What a crazy day! This work business definitely gets in the way sometimes
Hi everyone
sparklinglime - finishing at 6.30pm, phew you must have been tired, I hope your helpful teens had prepared a delicious supper and laid the table!!
Looby your day with J sounded great and I am sure just what he needed some quality mum and J time. Who needs expensive toboggans when you can get black bags!!
pq - glad you had a good day yesterday, I love the phrase 'pleasant evening', sounds delightful!
Hopeful, you must be feeling exhausted, but it sounds as though it is just what you needed! You thrive on busy-ness! Good luck with your assignments, aren't they just a dream!
I managed to get some good work done last night, thank you for your well wishes Tonight I am watching Sun Sex and Suspicious Parents in Zante on iplayer with my daughter as her and 3 friends have booked a trip there in June. I know my daughter is pretty sensible, but I know that I will be cringing!! I have already given her a million top tips and rules to stick by, but I am sure this programme will add on a few more!
Have a good evening everyone :)
Yes, pq, work does get in the way at times I have to say though that the main reason I was at work so late was that the plumbers were arriving back and we were chatting! I did walk out in the end.
Today I had the excuse of going to pick up MiL from the station. My phone was on silent, and it was only when I was sitting in the car that I read her text to say the train had been delayed. I came home... I did think about going back into the office, but heck, I had said goodbye!
I hope the car went ok Louise, and hope your toe is all better by now.
I hope assignments are going well.
I hope everyone is keeping warm and safe.
Morning everyone, how are you all?
My little car did start yesterday and I think it was glad of a run out after sitting there so long.
My son went to Zante in 2011 Anna and had a great time. Tell your daughter not to fall for buying a ticket for the "white night", you pay for the ticket, you have to pay again on the door, drinks are expensive and it wasn't very good! My son is going to Malia on Crete this year, I love that Sun Sea and Suspicious Parents programme. Youngest said "if you ever went on that, I would leave home" "AHA" I said. He thought for a moment and said "Ok then, if you ever went on there I WOULDN'T leave home"
How old is your daughter Anna? I am already fretting about my daughter wanting to go abroad for the first time (she's only 12!). I've watched some of those documentaries and they're a real eye opener. Good idea to watch the programme together, I will have to remember that.
I got some money for xmas so I'm going to treat myself to a kindle, the girls are with their dad after school so I'm going shopping after work, I'm so excited
Hi all
sparklinglime, glad that you chose to go home rather than back into work! did you get to see your mother in law?
Louise I shall pass on the White Night story, my daughter wanted to go to Malia, just so they could say Ooh-Ahh Mal-i-Yah!
Hi pq, my daughter is 18 (eek!) Bizarre I know, even when I think it! I am excited for my daughter going away, she is pretty sensible though, i am more worried about her having to deal with her friends shennanigans!
After watching the S,S & SP programme, i suddenly felt sad that our children are really missing out. When I was 18 I went with a friend to a Greek Island, all I knew of the island was where it was on a map and a couple of photos from a travel brochure. We met lots of different people, hired bikes, toured the island, went snorkelling etc etc, we did party too, but that wasn't the main focus of the holiday.
Watching the programme I realised that this generation are going to miss all of that. Transported from airport to apartment, then they will sit by pool and go to 'the Strip', then recover the next day by the pool, to be ready for another evening of excessive drinking. The girls know where they are staying, they have seen pics of the apartments, figured out the way they need to walk to 'the strip' and after watching the prog, I don't think they will be inspired to do much else. Big shame
I am the proud owner of a kindle, it is lovely
I went on a parenting teenagers talk at work today. It was really good. I learnt some great things and had other things I'd learnt here reaffirmed. Feel all energised to make some changes at home.
Hope everyone else has had a good day
hi my eldest daughter bin malia with mate s, and magaluf and faloraki with mates, i do worry, but she as brilliant tyms, i watch suspicious parents,id probably wnat join in tho with clubbin lol, x
Morning everyone
Hurray you got the kindle, PQ. My friend loves hers. What is the first book you are going to read on it? Also anything to pass on from the teen talk that we haven't mentioned yet? (or do you want to try some things out first and report back if they are effective?)
