Hopeful
DoppleMe

Everyone overslept this morning! Ended up taking No3 son in myself (he asked and I had to go in at some point anyway, so thought I'd do that early then). Went to uni to sort out formalities to start placement. Then went to placements office to see what I can do for my last placement which is in theory 4 weeks of whatever I want. Because everyone else's placement is before mine I can pretty much pick and choose, so I am thinking what I want to do.

Sparkling, I think you're mean, getting your children out of bed by deceit! I would be most upset if you did that to me - mind, I think snow is horrid, so I wouldn't get out of bed to see that.

Ah, Louise, the pains of growing up, huh. Wish No2 son did something proactive about finding a job. He has an exam today.

PQ - can I join you on your holiday? I feel I've not had one in years (which is kind of true; going to Germany to see my mum doesn't really count.....).

Wishing everyone a lovely day - we have bright sun down here, although it is cold.

Hi Hopeful, your more than welcome to come too, I can squeeze you into my suitcase Smile.

Just had to leave the office as the fire alarm was going off, couldn't believe that less than half the staff from the adjoining office came outside. They felt it was too cold!!

Hi sparklinglime, I like your tactic of getting your teens out of bed too! Fab idea! How did they react when they saw that there was only rain? I hope your shopping arrived safely and it had your cat food. I did worry for a moment, that they might have run out and decide to replace it with another type of pet food. Hamster perhaps!!

Hi pq, a colleague was talking about that programme, it is dreadful isn't it, it really should make us realise how lucky we are living in this country. Clean water, abundance of food, safe homes and a reasonable justice system (of sorts).

So pq, your two are at it again! Sibling rivalry or sisterly love?! Is it anything in particular that they are arguing about or is it anything and everything?

Louise I agree with pq, that it is great that youngest son can talk to you about this stuff. I guess when we get serious about someone, we can't really help it can we? So if he goes for promotion, he gets more cash in his pocket, if it gets more serious with his date (or is she girlfriend now?), he has a lovely loving time. He really is in a win win situation!

Hope your toe is feeling better Kiss

Poor you with the toe, Louise.  I hope it has eased off.

They weren't too impressed when they realised there wasn't snow, but knew they deserved it as they did all grin even if reluctantly.

Cats are happy, and I'm glad their food wasn't substitued!

I hope the staff who didn't do the fire alarm had a telling off pq!

We've got lots of the white stuff falling from the sky and its forecast all day tomorrow Frown

Nipped to Asda earlier for some milk and bread and it was worse than Christmas. People were going mad. I am prepared and have brought loads of work home in case I can't get in tomorrow, or in case J's school closes. I'm hoping it doesn't, he will be gutted. They are having 'snow fun' tomorrow. They can all go in non uniform and provided everyone has suitable warm clothing, they are being taken out onto the school field for the last half an hour of the day. All 200 children and teachers! Year 6 can even take sledges! I want to go. I love snow when I don't have to drive everywhere in it!

Im off to bed. J was worse than a newborn last night and was up five times. I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. Friend has cancelled because of the snow, so bed it is. Night night.

Morning all. Just quickly popping in, as up early this morning (no idea why)

Aww, Louise, hope your toe is less sore today. That made me cringe reading about it, and even said 'ouch' I think it's great that your youngest opens up to you, and lets you know what is going on, both job and girlfriend. It's fantastic that he's been offered promotion, but I can clearly understand about the 'responsible' stuff at his age. Am sure he'll reach the right decision.

Sparkling, that was brilliant, waking your kids up that way. What a meanie you are (but I love it) Hope today is a good day for you. Are you at work?

Looby, the snow is definately on it's way here, think this afternoon. Can you not keep my share at yours PLEASE!!! Why do you think J was up so many times the other night? Have to say I'm waking up several times, as I'm finding it cold.

Hopeful, good luck with your placement.

Pq, hope the girls settle down for the weekend. I guess that's one of the good things with having only one child, no sibling to argue with, though of course there's always me, which is the downfall hehe.

