did well at his maths challenge, why does there always have to be an incident? My youngest is exactly the same, always some trouble or drama. Good luck with your report Laughing

Dentist was dour but dismissive, asked me how often I was using disclosing tablets (never mentioned before and not available from the dentist...go to the chemist, Louise, oh right), I don't have to go for three months now, HURRAY. Slow cooker meal was delish...cheap piece of lamb, diced, with swede, carrot and onion and I threw in some mushrooms and spinach for the last half hour, did us jacket potatoes with that. That's what's so ace about slow cookers, you can do all the veg at the same time and use cheaper meat as it is nice if cooked for ages.

Today I have some shopping errands (including disclosing tablets Cool) and meeting a friend later for a catch-up. I need to get into the counselling office at some stage; they have computerised the attendance records and want us to go on and complete records for all clients since the beginning of September, I would rather do that with everyone else milling around so might do it Saturday when they're closed.

Have a good day, everyone, look forward to your news.

Yes, Thursday, my day off.  I've just come home from work - there was a meeting there this morning with work that I do...  It was nice to put names to faces.  Nice to ignore the phone too Cool

I'm off tomorrow as I'm helping someone set up their PAYE.  I do some paperwork for her husband.

Still not sure if I'm off tonight or not.  I'm trying not to think about it, but can't help it Smile  I've not seen him for a couple of weeks due to a birth, a death and illness...  Just my luck if he ends up working until 8pm.

It's a lovely sunny day here after yesterday's torrential rain showers.  I have filled the car with diesel, so I may go out for a ride.  Either that or throw the dyson about...  I know which one I prefer.

Hey Louise, i thought those tablets were for getting children to clean their teeth properly, the lamb sounds great will have to give that one ago, hope you had a nice meeting with your friend.

sparkling i had to laugh, as that is something i do regularly be in work on my day off Surprised hope your plans for the evening go as you wish. Which one won the car ride or the dyson?

Thankfully there was no incident with K this time Louise, though he has in the past, i have heard all manner of excuses about being late before, this time the police had blocked off the bridge that crosses a motorway, the quicker way home, he had to take a longer route.

Have been given more time to do the report, Hurray, found out yesterday that i will have to do some firstaid training as i help with the children's activities at church, i'm a bit squeamish Embarassed

Good morning everyone

Sorry you did not get your night out, sparkling, it is sometimes hard to fit two busy schedules together, hope you can rearrange soon. I went out for some shopping too at teatime, although I like to buy the special offers I have to hide some of the food as otherwise The Gannet just eats it all straightaway. Nice for you to be away from the office today as well Laughing

Sally, glad K was OK. My boy had his single raucous night out of the week last night, horrid little box of chicken bones in the bin this morning, that's what I am squeamish about, chicken bones, eurgh. Hopefully your First Aid course will be fairly un-scary, the ones I have done have been CPR etc, of course in real life it would be scary though.

Going over to meet up with rudimentary mary today, will say hello to her from all One Spacers. Hopefully she will be joining us for a while over the Christmas holidays.

How is everyone today? Hope you are ready for Spain, pq. Did your son have a good time on his trip, kiera? Is it back to work, Hopeful? How are you hazeleyes?

My prep for spain is going well and my pre-travel jitters are at a minimum so all going to plan.

PQ, deepest sympathy to you and to your friend's family, 40 is so young and life can be very unfair. I feel lucky that I have been able to see my boys grow up. Glad the conference went well Smile

Sally and sparkling, both doing some spring (autumn) cleaning! I am not about to make it a hat trick.

Have a nice time with your friend tonight, sparkling, even if just for a while

Mary was fine, it was lovely to see her; she sent good wishes to you all and she will be here at Christmas time, she is going to Edinburgh with her daughter over half term.

As well as going to see her, I have delivered a card to a friend, collected a parcel and done two lots of laundry. Son has done his jobs (with a backwards baseball cap on and a soundtrack of very loud rap music)

Has anyone else used Amazon Locker? You get your Amazon order delivered to a bank of lockers in a shop near you (mine is near to where I do my counselling) and they email you when it has arrived and a code number, you go to the shop and there is a screen like a cashpoint screen, you put in your code number and a locker door spookily swings open. It's good if you cannot guarantee you will be in when the parcel comes or have not got a neighbour who will be there.

Feet up tonight Laughing

Just caught up a bit. Sally, there is nothing to be squeamish about in a first aid course. No blood and gore involved. Actual first aid doesn't often involve blood and gore either - unless you have trauma going on.... :-)

I had one of the hospital appointments as a patient days today and it was totally messed up again. Never mind. Only till February, then I am done with any chemo/drug treatment. I am going to complain about the department that prepares the drugs officially now though. They were supposed to be ready at 11 and I got them at ten to one. Ridiculous.