I did worry when my boy was in Zante and I shall worry again when he is in Malia....I do think it is harder when you have a girl though. Thanks for the chant, Anna, I will be able to annoy my son with that from now until July Kiera I can just imagine how funny it would be if you were watching your daughter and you suddenly leaped out from behind the curtain and joined in the foam party!
How is everyone today? Hello to Hazeleyes, we miss you Are you at work today sparkling? Hopeful, back to placement today? Looby how is your face injury, hope it is doing a lot better.
Eldest is very much on the job-hunting trail, he had two interviews yesterday, one went badly and the other one well and he has a second interview for that job. He has another interview today and one lined up for 4th February, his current job only guarantees 12 hours a week and although he usually gets more, there are lean weeks and it means he struggles to pay the bills.
Good luck to your oldest Louise. It's so hard now.
I'm about to go to work - after my son's glass cabinet arrives. Due here any time now. I might not stay long though as I don't feel too good.
I'm glad your daughter's having a good time kiera.
Hope everyone is ok.
Cabinet is here... So handy it arriving on a friday as son has no college!
Hi Louise,
I set the kindle up last night and bought 'The Coffin Dancer' by Jeffery Deaver. Have you read any of the Lincoln Rhyme novels. I've read a couple from later in the series but decided to start from the begining, I've just read 'the bone collector' which I loved.
The lady from the teen talk, talked a lot about having good relationships with our teens, communicating, listening, being positive, so thats what I'm focusing on at the moment. I'll post more in my thread.
I hope your son's job hunting goes well. Its horrible when you have a bad interview but I think you learn so much from them. I remember when I went for a job interview many years ago, I was working in a pub at the time and had gone to the interview in the middle of one of my shifts. The interview was going fairly well until I noticed the interviewer kept looking at my shoes, I took a sneaky glance down myself and my shoes were filthy, covered in beer splashes! I didn't get the job but I never went to an interview with dirty shoes again.
Got an unexpected day off today as A is ill so not at school. Gives me time to play with my new toy...in between looking after A of course .
Ah yes dirty shoes! I have told son I will get him some smart clothes for interviews. He has shoes and a shirt!!! so trousers and a tie that is not black are needed.
Is The Bone Collector the one that was made into a film, where the detective is bedbound? I enjoyed the film but haven't read the book. I am reading my book club book at the moment, it is a Japanese book that was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize, it is very dull and I am skipping through it.
Sparkling sorry to hear you aren't feeling too well, áre you a bit fluey? Hope you don't stay long at work.
It is trying to snow here GRRRRR
pancakequeen, I loved reading your thread, it was fab to hear how inspired you were by the talk and how many useful tips you picked up. Good for you!
kiera, see if you can get any top tips from your daughter to pass on to mine :)
sparklinglime I hope you are feeling ok and managed to get through the day, and now you are curled up with a hottie and an omelette!
Hi hazeleyes, looby, Hopeful, happy mamma and everyone else who pops in occassionally, I hope you all have a great weekend.
Louise best of luck with your course tomorrow, I bet it will be brilliant, cos I know you will be. Thinking of you
Loving placement. Took on a consultant yesterday who decided she wasn't going to do an angiogram just because it might have got complicated and it was almost five o'clock on a Friday. She was talking to the patient very quietly to tell him, but he was almost deaf so I told her she had to speak up. She did, but talked to him as if he did not only have no hearing, but also no brain. Stupid woman! And if looks could kill I would have dropped dead.
Still a bit busy to catch up on everyone! Maybe tonight. Hope everyone is ok. x
Glad you're loving the placement
I left work at 5pm in the end - colleague was still there!! Dreadful day with one problem after the other, we'd put the phone down and it would ring immediately. Ah well, I survived.