Lots going on at work, and finding no one is listening to me. I only have the 1:1 lad's best interest at heart, and despite speaking to the teacher and SENCO, I feel like I'm up against a brick wall. Shall keep on 'bashing' the wall down! My persistance with other boy has (hopefully) paid off. The SENCO is on the ball now, although there was an incident in the playground yesterday (with C) and not one member of staff was around. C didn't report it, but has been noted down. Early days I guess, so shall still keep an eye on things.

Hope you all have a good day. No uniform day here, so was busy threading elastic through two plastic bottles (oxgyen tanks) last night. C is going as a scuba diver!!

Hello everyone and welcome to a white world if that is what you see out your window today.

Sparkling, it is forecast to be worse in Wales so I do hope you can work from home. I have an appointment today but will have to cancel, not because the roads are impassable but because I can only bear to wear slippers on my bad toe and obviously can't go out in snow in slippers! It's a bit less painful today thank goodness. Great that you had your shopping delivery, I know I have seen on TV there are empty shelves at some of the shops.

Hazeleyes, you do have to monitor the playground situation, write it down as you will compile a catalogue for if needed. Keep plugging away with the SENCO. Sorry to hear you have been cold at night, presume you have a hot water bottle in with you? A hat really helps, a friend has a soft turban made of towelling type material. This is the only time of year when hot flushes come in handy Smile I still have only a summer quilt on at night but am cold during the day at times (obviously when not under the quilt)

Hope you had a better night Looby, J will be excited about the snow. Are you going to work from home?

Hi PQ how ridiculous about the fire alarm, I guess people decided they would rather burn alive than freeze to death? Hope the girls will settle down, it is so wearing when they keep arguing and really it is best for you not to get involved though of course sometimes they can come to blows!

Hopeful glad about your placement. How did your son's exam go?

Anna I expect you have lots of snow in your neck of the woods, brrrh take care.

Morning all,

No snow here yet but we're expecting it during the day. I'm a bit worried as I work 9 miles away from home, not a great distance I know but a long way to walk if the roads clog up.

The girls are still bickering, going to start another thread about that as I feel I need to have a big rant!

Hope your toe is ok louise, reading your story made me wince!

It was snowing as I drove to work, but blowing away.  I left work about 1.30pm after a couple of texts from daughter saying the snow was sticking.

Doubtful that the new new girl will be staying.  It is felt that things are easier as they were before, especially now the contract is settling. I've asked for hours to be upped to 20, which has been agreed.  Must do turn to us (or whatever) to see how it effects things... Colleague gets £1 extra an hour too...  I think he can see that the clerical staff he has may be ok after all Cool

Youngest was sent home at 1pm.  He and daughter helped me down to the house (it's a bit of a walk and down hill). They then went off to play - and both have come home wet and frozen!

I hope you're toe is better Louise.  My son had to have two in groing toe nails sorted - and I was glad I was watching and not on the receiving end...

So, the snow is everywhere now then? Started here this morning on way to school. By 10, the message went out that children could be collected. Made me laugh, teachers were heading off, leaving TA'sSurprised I had asked if I could leave about 1, and was told no, then same person (teacher) told me she was heading off, as she wouldn't drive, so had to walk! A short distance from where I liveYell A flipping mazing. Anyhow, I took off too. Absolutely ridiculous that the Head didn't send a message out to say the school was closing, instead of children could be collected. Very few children were left, and all of the TAs. I ask you. How very dare they? Hehe. Arrived home about 2.30. C dressed in lots of clothes and went out to play in the 'winter wonderland' I watched happily from the window.

Louise, hope your toe improves over the weekend. Try and stay off it as much as you can, and hopefully it'll heal faster.

Hope you all have a good weekend. Fingers crossed school will be closed on Monday.

Oooh, C won the wacky day today. All my time and effort paid off then, hehe. Will know what prize he's received on Monday.

I hope everyone is home, dry and set for a cosy weekend, I certainly am! Cool

Hope you get some info on the money side of things, sparkling. Glad you got home safe and sound, I am sure your troop will enjoy the snow even if you don't!

Hazeleyes I am absolutely astounded that the teachers were rushing off and leaving the TAs. My friend in Hampshire managed to work from home today, good job as she had a text from the school saying we are closing at 9.40!!! How ridiculous.Anyway well done to C for winning the prize or should I say well done to mummy for designing the costume Wink

So, we are all on snow watch...it is falling heavily here. PQ good idea of Anna's to get your girls out rolling in the snow. Hope your journey was ok?

