Well I have enjoyed catching up with all the news.

A big thank you to Sally for being here, great to see you again!

Kiera that is fantastic that you enjoyed your holiday...well-deserved and hope your boy go on well at "big school" yesterday. Did you enjoy a bit of peace and quiet with them all back to it?

Sparkling, how are you this morning? Hope your throat is a little easier. I agree with Anna, not answering the phone is a good option. Maybe you could say to your boss that if you are so very essential, he needs to double your wages, heh heh. How did your youngest get on at school? Are the other two at college today?

Looby do tell us what your new dress is like....colour, material, length, style? Glad you have J back with you. did you manage the school shoes? I always hated shoe shopping, our local Clarks has a ticket system so people go in order, I used to get there as the shop opened and take an "entertainment" along too. Still had to wait sometimes but the boys were less tired and grumpy than they would have been later in the day, and more open to the bribe of "after your shoes, you can have a go on the Batman ride" (20p)

Hopeful, glad you have settled down to work again, how are all the family doing?

Anna it sounds as if you overdid it a bit with the running, how far do you have to go now on the programme?

Well I have had a lovely week off, and my trip was fab, have not been there since I was a teenager. Activities this week have included visiting a falconry centre, a vintage motor museum, a fascinating tour of some really old music boxes/pianolas/phonographs (even saw the inside workings, I loved it) and a viewing of Katherine Parr's toilet!!! (red velvet seat) HAHA. Had a few posh coffees too, of course. Was very lucky with the weather.

So here we are with a new term!!!! How is everyone. PQ did you enjoy Denmark? Hazeleyes, are you and C back at school, is he in Year 6 now?

Look forward to more of your news now that the children are back and you might, just might, get five minutes to think!

Good morning everyone,

Hope you are all well? I have had a fab break. Denmark was brilliant! My friends totally spolit us and made us feel very special. They asked if we would like to make it an annual trip, H turned round and said she would like to go twice a year! Both girls are back at school now and I am back at work so the hum drum of life has returned.

Louise your trip sounded lovely, even the toilet seat!

HAHA the toilet seat. I kept thinking "you couldn't clean that with Cillit Bang" Great that you had such a good break, PQ, how have the girls been with going back to school?

Looby hope J has got on well in his new class. Isn't it strange how smart they look in their new uniform and by this time next week it will look rather worn-in

Hi sparkling, good that youngest is in the swing of things. Hope your throat is feeling easier

H went back yesterday, but came home in a funny mood. She's off on her first school trip next week for 5 days so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. I'm going to have a chat with her tonight via her cuddly toys, that seems to be a good method. A went back today so haven't seen her yet, I'm sure it will throw something up.

Hope you're feeling ok today sparkling.

I've had a blocked ear ever since I got back from Denmark and its realy getting on my nerves. By the end of the day its quite painful. Hopefully it will pop soon.

Hi everyone, nice to see the Chat area a little more chatty than it has been recently! Surprised

Well done Louise for spotting that September had started but the Sept Chat thread hadn't, gold star for you, the break obviously worked wonders for you Smile

Looby I hope J is full of stories of what a great day he has had and will settle easily for a good nights sleep, I imagine he will be exhausted.

pq, your break away sounded wonderful for both you and the girls, better start saving for the next trip in 6 months time then Wink Good luck with your chat with H, where is the school trip to? I hope your ear pops soon, it can be so painful, which can bring you down too.

sparklinglime, my daughter has started a new course at college, the last one wasn't for her and already she is back into the swing of things, its surprising how quickly the 6 weeks get forgotten. Hope you have had a good day.

I am supposed to be running tonight, but the weather is divine, so have decided to give myself a break, later I am going to a new singing group with my daughter, only a taster session, so we will see how it goes. Looking forward to releasing some happy hormones!!

I hope everyone manages to get some garden/outdoor time this evening, its so lovely out there Smile

J has had a fab day at school, but is exhausted bless him. He's already in bed and asleep. He loves his new teacher but the thing he was most impressed with? He has a pirate on his coat peg!

As for my dress Louise, its classed as a prom dress, so fitted top and flares out which suits my weird body shape. It's taupe with big black spots over it. It's knee length which worried me at first. I usually cover my legs up as I have lymph odema in my left leg as a result of having J. Literally all the leftover fluid rushed down there when I gave birth. It has left my leg a bit misshapen. But I've bought some support tights and thought sod it. I'll just have to make the top half look stunning so no one notices the bottom half lol. It's a linen type material and has an underskirt with a bit of netting to make the skirt stand out. I love it. Glad you enjoyed your holiday.

Good to have you back PQ and glad you enjoyed Denmark.

