March 2013 Chat

DoppleMe

Finally managed to dig my car out this morning. My poor little Corsa was the size of a transit van with piled up snow. Some of the drifts were a good two feet deep. Lets hope this has been the last of it.

Took j to a shopping centre today to spend the last of his birthday money. One of my friends came along with us. We went to a harvester for lunch and I have no idea how j managed to eat so much food. He normally has such a small appetite. I'll probably find that his clothes don't fit him in a couple of weeks. We spent a pleasant hour in the Lego shop and I managed not to get told off this time. He even voluntarily had his hair cut. We walked past a hairdressers and he said 'i'd like my hair cutting there', so in we went. He is such a poser when he is sat in front of the mirror though!

Busy week at work this week. Last payroll of the year and then getting ready for RTI. It's also the company year end so there is a major stock take :-(

I'm only having Monday off for Easter. As J is with his dad for the week, I've said I will work the other bank holiday and have the day at some other time. I plan on chilling while J is with his dad. I have to work some extra hours to make some time up, but I want to catch up on some much needed sleep! J came back from his dads today worrying about his holiday there next week. As ex was leaving he said to J, next time you are coming for lots of sleepovers. J looked at him and said, but I think I will miss my mummy too much and I will never see her and I will be sad. We hastened to reassure him that he could phone me and he would see me again!

Sparkling, sorry you're feeling down, sending a hug your way Kiss. I know what you mean about your daughter falling, I find seeing any adult falling over distressing, it just looks so awful!

Hazeleyes, I know how you're feeling, but you're right to be strong and stick to your plan.

Louise, I can't remember the last time I had a dream, yours sound most entertaining.

Well I haven't ventured outside today, decided it was far too cold! The girls went out this morning to play in the snow but they only lasted about 15 mins. Can't wait for the easter break, I'm feeling weary.

I hate year end with the payroll looby.  I'm going in on Friday to do that.  I've 'bought' the new payroll stuff too, but it reckons my password is wrong and won't let me access it - but I know the password is right...  I wrote it down.

In work this morning, as colleague has to take her daughter to hospital - its sad, so while I'm not happy, I do understand.  I have loads to do today too, so have to finish before noon.  I'm running a scout safety training thing tonight, but have forgotten to pick up a laptop and projector.  I just hope those who have it are in.  I've emailed, texted and left a message on their phone.

Beautiful sunny morning here.

Thank you for your kind words.  I just feel that there's a lot against us at the moment, with issues with my oldest and seventeen year old.  Seventeen year old just doesn't "get it" with college work or work...

Ah well.  At least the office will be lovely and warm!

Boss is back too.  Not looking forward to seeing him...

Good morning sparklinglime, what a wretched few days you have been having, what with your neighbour, your daughter falling, your feelings of loss and your boys causing you concern, you really are having a tough one and now, work to do, scout safety training tonight and boss being around. I think you need some TLC, so please do something kind and gentle for yourself.

Hi to everyone else, I hope you are having a good Monday. We haven't seen any snow, so it is bizarre reading that you had 6 inches Louise!

I had a lovely gift from the boss.  Tea light holders.

My colleauge's daughter had a miscarriage over the weekend.  My colleague's birthday tomorrow, so I'll get her some flowers on the way in, as they've been waiting three weeks for this to happen.  So very sad.

The laptop and projector are in my boot, so a few hours now to make sure I have everything ready - and tough if I don't.

I can't quite think of anything nice and gentle - perhaps after the payroll is all finished.  I'd really like to resign again at the moment - just to afraid to.

Have a hot chocolate pq...

It's freezing here, even with the heater on, and the electric fire, but to be fair, it is usually a warm little house.

I think that's the main advantage of work, while the unit may be cold our office is lovely and warm!

Hi sparklinglime, I am glad that you have the laptop and projector in the car, you are set to go, do you have hat, gloves and scarf too if you are in the scout hut? Brrrr! Something nice and gentle for you, a cup of hot chocolate (as prescribed for pq!), an omelette then your favourite TV shows with blanket and fire on!