My toe is improving but would probably still glow in the dark Frown

Eldest is coming on Sunday. Update on youngest: went out last night to meet with The Girl. He had a peptalk about not drinking too much as she would not be impressed and I said he needed to behave respectfully. Oh dear, he got there and she was "smashed" (his word) and behaving badly herself and he said I am not spending time with you when you are like this (she had other friends there) He said to me "I hate it when girls get like that". I am now waiting for the cloud to pass so I can say "and that is what your behaviour looks like when YOU do it" HA Tongue Out

Really cold indoors, so am going to have to keep the heating on, but it can't be helped. Now, if C was at school, and it was my half day, I would keep myself warm by using the hotty bottle, but can't do that today. Could always get him to keep warm by giving him lots of jobs I guessTongue Out

My lot have been out since goodness knows when. Daughter not impressed as loads of children from other estates have turned up to use the grassy bank by our house to sledge down.  This means they slide down on to the path and make that rather deadly.

I'm hoping for a thaw at least on the path and roads so I can get to work for a quiet few hours.  Not the end of the world if I don't as I can do it next weekend...

It's very pretty outside.

hope you're got the milk safely hazeleyes.

My days of playing in the snow are well gone.  I've had a phobia of falling since I was about 8, but if I was to go down when mucking about, it would be very embarrasing having to call out 22 Sqn to winch me back up...

Morning,

All snowy here. Schools closed here at lunchtime so had to leave work early, lucky I did as it took me ages to get home.

I too realised we had no milk this morning hazeleys. Lucky for me the girls went to the shop for me Smile.

Never got round to starting the new thread yesterday, had a lovely evening with the girls, and its continuing this morning, they even spent their money on some chocolate for me to say sorry about their behaviour this week!!

Going to go out soon and clear the path, not sure how long it will stay clear for as we've got more snow forecast for tomorrow.

Hope you all stay warm.

Pq, that was really lovely of your girls to buy you chocolate. How considerate are they? Bless em. My gorgeous son also went for the milk, so I didn't have to venture out. I do panic in this weather, so it's the first time he's gone round the shop on his own in this. I trust him of course, but the roads are slippery, and I imagine all sorts.

Sparkling, I do hope you get to stay indoors today, don't go out, unless you absolutely need too.

I have no snow at all here although it is very cold (I hate cold!!!). Will be going to the cinema with a friend in an hour to see Quartett.

Other than that I am preparing for start of placement on Monday and brushing up on what I know about the heart and related illnesses.

Oh, and I am laughing at everyone panicking about a little bit of snow. Hazeleyes, why does it frighten you? It's not huge amounts! Especially in Wales and in Scotland where you have what you call mountains (I call them hills, it's the sort of landscape I grew up in) you should be used to more snow! But then, I say this every year and it doesn't make a blinding bit of difference. :-)

Wishing everyone warmth!

Everyone is different though in how they deal with things...  Have to say we've been enjoying the snow this end and I've enjoyed seeing the fb photos.  I think everyone is happier once they're home.

We didn't have any snow here last winter, and really the cost of buying winter tyres is one I can't justify - although I had promised myself some last winter if we had snow for a third winter.  I'm surprised we've had snow here really.  I always used to take the children to the mountains when they were little to play in the snow.  Its just sensible being careful now...

I should be finishing off a chest of drawers that the middle two started to put together for my room.

I'm sure the placement will go well next week hopeful.

I'm snuggled inside with J who flat out refused to go to his dads this morning. He was poorly yesterday. I got to the after school club to fetch him and they had him wrapped in a foil blanket with a cup of tea trying to get him warm. Turns out for fun in the snow the teachers hadn't bothered to put his thermal underwear on and had sent him out in the snow in a t shirt and jeans (And his coat etc). He then had to walk to the after school club in the snow. The staff said all the children from his school had come in half frozen. Also turns out he'd been complaining of tummy ache all day and all the teacher told him to do was go and have a wee. He didn't eat any of his lunch and told them he felt sick, but he said they wouldn't listen. One of his teachers picks her child up from Afterschool and she could see that I wasn't happy. You should have seen the state of him. Had a bad night with him running a temp of 38 and tossing and turning and this morning he just didn't want to go to his dads. When ex came to fetch him he sat on my knee crying. Felt sorry for ex as he looked really upset. He said he could force him to go as he appreciated it was my 'day off'. They just want mummy when they are ill don't they? It's thrown me a bit to be honest, as I usually get all my cleaning and that done while he's not here, but with him being poorly he just wants to be sat on my knee!