I have this weekend off, on Monday I am in for a short course. So a couple of easy days.

Hope everyone is ok. So sorry PQ to hear about your friend!

Good morning and how are you all?

Hazeleyes, sorry to hear you had such a bad night and hope you did better last night. I imagine you can't wait for half term, is there one more week to work? Hopefully you can have some fun over the break. My car was in a covered car park thank heavnes but I was still an idiot for leaving it like that.

What's on the menu today for everyone? I am going to make a little shepherd's pie for later but there is a buffet lunch after church so that solves that one and I will leave some pasta for The Boy when he wakes up, he was working at the nightclub till the early hours.

One thing we talk about here a lot is spending Special Time with each child. I was thinking yesterday that now that my youngest has got over the "all parents are pants" stage it would be good to see where we were at with things so had a chat with him. He is so grown up these days that he leads his own life but we agreed it would be nice to choose a film to watch together or even to go out for lunch. What I really noticed is that even though we hadn't done the activity yet, the fact that I was expressing that I WANTED to do something with him seemed to go down well. We ended up spending extra time chatting and had a few jokes about things and he was able to discuss one or two issues as well. I felt so glad that I had grasped the nettle.

What's everyone up to? Weather does not look very good so I am wondering whether there are some people havinga duvet day?

Friday was actually reallly nice as it had been a while since I saw my friend.

The rain has been torrential here.  I should really go to work to get on with Sage for the year end, but I've got to the 'why should I'.  Boss has been behaving erratically, and colleauge and I are a bit concerned.  She knows that she'll be retiring with her husbanc in 15 months time however...  It was only in May I resigned (and it wasn't accepted).  It was a good for a while then.

Anyhow, I don't feel up to it.  Daughter didn't get in until 4am, and so felt obliged to have a discussion about how I need to know what she's doing.  She was taking a friend home, which involves dark B roads, and with the torrential rain I know roads would have been flooded.  I told her a text at 2.30am to say they were leaving the nightclub and then nothing was not good enough.  I was still dressed and ready to get in the car!

I just need the courage to have a crack at the self-employment lark and to see if I can get a shift or two in a supermarket without shelve stacking...

I have my tv in the living room insured, and the pixels are starting to go on it.  I have found the document, so must phone to see if its covered.

I was in the surgery on Friday and saw a woman GP.  She was fantastic.  So fantastic that when she took my blood pressure it was practically normal.  I'm terrified of GPs!

It's a really rough day here.

Was the carnival good, Hopeful? or is it one of those things you used to go to when the children were younger?

It's great when we see children FINALLY mellow a bit. I have had some issues with mine, hazeleyes, I was tearing my hair out with youngest three years ago. I think the "best" thing we can do is keep the relationship going despite everything but also my personal belief is that a few boundaries have to be insisted on. Like sparkling above, I agree that one boundary should be "let me know where you are and that you are safe", another one I like is "we treat each other with respect" Too many rules seems to be counter-productive (I meet parents who have ridiculous ones) but some basic ones are non-negotiable. And that book helped loads!!!!!

How exciting to get two new tellys, Hazleyes, now all we need is some good Christmas programmes, haha. Finger crossed you get yours mended, sparkling.

Did your daughter understand your concern sparkling? Glad you had a nice GP, they are like gold dust. I am due to go for annaul blood test/urine dipstick and smear test soon. YUK.

Hope everyone will have a good day. I didn't go to the church lunch because the service was so busy and noisy, I had had enough of being with a crowd and came home and had lunch with The Boy instead

Carnival... now you've started me on something! What is called carnival here - maybe with the exception of Nottinghill - to me is a very very pointless exercise. I mean: why????? Nottinghill is an exception because of its size and I am assuming it's a copy of Brazil.

'Real' Carnival to me is the period from 11/11 @ 11:11 to Shrove Tuesday. It's a very German thing and often called the fifth season. People put on masked balls and sort of variety shows with speeches, dances, sketches etc. Around the last weekend there are parades - mostly in the cities - on a big scale. Also on the last Monday and Tuesday the children in fancy dress will go knocking on doors, singing a special song and get rewarded with sweets. On Ash Wednesday some people meet for a herring breakfast/brunch (it won't be too early because of the last balls having happened the night before) and lent begins.

Enough of the lecture! The carnival here meant I couldn't get the car to my house and had to leave some of the shopping in it. No2 son came to meet me where I'd parked and helped carry the necessities home.

Now trying to get my act together and do stuff. Have I ever told you about my 'inner pigdog' that's stopping me from doing things. He's very pushy today!