Sat down and slept all evening in the armchair, so when I woke up I went straight to bed. Had a couple of phone calls once I was in bed, which was nice - although I did warn my friends that I might nod off (but didn't...)
It's a lovely sunny morning here. I'm hoping a headache I have will fade!
I hope everyone is ok and if you had snow yesterday that you're all warm and cosy and looking at it through the window...
I might have a kindle day today pq
Glad you are feeling a bit recovered sparkling.
Hopeful HIGH FIVE to you, sometimes these people think they are above everyone else
How is everyone doing? Really deep snow here and so I was awake VERY EARLY (3.48) worrying about whether my teen parent group would happen. I was thinking I would have to cancel and the Counselling Manager said text a few of them, and they all texted back to say they were coming so I got a taxi, could not dig my car out...well it was FAB, what a lovely group and we really got some stuff done and had a lot of laughs to boot. HURRAH.
Hello to PQ, Kiera and Looby. Hazeleyes, missing you!!
Well done for getting to your group, and glad it went well.
My friend who died in September has a programme on the welsh television station on Tuesday evening, following the last few weeks of her life.
I'll be recording it. I'm not sure if I'll every watch it however, the write up alone has had my daughter and I sobbing in each others arms.
Amazing woman, she really was.
Hi sparkling, wow I don't know if I could bear to watch it either. At least if you record it then there will be the opportunity to see it in the future. Grief can strike at odd times and for many years to come. My first baby (the one who was stillborn), I always associate him with the Roberta Flack record "The first time ever I saw your face"...they are now using this record to advertise that David Attenborough Africa series, and so the music comes on with the trailer. I am just glad the series has nearly ended so there won't be many more unexpected side swipes from that music. Anyway, I hope you are well today?
Morning everyone
Pouring with rain here and hooray the only snow left is the piles on the lawns, am totally sick of it, just want to get back to normal. Youngest did a FIFTEEN-hour shift yesterday, someone else was not in so he stayed back. He then zoomed in, ate tea, had a shower and went out for the evening at 11pm just as I was going to bed. Unbelievable.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday. What's for dinner?
I can only imagine how hard that is... xx
Hello everyone,
I agree sparkling. Also you will know if its right to watch the programme about your friend, one day when its not so raw.
Had a nice evning with my ex sil on friday, went out for cocktails...yummy margharitas, her partner took the girls out for pizza so everyone was happy. We stayed the night with them, however when we got back the girls were straight into bickering mode, managed to block it out for most of the time, but its very draining.
Still really loving my kindle. My dad is going to email me some books directly to it, so I shouldn't need to buy anything for a while, technology is amazing.
Snow has finally gone, hurray, hope thats it for this season.
Finally got round to moving some furniture round in my bedroom and got the tv working, filled a bag for the charity shop with clothes I haven't worn in years however the wardrobe doesn't look any less cramped...how does that happen???
Roast chicken for dinner.
Ah PQ probably because you finally hung up every pice of clothing....if you are like me there are a few things draped around the room that should not be! Keep on coping with the bickering, remember the talk you went to
Roast chicken yum. Have you got the slow cooker on, sparkling? I am going to have a bird's eye fish thing, with a herb and garlic coating, just to try it. I was at church this morning, it was nice to catch up with everyone as I didn't go last week.
Hope everyone's days are going well, I am a really happy bunny that the snow has gone
Daughter and I have been to watch our friends in a local panto. Not the best, shall we say, but daughter and I did enter in the spirit of things with ''he's behind you'' and clapped and joined in.
We've been, and it was lovely to see our friends who appreciated us going. Positive review left on fb, perhaps a bit more truthful on here
I have a headace.
Youngest has a streaming cold and is starting to cough. He would have come with us otherwise, but is feeling pretty rotten. I should be seeing my aunt tomorrow, but haven't really felt brilliant all weekend, so I'm going to change it until the following Monday.