Warm bath pancakequeen?? My favourite thing after a day in the office, if the temperature has been lower than usual. Half an hour bath, change into joggers, supper on, then cosy up with the telly. Thats my plan anyway! Wink

I hope everyone else is well, its very quiet in here, catch up more tomorrow :)

Hope everyone is keeping warm on this extremely cold night (when is it going to end?) Work was okay, finished at lunchtime, shopped, then back to get little man. Forgot some bits at shops, so back againYell Once indoors, ran a lovely hot bubbly bath, into PJ's, dinner, dishes, and now I'm relaxing watching Corrie. Shall watch the second episode in bed, tucked up with water bottle. Bliss.

Good morning all and hope everyone got warm in the end, your recipe for a cold night sounded fab Anna. Personally I favour some jumping jacks and a hot water bottle (as I do not have a bath here, only a shower)

How did it go, sparkling? I know that wanting to resign (ie run away) feeling, hope it passes soon. Sorry to hear about your colleague's daughter....so hard. I would just like to say, however, that you have made a real friend from this new colleague, haven't you? Sometimes it can feel as if there are too many issues going on in our lives and I guess what I would say is don't try to deal with them all at once. Sometimes the best decision is not to make a decision, if you see what I mean Kiss

Hazleyes yes I have been following Corrie, the fire and now the court case. Do you think Kirsty will suddenly "crack" especially now that Julie has seen her other side?

PQ I hope you are warmer today. I was going to say let's have a thread about our dreams but if I am the only one who has any weird ones then no point! I have lots of dreams...or should I say I remember mine, I am sure we all have them, I have silly adventures in mine. The other night I went to work for a top psychologist and was doing her admin so I could learn more. There was a client who came to see her that had a phobia of eveything going mouldy and another client called Mrs Worrisome, great name!

Looby has J been OK since getting back from his dad's? The others have given you some good ideas for when he goes away.

How's everyone today? Most of the snow has melted here although it is still thick on the gardens and we are having snow showers this morning but not laying SO FAR

Still no snow here, I find it so bizarre that you see it every morning Louise!

You really do have weird dreams, don't you Louise. I quite like the idea of having a thread on the subject, just so I could hear more about yours!

Mine are no way as interesting, last night I dreamt that I was in a craft shop and an old school friend of mine owned it - I haven't seen or even thought of this person in years so very strange! - she had a little boy and they were travellers. The little boy was really nice and helping me - and that is all I can remember.....what does it all mean!

hazeleyes, glad that school can and went without okay yesterday. I can't believe it is the holidays again so soon! When does C break up? Thursday?

Hi everyone else, happy Tuesday :)

My colleague's birthday, so I got a card, a cake, an orchid, pack of ball point pens (plumbers keep running off with ours) and a note book.

Cake was lovely, and so nice to have a chance to stop and chat.

I left early to take my lads for a haircut, and then we had a nice afternoon.  Shows that if I could finish at 2pm, it would mean time with my lot - even if I only did it in holidays.

I ordered some on offer easter eggs and they'll be delivered to the office.  One for my colleague and boss. I'll be having a nicer egg than my children this year Laughing

Breaking heart with the 17 year old at the moment, hearing his dreams...

I'm glad the snow's melting Louise.  Shocking news reports from some parts of the country.  A couple of inches can be fun, but this is terrible.  We've had flurries here again today, but they come to nothing.

Ho hum.

I have a sore throat.

Hello everyone and hope today will go well. Yes, it is snowing here again as I type and I am hoping it will soon stop as I am out and about shortly.

I had the worst night's sleep ever!! Took ages to get to sleep and woke almost immediately, was stll wakeful at 4am waaaaah. Still, that should mean a nice early one tonight Wink No silly dreams to report as was not asleep for long enough.

Sorry to hear about your son's dreams, sparkling. Sure your colleague loved the cake and the gifts Laughing As for your sore throat, I will have to look at you through my imaginary glasses if it DARES creep up on you Yell

I'm counting Louise!

Went to C's string festival last night, and it was absolutely amazing. It was fantastic, and I was so proud of him. Some difficult pieces to play, so the children were brilliant. If there were any slipups, then it certainly wasn't noticable. C had been at rehearsals all day, so was shattered by the time we got home at 9am. On such a high though, that it took an age for him to go to sleep. Headmaster praised him this morning, and agreed with me that it was excellent.