My curry was lovely, there was a meal deal at the Indian restaurant (which is why we went, heh heh) Yesterday, I had to do some massive sorting-out as the drawer under my bed is  broken, I was amazed at all the stuff I had got in there, no wonder it is broken. Found some lovely photos of the boys and also some things I wrote in a creative writing class. I saw two counselling clients in the afternoon and went to my housegroup in the evening so a busy day all round. It's lovely and calm here this evening.  I think there might even be a sunset, but I have Scouts, so no chasing a sunset this evening....

I've been called into the college tomorrow as 17 year old is struggling with work.  I've had a good chat with him after he came home from college.  He so needs to work at home too, but won't.  I've told him we'll have to sit side by side at the kitchen table.

The tutor says there are options, so we shall have to see.  If there was work for him to go into, I wouldn't be panicking quite so much.

The I will be going into work as we're interviewing someone for my part of the contract.  So I thought I'd better be there.  Colleague off next week too, so i need to see what's going on with her work, as I cannot go in on Friday as 17 year old is having teeth out ready for his brace.

Good morning one and all Smile

Hope everyone is Ok today and on the countdown to half-term. The weather forecast is good today for most of us so today is the day to get out and about getting jobs done or enjoying any sun there "may" be before the rain returns. I have a little list of jobs and errands and will enjoy doing them this morning. A friend near York has invited me over on Sunday, they have a newish baby whom I have not seen yet so one of my nicest errands is to buy something to take for the baby.

Sparkling, it's a worry about 17 year old, so is he more likely to do work if you sit down with him? How did Scouts go?

Sally hope you got an earlyish night, and good luck for your busy day today. Have you got some plans for half term?

Wonder when PQ is back, hope she has some sunshine.

Wishing everyone who visits here a good day, let us know your news Laughing

Hello everyone,

I had a lovely time in Spain. It was really good to see my friend. Had some good weather too so I missed all the rain, although it was pouring down when I landed on Tuesday night!

Since being back work has been frenetic and I haven't had a moment to think, just having a bit of lunch now then off again.

Had a lovely surprise when I got back. My mum had emptied the dirty washing basket, washed it all and ironed it, and my dad had been round the house fixing various things....such a lucky girl Cool

I've been catching up with all your news, sounds like its been a bit wet! Glad you got to see your friend sparkling, and glad to see you hazeleyes. Not sure what an 'inner pigdog' is hopeful, but it sounds like it could be a menace!

I'm glad you had a good time pq.  Nice to come home to that too!

Quite a trying meeting with the tutors.  My son almost broke down at one point, which is when my tears started to slip.  I didn't cry, as such, just the tears.  He was rocking in his chair.  Clearly a boy with issues...   Anyhow, options were put to him, but he has decided to carry on with the course rather than take other options.  The tutors would have kept him with the same group whatever.  He made a list while we were there, which impressed the tutors.

So he will now have a book which the learner support will complete weekly so I have an idea what needs going on in the hope that we can support him.  He seems to appreciate that he has to work at home.

I have a headache and feel shattered.

Ah sparkling it's tough isn't it when they are struggling a bit, my 16 year old has just been put on supervision for not handing in homework etc at sixth form, he chooses to spend time with friends rather than doing work.

I did manage the early night Louise, good thing too, had to do some interviewing this morning so need my wits about me, met with a few clients and managed to get through my inbox pile of replies and half way through my phone call list, have parents evening at A's school tonight and have another meeting following that at L's school, so a busy evening.

Well just let him show himself up, pq, heh heh. Glad your break was so enjoyable and how lovely that your parents did that. My dad always used to polish my kettle (metal kind)as one of his jobs when he came over, I never saw him do it but after he had gone I would suddenly see my reflection as I was making a cup of tea!

Sparkling, the meeting sounds tough. I hope your son has understood the homework thing now, I know it is more pressure on you but it does sound hopeful. Hope you got a deent sleep. It is the dentist today for him, isn't it?

Sally your day was mega busy! Hope the parent-teacher meetings went ok?

It is throwing it down with rain here. The Boy is off to Newcastle later today to visit some grisly mates. I believe an early decampment to bed will be my choice as I woke up ridiculously early.

Hope everyone will have a good day!

Good morning, or should I say wet and miserable morning! But hey its friday so I've got a smile on my face Smile

Parents evening went well last night, ex managed to keep his snide comments to himself, and even tried to engage me in conversation and made a joke, which wasn't at my expense Surprised. The teacher was very complimentary about H too so all in all a good evening. What made me sad though was when we got home, both girls said how they loved to see me and ex getting on and that it made them happy. Its easy to forget how these things affect the children so much.

Girls night tonight so trying to think of something fun to do indoors, I saw a post on facebook the other day about making worms by using jelly and straws! Might give it a go.

How are you today sparkling?

Glad your parents evening went well PQ, the jelly worm thing sounds interesting let us know how it goes and i might give it ago.