I'm glad you had a good time with you SiL pq. It sounds rather nice.
Glad you enjoyed Church Louise.
Hope everyone is surviving the weekend.
Hi all. Just popping in, so just a quick glance. Louise, am sending you big hugs for a post (a few back) Sparkling, do record that about your friend. One day, you will want to sit and watch it, but right now, it's quite raw. Pq, kindles are great, happy reading. Glad your placement is going okay Hopeful. Looby, kiera, Anna, hope you're all okay.
Not great at work, but shall catch up with the news here at some point. In the meantime, hope everyone is well, and had a good weekend. Take care all.
hi ad quiet weekend, went for nice lunch with mate friday,my little girl in nursery then, tuk my kids nice deserts ome with me, snow very bad ere friday and sat, my little gril loves snow,we built snowman in our garden, snow all gon, rainin,my birthday next friday, goin for summat eat with kids in nice restuarant, then got big night planned with my daughter, goin to posh bar what footballers go to, lol cant wait, getin new dress ,new shoes, daughter doin my hair and makeup, ope everyone is okx
Hi All
Just popping in to see what your all up too and it's gone quiet, i hope your all well?
Hazeleyes i hope nothing to bad happened at work?
Louise i hope you enjoyed your day off, did you do anything nice?
Great your birthday is this week keira and it sounds like you have a great night planned and are going to be busy shopping for a new outfit, i'm awful at shopping i find it difficult deciding what i'm going to get and after trawling loads of shops usually end up back at one of the first shops i went in
Wishing you all have a good week
Sally, you sound like me when I go shopping! Work is stressed at the moment with the new woman on board. She's upsetting lots of people, including me, and this week, though only on Monday, is proving no different than last Absolutely pouring down here, but rather this than the snow. Hope you all have a good evening, and you're all well.
hi well get my outfit and shoes and bag online, and when i do go shoppin i rush and dont try anythin on, i get everythin on line, easierx
I've not been clothes shopping for ages....well not for myself anyway!
Didn't get much sleep last night so off to bed now.
Good morning hope you are all well, how are the sniffles in your house, sparkling? Glad you enjoyed the panto.
Hazeleyes lovely to see you, sorry to hear the new lady is stressing you out, do look after yourself.I was doing a dance of glee that the snow had gone.
PQ hope you got a better night How are you getting on with the Kindle?
Kiera you have a lot going on, birthday coming HURRAH. I do most of my shopping online too.
Sally are you a shoe fan? The thing I like buying is new tops I had my usual posh coffee yesterday and did a load of errands, could not do many last week because of the weather and bad toe (now 90% better) Also I went to the cinema to see Lincoln. Daniel Day Lewis was brilliant in the part. There was only one dull bit, about 50 minutes in...that is when I nodded off haha. We had reserved seats for the cinema, you have to pay extra...got there to find OAPs sat there. I was cross but just said "oh, what number are your seats please?" they said we didn't know they were numbered, I said well when you pre book a premier seat you get the number, they obviously had not paid extra but anyway they shifted right down the row. They left before the end of the film as well, he with his flat cap and she with a very, very noisy rustling carrier bag.
hi louise cud u go on my thread please, yes my birthday friday, lukin forward to it,lukin forward to seein my daughter as well not seen er since jan2ndx
Morning all, had a better night's sleep but have woken with a cold...boooo!
I love, love, love my kindle louise, its reignited my love of reading again
Aha PQ that means it is a good name, you have re-KINDLED your reading haha
Hi kiera, I always read every thread so have been on yours, hope you can stay calm today, it really is one step at a time and concentrate on the positives.
Been to get a congratulations card for eldest...he was offered a really good job yesterday. I am so glad, he has been struggling so much moneywise and this is a really great chance for him now with one of the big banks, he is thrilled. Youngest is off this week, so that will be mainly sleeping and rather too much beer, unfortunately. Counselling for me this aft, have two clients.