Sorry, you had a bad night sleep Louise, hopefully, you'll get that early night tonight. Bitterly cold here, but at least we don't have the white stuff.

Sparkling, that was nice of you to get colleague the cake etc. I know you're having thoughts about resigning, but Louise is right, the best decision is not to make one just yet.

Waves to everyone in the chat room.

Lots going on at work. We're all trying to rise above this woman, but believe me it is very hard. She has this way, it's quite intimidating really, and she is a bully, no doubt about it. Roll on tomorrow. Rent, council tax etc have gone up, and I'm finding things a bit of a struggle really. Need to sit and work out finances, and get to grips with things. As it stands at the moment, by the time some of the bills have been paid, I'm left with £30 from pay packet (sigh)

Hi hazeleyes, I know that feeling, although it seems like all we do is work to pay the bills, we have to remember it gets us out of the house, keeps our brain occupied and that we are helping the world go round!

C's festival sounded great! I was going to write Spring, as I thought you had mis spelt, however I am now wondering if it IS String and all the children were playing stringed instruments?

No snow with us either thank goodness although it is bitterly cold.

sparklinglime, i love it that you bought your colleague a pack of ball point pens, that really tickled me Kiss I hope you have gone out and got yourself some Tunes or something similar? I have a bottle of glycerin at home, that you take tiny sips and that seems to soothe very well for me.

Louise, I hope that you manage to get out today. Its a shame you can't just cancel everything, put the fire on and watch a film....or is that the plan for tonight?

I hope everyone else reading this thread is well and not getting down about the weather. Only one more day before the long weekend - yeehah!

Hi Anna. C plays the violin, hence the string festival, and not spring festival hehe.

Louise, didn't answer your question about Corrie earlier (sorry) I think that the truth will come out now Julie has seen a different side to Kirsty. I was even thinking along the lines of the Mum standing up in court. However now I'm thinking (no wonder my brain hurts lol) that Kirsty will visit Tyrone, own up, and he'll not make a statement regarding her treatment of him, on the condition that she sign over rights to Ruby, allowing her visitation rights (cos he's lovely) Of course, she has committed perjury so she'll probably get off with a warning, or do a couple of months inside. On her release, her and her Mum will set off into the distance. Knew I was wasted with my hidden talents, should have been a scriptwriter. Wouldn't worry about money then AnnaWink

Well done C Smile

Same with council tax and water rates here.  Struggling, but then eldest still doesn't have many hours, which doesn't help.

We had a good laugh at work today, and it's boss's birthday on Sunday, so trying to work out what you can get someone who has everything.  Colleague and his son (he's a plumber too) are talking about getting a round of golf somewhere... Hope its somewhere cheap!!  Cool

Easter eggs sorted for this lot, although they want to get a couple for their friends.  I've been very generous with them - 99p ones on offer in Morrisons.  MiL has had a thorntons one though - and she's bought me one too!  Popped in to see her after work, but didn't stay too long as you could see the snow coming over.

It did snow, but had melted before it even stopped, thank goodness.  It can snow a bit on Sunday, if it has to, so the dog can have a play in it.

Hi All,

Not been well the last day or 2. Got really cold at work on Monday which made me feel ill, but it soon became obvious that something else was going on, ended up with a fever and a nasty tummy bug. Everything has settled now but still feel a bit week and wobbly. The girls helped me out a lot, especially yesterday as I felt so nauseous all I could do was lie very still in bed. A is now complaining of feeling sick so I hope she isn't coming down with it, she has a big phobia of being sick.

Hope everyone else is OK. It was lovely to hear about C's string festival hazeleyes, I hear how proud you were of him.

I've really cut back on easter eggs this year, A still had one left after christmas, they get so many!!

The snow has almost melted, thank goodness! No more please.

Hello everyone

PQ sorry you have been poorly, there is a horrid bug going round at the moment and two of the wards in the hospital here are closed. How is your thumb? Hope the girls escape the bug though it is a bit unlikely, these things spread like wildfire.