Hey Lousie, parents evening went well, good reports all round, managed to get another early night as i had a major headache by the end of the day, felt refreshed this morning.

The weather has turn't out o.k. after a drizzly start.  Ballet tonight with L will be  popping to a friends for a cuppa and a natter whilst she is there Wink  If the weather is good i may do a bit of gardening this weekend.

Hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.

Ooh jelly worms, that sounds fascinating! and pancakes for brekky  too, PQ! Yes, it is sad when we realise our children still harbour thoughts of everything being tickety-boo between their parents...all you can do is stay civil on your part, I guess. What does the weekend hold for you?

Sally you have been busy and good that you can take time out with a friend while your daughter is at her lesson Wink Gardening, eek! I have cut back a few plants and shrubs and tidied it up for winter, planted some rhubarb earlier in the year and that is doing really well. I was looking on the internet for humane anti-slug remedies. One person suggested creeping out at the dead of night with a pit helmet on (for the light) and skewering them with a spiked pole. NOT very humane and I will certainly not be doing that!!!! But I might cover the rhubarb with a fine net.

So what is everyone doing this weekend? I am going to a literature event this morning with my friend, then I am buying some flowers ready for tomorrow when I go and see the friends who have the baby. Shopping being delivered this afternoon and son arriving home. He went to Newcastle on the coach in the end as it was HALF the price of the train.

Look forward to reading your updates Laughing

hi all

took h to her diving class this morning. Girls been out with their dad for a couple of hours so I popped to the shops and met a friend for posh coffee. Now I'm having a few moments peace before the girls come back and my friend drops her boys round for a sleep over! Tomorrow I'll take the girls to my parents for half term so I'll be home alone for the rest of the week.

What was the literature event Louise? Did you enjoy it?

Hello PQ, sounds like a decent day for you, and a few peaceful days ahead as the girls go to your parents' house, have you any plans (apart from working, of course Undecided)

I have changed my avatar, to reflect the changes in the three of us since I first compiled it. If anyone wants to change theirs, click here then you will have to log in to your Doppel Me account (I got them to email me my password as I had forgotten it) but had fun altering everyone and when I returned to One Space, hey presto I had changed!

The literature thing, it was different authors doing presentations/talks. The one I chose was two authors talking about their books which were both about women who were married to powerful men....Katherine Parr from the 16th century and the wives of the top Nazi leaders. Fascinating. Did you know that Goering kept lion cubs as house pets? You learn something new every day!

What's everyone up to tonight? Youngest got back in one piece, phew. Strictly and X Factor for me!

I was in the local university with my daughter this morning.  We were there until after 1pm. Both of us worn out, and me with a migraine.  I called into the shop where my friend works on the way home as I needed to get more sketch books to replace "lost" ones and pencils for 17 year old.  My friend helped me find them, so we at least leaned against each other which gave me some strength.  He caught up with us later too to show us the xmas crafty stuff (the section he's on at the moment) Laughing He actually is starting to look better thank goodness.  I would like to get 'back to normal'.  I felt so rotten by then though I didn't hang about.

Seventeen year old had four teeth out yesterday under general anaesthetic.  MiL came along as the second adult.  It was a long wait though, and as he was the oldest there, he wasn't taken in until last.

He's ok today.

My friend and her 14 year old son called - the one who moved away a few years back.  My 14 years old thrilled to see his once best friend.  We both enjoy seeing them together, as even though it may be months since they've seen each other, they get on so well.  FB helps!

I'm off to bed now.  See if I can get rid of this headache...

Need to batten down the hatches.  It's very rough here already.

Busy, busy sparkling! Hope a sleep has helped your poor head, migraines are just so horrid. Glad your boy has recovered from his tooth op, he can get on with all his new sketch pads now. You and your friend do need to support each other and you will come out the other side. Was the Uni visit cos this is where your daughter will apply? Nice that your son saw his friend laugh

Good morning everyone and hope you are well. I wonder what you are all doing today and what you are cooking? I'm off to church then later to the friends near York who have the baby girl, they are cooking my tea (hurrah!) and I have got the little outfit to take as a prezzie

Morning

all the children decided to camp out in the lounge last night!  I fell asleep at about 12.30 and all was quiet so I think they got some sleep. About to embark on a mammoth pancake making session!

I hope you enjoyed the pancakes pq.

it is quite handy that daughter wants to go to the Uni up the road, which would save some money.  One of the advisors was suggesting she does a couple of modules through the medium of Welsh to get an extra bursary too, but she's not too keen...  Her Welsh is excellent but scientific terms in Welsh are something to be believed!

I have my gym stuff on to go on the treadmill for a while.  Fourteen year old refusing to get out of bed to come with me Cool