Anyone who wants snow I will gladly send them some. Feel like I have shovelled three tonnes off my drive this morning. At least I'll have worked off the biscuits we are about to bake :)

Sorry your son is poorly looby, its rotten when you don't feel well.

I've cleared the snow off the path and put some salt down so hopefully it won't freeze over night. Went for a lovely walk with the girls, took the lids from the recycling  boxes to use as sleds but unfortunately they didn't work very well, they got a few slides so not an 'epic fail' as the girls would say! They've gone out again to play with some friends so I've got some time on my own. Filled my hot water bottle, got out my blanket and going to read my book.

Hope you enjoy Quartet hopeful, I thought it was a lovely gentle film.

J is now bouncing around like a loony! I'm worn out and he's full of life lol.

Some total numpty has taken the corner of our street too fast, lost control and gone straight into my drive gate and new fence. Grrr. Fortunately, he's just knocked the gate off the rollers, but has knocked one of my fence posts out. He's been really good about it and told me to send him the quote to get it repaired and he'll sort it. He wasn't very happy with my neighbours. They always clear the drive all the way across the road. We're the first houses on the street, so you turn onto snow, go onto the bit they have cleared and then have to climb a ramp onto the bit outside my house. Apparently the bit they have cleared has frozen solid and not been gritted. The driver was not happy and  was going to tell neighbour so. I left it with him. I've had lectures off my neighbour before!

Off to try and convince J it's bedtime. He's playing beautifully, but he needs to catch up on some sleep.

Hopeful, it frightens me because of the osteophena, and osteoporosis that I was diagnosed with a few years back. Are you able to get into work Sparkling?

Hi to Anna, if you're around tomorrow.

A good day yesterday, when I say that, I mean no arguments, which is heaven. This morning, I've done the ironing, dinner is in, and just about to make C's bed. Homework was tricky, so I've helped a bit (well researched some) Year 7 work, so am at a complete loss to be honest. C did well on most of the questions, and I'm sure the teacher won't expect all to be correct, as they haven't covered all of it anyway. Snow is still falling here. No doubt the school won't be closed tomorrow, as the gritters are out and about, but doesn't help me with the pavements does it. Dreading it!!

My dad used to have spikes for the bottom of his shoes,a piece of elastic would go over the top of his feet, where you would have a sandal strap and then there was a metal plate with spiky bumps unnder his foot. Is that what you mean sparkling?

Oh PQ I am sorry that you were left to be the messenger and then there were squabbles again. One on hand you could try to ignore it, on the other hand you could say I am sick of your arguing, now let's see what's going on, get a large piece of paper, rule it with a small column with date and time and a large column for cause. Every escalated squabble, you rush in all-important with the paper and say right! date 20th January, time 5 o cloock, cause: tell me in six words...then put it in really silly terms like " A pinched B's ruler" or the most trivial event that happened. Then say oh dear oh dear and Blu Tack the paper to the lounge wall (I have a handy cupboard for "notices") Have it in nice big embarrassing letters and stop in front of it from time to time and shake your head and say oh dear oh dear. Every quarrel gets recorded like this and then you sit down at the end of a week or three days or however long your nerve holds and show them the list. Shame is a very effective strategy!

Good that you had a peaceful Saturday,Hazleyes. Looby, is J better?

The area of my toe that is painful is TINY but still very very sore, might be able to pad it out tomorrow and put my nose outside the door, have been housebound without shoes.

I got to the car with youngest on one side and daughter on the other.  Went to Asda and then dropped youngest off.  Had bought some goodies for the office but youngest brought the bag into the house...  Not good as I've not even had breakfast yet.