Sorry sorry sorry I've not been here! And this is only a quick pop-in to give an update. I am having my interview today at 2:20 so wish me luck! Placement is still great. Still fighting No 3 son's attitude. Oh, and I got the result of the essay I handed in just before I went sick and I passed. That is a very mixed blessing because I only just scraped through and I wanted a first at the end of it all. Am asking uni if I can resubmit despite passing.
Have noticed you were discussing daughters / children going abroad and dreading it. My daughter went to Portugal last year (she was 13) with church and had a great time. Then she went to my mum's in Germany on the plane by herself. I was a bit worried about the 'by herself on a plane' bit, but I needn't have been. So proud of her! :-)
Hope everyone is ok! Hugsnstuff xxx
Dear Hopeful,
Very quick visit here. Hope your intervew will go well.
Hi everyone! Nice to see you hear KT, lurve your avatar!
Hopeful I hope your interview went well, my daughter has been abroad before on her own and I completely trust her, just not so trustworthy of all the other youngsters on a boozy holiday, with no desire to explore and have adventures, just drink the day and night away!!
pq, glad you had a good nights sleep, sorry to hear that you woke with a cold though. Does that mean you have to have an early night with your Kindle then! Great book to look at 'How to be a Woman' by Caitlin Moran....
kiera its your birthday week, have your clothes arrived? I hate online shopping, the clothes never fit, or look as good as they did in the catalogue, different material, shape etc, so it is not the thing for me! I have found though when I go clothes shopping, I always buy the same things! Ha!
Hi hazeleyes, lovely to see you, I hope you and C are tucked in for tonight out of the rain.
Hi sparklinglime, wherever you may be, you haven't been in here for a couple of days, I hope all is well with you.
Big waves to everyone else, have a great evening.
I'm delighted for your son Louise. Congratulations from me as well.
I hope the interview went well hopeful.
I hope the cold isn't too bad pq.
I hope you've been able to be extra nice to nasty new one hazeleyes - nasty people don't cope very well with nice at least the ones I worked with in Tesco couldn't...
The weather is awful here. Torrential rain and gales - but that seems to have been normal for us, other than the break for snow!
Interview went ok, I think. :-) So now we wait till late Feb/early March to find out our offers. I think it works in my favour that I've said I will be able to work from June, not April.
Well done to your son, Louise! It's so worrying, isn't it, till they're actually in a proper job. I am tearing my hair out over my lot....
Going to the cinema tonight, other girls want to see Quartet and I didn't have the heart to say no. Long day (7:30 - 20:00) tomorrow, so won't come here....
hi ive ordered lipsy black lace playsuit, black heeled strappy shoes, and new black clutch bag, x
I watched it. I don't think I should have really. Mil phoned after it had finished. She was in tears.
She really was an amazing woman. Loved by many and so so missed.
Morning all. Awww Sparkling, am sure that was upsetting for everyone that knew her.
A massive congratulations for your son Louise. Immensely proud of him I'm sure.
Hopeful, hope you received some good news regarding the interview.
Pq, how are you feeling this morning?
Kiera, hope you have a great birthday (if I'm not on line to wish you so again)
Waving to Anna. How's things with you and your daughter?
Well, I got the surprise of my life last night. Took C for something to eat after swimming. We were enjoying the meal, and having a lovely conversation, when I nearly choked. Heard the voice first, then saw him. The Sperm doner!!! The mother sat RIGHT behind C, and then he went off somewhere round the supermarket. At first I froze, not knowing what to do, and knowing I needed to get out fast. So, I stood up, grabbed my coat, and told C we had to go. Bless him, he hadn't quite finished either, but.... Grabbed the bags, and practically dragged poor C further away, with him asking me what was wrong. All I could think to say was the woman sat behind him looked like she had NITS and I couldn't risk her not leaning back on to his hair!!! I was shaking so much I can't begin to tell you. Now, the question is, is he back for a short holiday, or for good? Also got to be careful of bumping into him round here, as of course his mother lives a spit away.