Hazeleyes, that's a good theory about Corrie, I watched last night and things are certainly beginning to cruumble. I am a bit sick of the Carl-Stella-Jason thing now. The concert sounds fab! is it the violin that C plays? Money not good Cry Sometimes budgest just don't work. Last day at work today, on the bright side!

Sparkling glad the Easter eggs are all sorted. Mine do not get them anymore (their choice) but I have got one this year, a Fairtrade one that has an Easter activity inside about the resurrection of Jesus, for kids to do. I was given the egg by the counselling place where I work. Could you get your boss a round of "crazy golf"? haha.

Hello to everyone else in the chatroom. Anna, I didn't ask you if you had any plans over Easter, my eldest is coming so that will sort me out! Smile

We have had more snow overnight but luckily only a powdery covering. I got out yesterday and there was snow all day but it melted as it hit the ground. Have night out tonight with three friends so that should be good. Slept much better so should even be able to stay awake, heh heh. Last night's dream very patchy but I was a member of a Resistance Army and it mostly involved me running away from being shot Cool

Hope everyone will have a good day

I love the idea of crazy golf, but possibly the recipient wouldn't be Cool

I keep thinking its Friday, and nearly didn't get up (had a shower at 4am and then went back to bed to watch the news but fell asleep).  No one would be too impressed if I didn't go in as I need to do the wages!!

Still no news about my neighbour, and must phone her son.  I was going to yesterday, but nodded off.  I want to see my 'other'  neighbour's daughter to let her know too, so might phone the son from work (they have quite a difficult job to get the timing right though).

There were snow flakes fluttering down from the sky when I did get up, and a dusting too, but that's melted.  We've had a lot of these gentle snow flakes - all day Saturday - which either blow away or melt.

Last day of school for many Smile

PQ - I do hope you're feeling better and no one else gets it. I'm glad the girls looked after you too.

hazeleyes I remember us having a conversation about C playing the violin ages ago, he is still at it? Excellent! My daughter did it for about a year and a bit then stopped as she didn't like practising, I have to say I wasn't too upset! Hey and you know what? It is never to late to be a script writer

sparklinglime, I liked Louise's suggestion of mini golf, but like you said, I guess that won't go down so well with your boss! I too woke up thinking it was Friday, only just remember about half an hour ago that it is Thurs and I have yoga this eve!

Get Well Soon pq, I hope you have a super week off, much needed and much deserved. Trick to stop your children getting ill.........tell them they can't have any chocolate til they are better!

kiera it sounds as though you have got a great weekend lined up. You are catching up wtih your girls on Friday brilliant! You missed it last time, I hope you have a good night out, but behave yourself! Wink

Louise, tomorrow I have the day to myself - phew! Wonderful! Then I am going to the Lido on Saturday for morning swim and lunch for friends 40th, it will be really nice, very swanky place and then over Sun and Mon I am seeing family. So all in all a very nice long weekend planned.

Taking C into town. He wants to look at telescopes! When he was about 5, I bought him a very cheap one from Argos, thinking it was a phase he was going through, but that phase (like the violin) is still going strong. For all of his hard work this school year, I told him I would buy him a 'proper' one. Shall check out the prices in various shops. Have looked online as well.

Bright here too, but still cold (well, I am anyway) Before we left for town, I rang the shop number listed, and got through to Head Office. Imagine my annoyance when I was informed by shop itself, they don't sell telescopes in that branchYell Off we went to Argos (ever faithful shop) and we managed to get hold of a cheaper one. Hi Poppy10 great to see you in the chatroom, wow that is spooky about that particular night, it wasn't even a full moon heh heh. You made the most of your time with the Easter cakes...Smile I was amazed that I kept going till 10.30 that night. Hope you are having a good Easter weekend?

Hi Hazeleyes, did C get a chance to use the telescope last night? Do you remember those I-Spy books that were popular when we were children? I think they still make them, anyway there is a Sky At Night one and you can tick off all the constellations and learn about the stars.