Got into the office - looks very pretty by there.  I parked on tyre tracks and didn't go into the snow... just in case and all that.

Colleague called in for a bit too.  I didn't get much done though to think I was there for a three hours.  I have told my collegue I won't be in tomorrow.  Far too much of a coward.

Got home and oldest, daughter and youngest have helped me down to the house!!  Anyone would think I had a phobia of **ahem** falling...

The main roads are really clear here, which is good, although a friend of mine made a comment on fb to say that they hadn't gritted along her road - which happens to be where the fire brigade and ambulance stations are based.  Her brother-in-law drives the gritting lorries and so I wonder if they got that sorted!

Youngest is home here.  The council site said the school was closed as did the council's facebook page.  I have to say that teh snow is melting very quickly here in the sun.

I'm just hoping for a clear path to get to the car for work tomorrow!

Seventeen year old is poorly, which is rather unusual.  He's done the shivering and is aching.  He has a headache, but no sore throat or runny nose...  I don't think its flu.  Trying to phone college though to say he was ill was impossible, although I did get to leave a message in the end.

Now we can see the mountains, they look very pretty, but very hazy.

I hope you've been able to manage with a microwave kiera.  Or better still that they've been out.

Hope your son gets over whatever  it is Sparkling. Sounds a bit like the flu though doesn't it?

Lots of chatter about the new woman, and we all seem to be of the same opinion. Steer clear as much as we can. Ducking and diving is rather fun. As she came down one corridor, I went up anotherTongue Out Seems as if we're going to giving lots more to do, in way of paper work, which isn't going down too well. We have a fair bit to do already, plus marking test papers too, which I've been told is the actual teacher's job!! What did they do in the 'olden' days, before computers and TA's, hehe. New woman also made a passing comment about all staff being in school for 8.30, but when someone commented that our pay starts from 9, there was no response backTongue Out I can see trouble ahead, with a capital T

Good morning all

Hope everyone is well. How is your boy, sparkling? Kiera has your gas been repaired? If you have a child under 5 I thought that was a priority?

Hazeleyes it sounds as if school was a bit of a damp squib yesterday. Are you supposed to be there all day today?

PQ hope you are feeling a bit brighter, sending you a giant HUG.

Hopeful, what placement news?

I managed to get outside yesterday as my toe has finally settled down enough for me to wear shoes. Took eldest out for brunch and we had two posh coffees each Smile He is here till Thursday.Hoping there will be no more snow, wish it would just GO AWAY (Sorry to those who enjoy it) Counselling later, but only got one client, also got to take laptop in for a repair as the space bar is wonky.

Look forward to your updates!

Have been having a bit of a wobbly time, but feeling a bit brighter today.

The snow here is lingering, we need a good downpour to get rid of it!

Louise glad you're not house bound anymore, I hate being stuck indoors too long.

Kiera, what an awful time of year to be without heating, I can't believe you're not considered a priority. My neighbour's grandma had this problem before xmas, the council didn't consider her a priority, even though she's in her mid 80's, my neighbour contaced the local paper to see if they could help, they rang the council and a heating engineer was round the house within the hour!

Hi all, just nipping in to show my face, I haven't had the chance to read all the gossip around the coffee table the last few days. I have to get my final assignments in for my college course. Two weeks today and counting....aaaagggghhhh!

No, I can do this! All is well! Right off home to keep writing!

I hope everyone has a lovely evening. Laughing

No snow today yay! Had a snow day yesterday as J's school was closed. We had fun playing out in the garden. I cleared the snow from the drive and J used the pile I made to go 'sledging' using a black bag as a sledge. He had a brill time.

Good luck with the assignments Anna and hope your heating has been sorted Keira, hope you're having a good day pq and hello to everyone else.

Hi all, glad the snow is not too bad. Sorry I can't catch up properly, but I am a bit tired. Worked a late shift yesterday (8 hours) and a long day today (7:30 till 20:00). I love it - especially today, as people were off sick and the ward was understaffed and I had to jump in the deep end.

I have a day off tomorrow (before two more long days), but I'll have to start looking at those assignments now. :-) Anna, you will know all about this!

Keira, I hope your heating is fixed!

Hope everyone is ok!