Other news, have got an observation today, and am bricking it to be honest. More so than before, as the new woman is also observing. Others that have had theirs said it was awful, so stay tuned.......
Apart from that, C and I are great. Looking forward to the break up from school in a few weeks, and counting the days.
Hope you all have a good day, and keep dry!
Xxx
Hello one and all
Hope everyone is Ok this morning. PQ how is your cold?
Hazeleyes what a shock for you!!!! of course it has set you wondering but you and C are entitled to live your lives as you wish, whether he is in the area or not. It's really important not to let him dictate to you how you live your life. Good luck for the observation. It's helpful that you know that other have had less than encouraging feedback. In this way, if you get some too you can think "well, it's not me, it's HER"
Sparkling you were very brave to watch the programme. In a way, I am thinking "good to face it" otherwise it might have niggled at you, wondering and wondering and whether to watch the recording etc. The "ripping off the elastoplast" method is sometimes best!
Hi KT, you are always welcome here
Hopeful WELL DONE you and let's hope they see sense and welcome you with open arms to what you want to do. I know what you mean about the jobs thing, eldest texted me last night and said how does it feel to finally get both your boys into fulltime decent jobs? (I thought it feels as if I am about 100 ) Did you enjoy the film?
Kiera your outfit sounds very glam! I got a really nice top from an ebay shop! New, not second hand, but really good price and I love the colour.
Housegroup for me last night. We each had a piece of paper, wrote our names on it and passed it round and had to write something about the person on it....it was supposed to relate to how we saw God in them etc but it turned into general remarks....each person ended up with a list of nice compliments, I shed a few tears when I got mine back....made me realise how SELDOM we tell people how much we value and care for them so here is the thing:
ONE SPACERS ARE ALL FAB, AND YOU ARE VERY IMPORTANT AND SPECIAL TO US
Awww Louise... I feel like 100 just getting three out of four out of bed!!
Hi All,
My cold has really taken a hold of me, didn't sleep well last night, but managed to drag myself into work today. Still having major disruptions in the house, the atmosphere switches from calm to horrendous in the blink of an eye.
Great news about your son louise, you must be so proud.
Hazeleyes I can see how you would have been shocked. What would he have done if he saw you?
Ooh sorry you're still not well PQ, is there something you can take? I am a great believer in LemSip although it is completely revolting, it does seem to do the trick for me.
Sparkling, you are doing a sterling job
Yes, dosed up on beechams cold stuff (like lemsip) and berocca. I feel like my eyes are going to pop out of my head!!
Awww Pq, hope you feel better real soon, and that the girls behave themselves for you. Nothing worse than a child playing up, when you're not well. I honestly don't know what he would have done, had he seen us. He could have made a beeline for C, though that is doubtful, with his mother being there (she's never met C) He could have ignored us, then perhaps turned up on our doorstep later. Of course, he still could, but one thing is for sure, he won't get through it
Louise, you deserve all the lovely things that were said about you You're a fab person. Seeing him totally through me, and I really wouldn't want to bump into him, more so if C was with me (don't think C would recognise him, and he certainly wouldn't recognise C if he was in the shop without me)
Sparkling, hope you managed to get them all out of the bed in the end
Observation went okay (I think) Head sat at my table, so I was perspiring slightly hehe. The woman didn't come in (thankfully) No feedback as yet, but hopefully all was well. Shall try and find out when I head back to school in a bit.
Glad the head sat with you. Clearly she's in awe of you already
Hello everyone
Ooh Hopeful no wonder you were tired but sounds as if you are really enjoying it
Anna: assignments, you have my sympathy
Sparkling I will probably have to look at you through my imaginary glasses if you work too hard
Looby great that J is enjoying the snow
PQ glad things have settled a bit. Our snow is also lingering. I am driving to see my friend today provided the car starts as it has been standing there for a week due to not being able to drive with bad toe, now lots better by the way.
Hazeleyes how are you? Kiera have you got some heating now?
