HiP is a parent participation group funded by the Department for Education. It helps parents get their voices heard and have real influence over the specialist & mainstream services their children use. Membership is open to any parent/carer with a child with any kind of disability or additional needs. It’s run by a group of 12 parents/carers whose children have a variety of different conditions including autism, global developmental delay and speech/communication difficulties. We run information and discussion events and attend meetings with professionals to explain what parents/carers need. Disability puts extra stress on relationships and many of our members are single parents.
In 2014 HiP has been working with local education, health and social care staff to implement the big changes to law around SEN provision.