Good morning to everyone, how are you and what are you up to? Eldest is arriving today so have to sort his room. I have a very dear friend who is spending the long weekend with a large group of extended family from her husband's side and she is hating every moment......I  wanted to mention it as so many of us (including me in the past!) yearn for the big family thing and IMAGINE that everyone is having a fab time on Bank Holidays. For me, one of the biggest advantages of getting divorced was ditching the in- laws. I know there are some of you who have a good relationship with yours (sparkling) but I wasn't one of them

Thanks for the reminder about the clocks Louise, I had completely forgotten!

Well I had a total relapse after my morning at work on Thursday. I was really upset as I had friends coming yesterday which I had to cancel. However I am feeling better again today and actually felt hungry this morning which is a first since Monday, so fingers crossed I am well and truely rid of that horrible bug. My friend thinks I picked up norovirus but who knows. I am now focusing on my brother and family who will be arriving tomorrow for a few days. My youngest niece who is 7 is full on so I will need all my strength!

I bet you're looking forward to your son coming Louise, I can't imagine what it will be like once my girls have left home, even though I wish it sometimes...lol!

Hazeleyes, my brother had a telescope when he was a boy, he never grew out of it and has got an even bigger one now he is an adult. He got so much pleasure out of it and is so knowledgable about the stars. Louise's suggestion of the book is good, that way he will know what he's looking at.

The girls are out with their dad today so I have a day to myself. I need to go food shopping as the cupboards are completely bare. I was looking for something to give the girls for dinner last night and all I could find was a tin of Mulligatawny soup and some gherkins!! Couldn't understand why they suddenly didn't feel hungry anymore Wink

Have a good day everyone x

Pq, glad you're better again. Hope you don't have another relapse. Look after yourself, and have a rest today without the girls, for a few hours at least.

Not a good start to hols. C is really poorly. Yesterday started with a sore throat, and woke me at 3 this morning, saying how bad it was. Nurofen at the ready, plus water. Didn't get much sleep after that. He got up to go to the loo, and went all dizzy on his way out. Fell to the floor, with sweat pouring from forehead. Temperature has been so high, and not budging with meds. Second visit to the loo resulted in vomitting. He's also had bad headaches on and off since 11 o'clock this morning. Has been in bed all day, but just joined me in the living room. I'm paranoid about meningitis as my niece had this a few years back, and was on life support, but luckily no visible damage. I'm regularly checking C for rashes.

You must be worried hazeleyes, have you looked in C's throat? Do you have a walk in GP centre near you? You may have to take him tomorrow if he's no better, its a long time to wait until Tuesday. Have you tried tepid sponging? I find it quite useful in getting temperatures down when meds have failed. I hope he feels better soon.

Thankyou pq. His temperature has come down in the last 10 mins, which makes me feel happier. He's had a bowl of ice-cream this afternoon too, which hurt his throat, but at least it was cold for him. He is still on settee in living room, just watching tv really. If throat is no better tomorrow, I might have to go to A&E, the walk in clinic is too far, and too expensive in a cab. If he needs antibiotics the sooner the better. Hopefully, we'll both get a good night sleep.

Hope you're having a restful day.

Hello kiera yes I saw that on your thread and hope you all have a better night tonight, your poor son.

Hazeleyes how worrying about C, poor little chap. PQ's idea of the tepid sponging is an excellent one (not cold tho) Hope your night is more peaceful. As well as the rash you could also look for the aversion to bright light and inability to bend the neck forward, tho of course I am not a doctor. It sounds as if you will need to take him somewhere tomorrow if there is not a big improvement, does your doc have an out of hours service at the hospital?

PQ you have been in the wars too, that's awful for you, glad all settled down Hope you will have a good time with your bro and his family. As for children leaving home, it is a weird feeling, I know there are many people who do not believe in empty nest syndrome but I have to disagree with them!

Yes eldest has arrived and we have all had a massive dinner together, youngest got home from work and it was all very raucous with rather a lot of rude jokes (from youngest, not me) Youngest is going out with workmates tonight, eldest is staying in with me, it is church in the morning and a special occasion for me as I am being baptised so eldest is going be Chief Towel Holder, ha.

Watching The Voice now, very interesting, we managed to avoid Doctor Who as well, which was another boon, sorry to Doctor Who fans. Will have to have early night with the clocks moving on. I bet the reason they do it on a Sunday is so that no-one is late for work and school

Hope everyone has a good evening Smile

Oh wow Louise, getting baptised. Exciting day for you all then. Hope it all goes well, and eldest doesn't drop the towel hehe.