Happy singing Anna.

Hope you are feeling better Sparkling.

GP tomorrow as I've had this sore throat for weeks now.

The weather was lovely here today, but a mist came over before the sunset.

Youngest at Explorer's this evening, and we re-start Scouts next Wednesday in a new location.  Hopefully a change of evening will bring a couple of leaders back.  Logistics of getting some of our (leaders) children to a town 10 miles away though and get back to run our Scout group is going to be fun!

Oh good.  I can go to sleep now!

Off tomorrow (my new day off as I work all day Monday), so off to the gym for 9am.  My friend is joining me too.

Morning one and all, it's great to catch up on your news Laughing

Looby your dress sounds fab! I agree re not worrying too much about your leg, may I suggest a blingy necklace and some bright lippy to complete the effect? Do you have exercises/massage you can do for your leg? There is a great system I have seen for lymphodema exercises called the LeBed method (click to see) Glad J enjoyed his first day and a pirate eh? he will love it.

Sparkling good luck at the GP, and at the gym also, good to take a friend, sounds like everything is getting up and running for your lot.

Anna I am soooooo jealous of your singing group. I have been looking around for something here and there are those Rock Up and Sing groups but they are expensive and they have a waiting list. I must ring and find out the info for the Thai Chi group I want to try. I keep doing the noises and jumping on my youngest, much to his annoyance, haha.

PQ sorry about your ear, it really hurts when it needs to pop, is it worth driving out somewhere with a high hill to see if you can encourage it? Would be better if someone else did the driving so you don't have to shout AAAAGH at the wheel. Hope H does well on her trip. I agree acting things out with toys is a really good method. When my eldest went away from home when he was 10 I wrapped a small gift for each morning (sweets, a bouncy ball, a small toy car) and it really helped him with the homesickness to have a little gift each day and the other children were taking an interest in what he had got. That was a tip I got from my friend's mum, who was a teacher.

How are you today kiera?

I am having my hair cut this morning and meeting a friend later. She has kindly agreed to hem 2 skirts for me, they need a lot of taking up as they are dragging on the ground, I have lost some inches round my waist but they are elasicated so I can still wear them, it's just that they are now too long, even when I wear them like Bay City Roller trouser waistbands under a long top, haha.

Thanks for the video Louise, will def have to try those. The doc just told me to sit with y leg up as much as possible and I have to take water tablets occasionally.

Should hear something about the mortgage today, so am feeling slightly sick. Will either be party or commiserations tonight.

Am also having a mole removed from my back this morning as its looking a bit dodgy. J gutted he can't come and watch it be cut out!

Good morning,

Your dress sounds fab Looby, glad you decided to get your legs out.

Had the chat with H last night, she thought it was very amusing that her teddies thought she might be worried about going away! It turned out that someone borrowed her scooter and put a flat spot on the wheel which was why she was upset....silly mummy!!

Sparkling, I was wondering how you've been getting on with that mattress you got? I really need to get a new one and I'm not sure what to get.

Like you're suggestion on how to get my ear to pop louise, unfortunately there isn't anywhere that high around here.

Anna, I'm gearing myself up to start running again. I'm going to get myself some new running shoes this weekend. My neighbour wants to join me, she's on a big weight loss programme and has lost a lot already but now feels she could cope with moving on from walking to running so the 2 of us can puff round together!

I've just come in from the gym, and waiting for the dog to come in from the garden before I go and have a shower.

The mattress is brilliant pq, thank you.  It's made a lot of difference as my other was well wrecked!

We started sorting out scouting stuff last night in the pub while our 14 year olds were in Explorers (in a different town).  I feel better now that we've changed location.  I want to set up a Beavers group after half term, and so far two adults and a fourteen year old have said they'll help!!  The adults seem to like little children, which will be a great help, as I'm simply doing it as a means to an end!!!

Shower time.

Hi sparkling! I was most impressed that you went to the gym at 9am, I am terrible in the mornings Smile After your shower I bet you have felt great all day? It sounds as though sorting out scout stuff in the pub was very productive, with lots of support.

kiera, great to hear that your son is enjoying his school, so important, does he know many of the others. Fingers crossed nothing else breaks, although I too find that it happens in threes!

Pq, great to hear you are going to get your running shoes back on, well new ones anyway!! I am doing Couch to 5K from NHS choices and it was all going really well until they upped one of the runs from 3 mins one week to 5 mins the next Surprised That may not sound like much to a runner, but it was blinking hard work!!!!! Hope your ear is feeling better, have you tried holding a cup over it and swallowing?