I have phoned 111 (like NHS Direct) I hate mixing medicines, but C had a really bad headache (again) and his temperature just won't come down. I wanted advice really on giving calpol as well as nurofen. Women ran through all the checks, which I've been doing throughout the day, plus the head to neck and light etc Louise. She did say a more local walk in centre was open till 7.30pm tonight, which would have left me 20 mins to get there, with a cab. Anyhow, she's advised me to take C there tomorrow morning, as she feels he needs to be seen, but any other developments tonight, and to ring them straight back. She has sent C's details to the walk in centre, so they'll be expecting us (not that that would keep our waiting time down mind) Still hasn't eaten anything, apart from the half slice of toast and ice cream, but getting him to drink plenty of fluids (as much as he's able to manage anyway) Tepid flannel is on standby too, thankyou pq.

Shall head off to bed soon myself.

Have a great time tomorrow Louise. No dunking now!!

Am going to be totally dunked, Hazeleyes, as it is in a big pool Cool

How is C this morning? What sort of a night did you have? Hopefully he can be seen at the walk-in centre this morning, poor you, you must be sick of all these viruses, poor C has really been in the wars this winter.

Happy Easter to everyone, go easy on the chocolate and enjoy time with your families. For anyone who is on their own today, luckily the weather is slightly improved and you could maybe have a blast of fresh air? and there are one or two good snuggling films on the TV so I reckon a day of TLC is in order Laughing

Happy Easter to everyone. Hope you all have a good day, whatever you may or maynot be doing.

Took C to walk in centre early this morn. Have to say, we were so impressed with the clinic, not so impressed with the Dr. Didn't check C thoroughly (like my own GPs would) No check on glands, chest, ears. She said he has a nasty viral infection, throat extremely red, tonsils large. Just told to keep on doing what I'm doing. In and out in 5 mins. If he isn't any better (throat wise) by Tuesday, I shall get him in to see our own Dr. Thankfully, no temperature as yet, so that might have passed (breathes a sigh of relief) I didn't sleep much last night, due to me checking C, and then when I did nod off at 12.30, all hell kicked off next door. Father and son ended up outside in the street, father called police, son smashed his window, and took off. After an hour, went back to bed, finally fell asleep at 3ish, waking regularly to check C. He slept soundly, did have temperature, but I didn't wake him.

kiera, have a good day with your family.

Louise, hope you've dried off now!

Sparkling, I too bought my own egg at a sweet shop this morning. C did offer to pay for it, but I insisted.

pq, I'm sure the girls will share all that they have.

C only has the one that I bought for him. Neighbour brought over some sweets for him on Friday, which is lovely of her. She didn't get an egg, as she thought he'd have plenty.

How wierd is this? Yesterday I checked the RSPCA website, as I'm hoping Smartie (kitten) will be given another home soon, so I do check on it. Anyhow, we knew she was born in the September (same month as C) but on the website, it now says that she has a heart murmur (same as C) I wasn't informed of this at the time of buying her either. Just done a bit of research on it, via the net, and it would mean she'd need an ultra sound to determine the type of heart murmur, so I could have been paying out a lot for her in the first year!

Since taking her back, I've heard a lot of stories regarding the RSPCA, and it's not all good I have to say.

Hello everyone, lots of sweeties and eggs going round, I hear. PQ you must definitely get a little allowance of your own! Have your visitors arrived?

Hazeleyes you must be so tired, glad C's temperature seems better and at least you got him checked over tho you were not happy that the doctor was thorough enough Frown How annoying about the neighbours. Hope you get a better night tonight.

Sparkling the service went well, thank you, I was frozen afterwards as all my clothes were soaked, was glad to get dried and have a cup of tea.

Hope you enjoy the family meal, kiera.

My youngest looks tired out today, his friends have all gone out on a drinking session, he has not gone because he is at work tomorrow. I am glad he is, he was clubbing last night and now I think he needs a few days to recover.I am watching that new series The Village this evening Smile