Looby, your dress does sound gorgeous and I love your plan of snazzying up the top half, so no-one looks down, we all have our strategies eh?! Hope the removal of the mole went ok and news of the mortgage.

It is still lovely weather here, but I hear it is going to change over the next few hours. Thank crunchie its Friday tomorrow, have a good evening everyone.

Well, I've had 10 days worth of a massive hit of antibiotics.  I've never had a course go on that long.  Gone on a long time and throat is a mess.  This is a starting point...

My fingers are crossed that this does clear things.  He looked and then had a good look.

Oh dear.  It's not often I feel a bit concerned.  But I am...

I'm hoping the clouds will clear and I can see a sunset, and calm down a bit.  I'm making the most of them...

I hope all is calm with everyone.

How's your ear pq?

Hopeful, did your son get sorted ok?

I hope the antibiotics work Sparkling. Ex was once given a huge dose of antibiotics for a chest infection and they worked pretty quickly, so fingers crossed.

I've had my mole taken off. It is now hurting as the anaesthetic has worn off. He took a huge chunk out of my back as he said he had to get good tissue around the stuff that looked dodgy. Feels like he has taken most of my back! I even got him to take a pic for J as it has to stay covered for 48 hours. I am the coolest mum ever now I've been sewn up. He did say it looks like when I sewed his monkey teddy up. I do hope not!

Am home alone tonight as J has gone to his dads. It is his dads birthday tomorrow so J has gone for a sleepover and dad is taking him to school. Was going to the cinema with Thursday friend but she is poorly sick again. Catch up tv for me. Also going to browse for some new free books for my kindle.

Hope everyone has a good evening

Morning and welcome to a rainy Friday. I can hear the garden cheering! Wink

Sparkling, fingers crossed that these antibs will ZAP the throat infection and pep you up no end. As for the Scouty stuff, I know it is a pain going ten miles but it does feel like a fresh start. Back to work today?

Looby, ouch, hope your back didn't keep you awake. I had a mole removed on my neck some years ago but that is a place you can easily keep the pressure off. There are lots of good, free books on a Kindle my friend tells me. I haven't got one so buy the paperbacks or read library books, I have got a wish list with 11 books on it now. Is J back this afternoon?

PQ I have never heard of the putting a cup over your ear that Anna mentioned, did you try it? Ahhh, all became clear about what was worrying H. How are things going at work, has the new person settled in now?

Kiera, you have had the lawn mower and the hoover gone wrong, I know what you mean about waiting for the third thing. Let's hope it is something cheap like the toaster Cool

Hop everyone will have a good day, I am glad not to have any meetings, I went to Book Club last night and we have an Ian McEwan to read this time

Ooo a date Kiera, how exciting. I've been seeing someone too, very early days yet but so far so good.

My ear is still painful. I haven't heard about the glass trick Anna but I will give it a go when I get home from work. Its starting to hurt down my neck now Frown.

Sparkling I do hope your throat clears up very soon. Sometimes the only thing that works is slowing down and rest, could you take some time off work?

There is no new person yet Louise, its still under discussion. In the NHS there will need to be at least 5 meetings before everyone agrees to it.

Looby are you taking any painkillers? Disturbed sleep is rubish.

Well my ex has cut back his time with the girls on Saturday. He's seeing them less and less, using work as his excuse. I understand that work is important but it frustrates me that he will drop them like that, I'm sure it must make them feel second best.

Sorry I haven't been her in ages!

Yes,  Sparkling, No3 son is now officially going to college. He went in that day with his friend and found it was enrolement day, so he did. They accepted even that he didn't have prove of address on him or anything. (I'll sort that out for him in the coming week).

No2 son went to sign on - which is a really complicated thing to do - and has been told to turn up at the job centre weekly. He said - in passing - yesterday, oh by the way I have a job interview next week. Fingers crossed.

Also we changed No3 son's surname last week, he wanted to change to my late husband's surname; it's the one everyone has been using anyway, and you can only do it without the other parent's consent if you have either proved that you've tried everything to get that consent, or if you're at least sixteen. It is amazingly easy to do that! In theory I could do it for somebody else as long as I know where they live and when they were born. A bit scary....

Going to a friend's silver wedding anniversary and her parents' golden wedding anniversary celebration today. Hope the M25 is ok after last night.

Work is good - albeit a bit unpredictable. Yesterday I was sent to work on A&E instead of my own ward as they were short staffed (and seeing that I am the newest staff member.... sigh). But it was ok - I have worked there before, so at least I had an idea what I was doing.

Sparkling I hope these antibiotics don't make you feel horrid and they do their job!

Looby - hope all is ok with the mole-cutting. I pity J, I would have wanted to come, too!

PQ - hope they don't work you too hard!

Anna and Louise - just looking back over the September bits here: You two seem to know something about everything! How do you do it?!!! :-)

Wishing everybody a great weekend!

Morning to everyone and excellent to see the rain clear, hope it is better where you are too Smile

Looby here's hoping you had a better night and that you will enjoy today with J. What are you reading on your Kindle at the moment?

Sparkling how's your throat? Hope you are getting lots of rest (silly question)

PQ ah I did not realise that the new person had not started yet, you're right, it would have been a bit too good to be true. What a shame about the girls' dad. Over the years I have talked with so mnay parents who were sad about their dwindling time with their children so I feel angry when I hear of those who don't seem to grab their opportunities. Where does your new chap live?

Kiera, hopefully your lawn will look beautiful with the professional mowing. Did you have a nice lunch with your daughter? Just be careful with the new chap that he is not at the house too often or staying over, the children have JUST started to feel safe and secure in their home so it feels really important that no-one invades that. Although you are thinking of yourself as being single for a year now, to me it was only after the latest court date that you finally broke free so take it steady Smile

Hopeful how fab to see you! Glad work is going ok and certainly there is no time to be bored there. Hope you will have a wonderful time at the joint party. Are you staying overnight? great about your son going to college and fingers crossed for your other son's job interview. As for Anna and I knowing things, we try to keep up with everything that's going on around us and love helping people with bit and bobs we have picked up along the way Wink

Good morning,

the new chap lives in Spain. He's a friend of my best friend and I met him at her party earlier this year. When we met he was involved with someone else but we really hit it off. That relationship didn't work out, he asked my friend for my number and things have gone on from there. I'm not thinking to far ahead but it's fun at the moment.

my day so far has been great. The girls went off with their dad early so I went back to bed with a cup of tea and a new book. I've just started 'the hundred year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared' it's been recommended to me by quite a few people so I'll see how it goes. Have you read it Louise? Then I luxuriated in my new shower. The girls will be back soon so just enjoying some quiet time. The rest of the day will be usual weekend stuff. Getting h ready for her school trip on Monday.

kiera did the gardener do a good job. I was considering getting someone in to sort mine out ready for the winter, since my backs been bad I haven't done any and it's looking very wild!

Hopeful you are as gruesome as my son! He was slightly mollified this morning when I let him take the dressing off and he got to have a proper look. I'm surprised by how big it is, it's about five cm end to end. The mole was only teeny.

PQ you'll have to let me know what you think of that book. I have it queued on my kindle. I'm currently reading a fluffy light hearted romance at the moment. No substance, but doesn't take any thinking about!

Grass cutting is one thing I do miss ex for. Mine is desperate, but I can't do it today because of stitches. Am thinking of bribing my nephew! I have decided that if I do sort the house out (post to follow on my thread) I am having fake grass fitted. My friend has had this done and it looks great. Will also get rid of the shed that ex insisted we needed. Don't need it now there is no motorbike in the garage!

Kiera it does sound as though your daughter has her head screwed on. You must be very proud of her. Obviously she gets it from her mum!

Sparkling hope the anti b's are starting to work.

Looby I have to say that I agree with Hopeful and am interested in the stitches. Whereas some people look away if there is an operation on Tv, I am fascinated. And it is surprising how many questions on University Challenge you can answer if you are a regular viewer of Holby City Wink Hope your back continues to ease.

Kiera that sounds as if you have really thought about this chap, the boys in particular will be wary. Glad your daughter had a great time.

PQ I have not read that book but have heard good reports, will be interested to hear what you think. My last book was "Wolf Hall" by Hilary Mantel, really good but not a light read, it needed all my concentration. Today I have had a go at a Richard and Judy book from last year called Secrets of the Tides but I just found it really uninteresting and gave up by page 60. There are so many good books to read that it does have to grab my attention to make it worthwhile. Hope you have enjoyed your me time

Morning all.

Yes it was the new Richard Curtis film. I really, really enjoyed it. One of those films that I really got into.

Got no plans for the day apart from trip to the pet store to get sawdust and food. For the guinea pig I hasten to add. When J comes back from his dad he usually just wants to potter around at home playing with his toys, so I tend not to make any plans. Still need to get uniform ironed.

I'm a winner! I won a £25 voucher in the new pet shops opening raffle! I have stocked up on pet sawdust wood shaving and have treated the guinea pig to a posh water bottle. It's a glass bottle with a floating duck in it so you can see when it's getting empty. J thinks its brill. It also solves the problem of the guinea pig chewing through bottles!

what an exciting life I lead.......

Nice one Looby!

I've been at a scouty training thing all day.  It was nice to have a catch up with everyone though.  My daughter came along too, so she can put some names to faces.

Great stuff, Looby Smile Bet J loves the water bottle. Glad you enjoyed the film.

Kiera I love hearing about your dinners. Are the boys Ok about the new chap coming?it would be lovely if he makes a nice effort with them. Slow cookers, no they're not expensive, I use mine loads and I think sparkling is a fan of them too. You can get one for around £20 if you get eg Tesco own brand

PQ strictly....I love Rachel from Countdown but I don't think she will be very good at dancing. There is often a more mature person who does well, how about Fiona Fullerton? Good luck to H for her trip tomorrow.

Ooh sparkling training on a Sunday, it does all sound more go-ahead this term. Has everyone settled back at college and school?

Church event went well.I gave 500 balloons to 500 children. Was tired afterwards and had a little snooze with a cuppa. We were so lucky with the weather, a fab singer from Sheffield did two sets and there was face painting and hot dogs.

Have a nice evening everyone Smile

The balloons for the children sounds lovely.

The children are back into the routine of school and college now.  Daughter not in until Wednesday though, so I'm not sure if she'll have enough hours to be classed as a full-time student.  Timetable is being sorted on Wednesday, so we shall see...

Good morning.....actually afternoon, what a busy morning I have had it has flown by!

Gosh what a lot of news can get packed into a weekend!

sparklinglime, glad everyone is back into their routine and that your daughter will be considered full time. Presumably the time she is not in college, she will be expected to study?

Looby! Congratulations on your win! How fab! Your lucky guinea pig, the water bottle sounds great! You have persuaded me to go and see About Time, my daughter wants to go, but I hate spending money at the cinema if the film is not that great! Hows your back? I had a mole removed years ago and still have quite a huge scar, people often ask how I got it and I love making up stories!

Hi kiera, I love the sound of your sunday dinners too, I hope it went down well? I reckon a slow cooker would be fab for you, with so many mouths to feed, you can chop everything up in the morning then come supper time, voila! Its all done!

pq your 'day off' sounded good, cup of tea and good book in bed, gorgeous! Glad to hear that you have someone that is bringing some added fun into your life, enjoy! How is the book? I have just been looking at some reviews and it seems to have a bit of a Marmite sensation about it, you either love or hate it. What do you think?

Hopeful, I hope you are well? How was the anniversaries party? Did you all have a good time? I was very flattered by your comment about myself and Louise, thank you! Smile How did your son's job interview go and how is your other son settling into college?

Hi Louise, your church event sounded like it was a blast - 500 children, phew, not surprised you took a nap :)

I had a lovely weekend, a couple of months ago we had been out for Sunday lunch with my brother and his wife and a couple of other friends, my daughter said she wanted to make it a bi-monthly thing and then put it on the calendar. So on Saturday I rang my bro and we arranged it again and a couple of other friends joined us. All good except the Sunday Roasts had run out by the time we got around to ordering, which was most disappointing, but lots of fun and laughter was still had Laughing

Hi sparkling, it is surprising how few contact hours they need to be "full-time", it is only 12 hours a week up to A level if they are under 20 and 21 hours for a Uni student (although at Uni this will include the private study element)

Anna, Your family meet-up sounded great. I love things like that with a big group gathering.

My youngest is living the life of a human whirlwind. On Saturday he worked at Asda then came home, short rest and meal, then worked at the nightclub till 5am. Went to bed till 1pm then got up, had cereal and eggs and laid on the bed till teatime then worked again at the club till midnight, came home, had 4 hours sleep then back to Asda again, came home at 2pm and went back to bed., I will wake him up in about a hour for his tea. He is off to Sheffield tomorrow for some horrendous party then they are all staying in a Travel Lodge. Give me 9pm PJs any day!

Hope you all will have a good evening and Tuesday, back with you on Wednesday Laughing

Morning all,

I'm about a 3rd of the way through the book now Anna and I'm really enjoying it. Its a bit like forest gump I suppose, but with an old man!

H has had her first night away and I've been worrying about her. I'm sure she'll be fine, I just can't help myself.

I'm tired just reading about your son louise! I suppose he has youth on his side.

Hi pancakequeen, glad to hear you are enjoying the book, is it like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time?

Where did H go? Are they camping or indoors. I am sure she will be fine too, having a grand old time of it!

sparklinglime, I hope you have sun today, it has been lovely here this morning.

Louise, I love and miss your son's lifestyle. Cool My daughter is reconsidering her college options, there seems to be soo many choices!

Catch up with everyone later.
