Good luck with the portacath today Hopeful (although if I am honest I have no idea what one is ), will you hear today that your bloods are ok, or will that be when you see the oncologist tomorrow?
Anna, a portacath is a little metal box that sits under your skin near the jugular vein with a connection into it. It means that instead of having to look for veins in my arm every time they can just lock into it through there.
No idea when I get the results - probably they'll say they're ok when I turn up on Wednesday and I'll have to argue my case to actually see them. Will ask the oncologist tomorrow though. :-)
Thanks for the info Hopeful, the portacath sounds like a good idea, nurses never seem to be able to find my veins I often come out quite mottled with bruises! Wishing it all goes well for you today
All done! The actual procedure took about twenty minutes (brilliant) - I had no sedative and nobody tried to talk me into one either (yay!). Chatted with the surgeon wether he should take his wife to Vienna for a weekend away and listened to Bon Jovi during the op. A bit sore now, but there was a fair bit of pushing and shoving going on and I am sure it will pass. :-) So all set for Wednesday.
Well done. I'm glad that's done and hope that the soreness soon wears off.
Thats great that you did not have to be sedated, will be thinking off you on Wednesday!
Saw an oncologist today - not the main lovely consultant, but the next one down the ladder who was equally lovely and was impressed with me still studying despite chemo, yay! :-)
Chemo tomorrow, but I get my lecture in first. :-) Just in case I'm not on here for a few days....
Hope the lecture is interesting, and will be thinking of you...
Good luck today, Hopeful.
Hope you're ok hopeful.
Thinking of you and hoping you are getting plenty of TLC
How are you feeling Hopeful? Hope you're okay. x
Wow, I have slept for England! Not so foggy though, because I'm not taking as many antisickness. And I would have come to report back earlier, only I didn't have the energy to fight daughter for the laptop - she was doing homework and surely that has to be encouraged. :-)
Was sick on Wednesday; I think it's because the chemo was earlier in the day and I wasn't lying down quietly. Never mind.
Will hopefully be up and running again by Sunday!
Yes, homework should be encouraged :-)
Hope you have a nice tea for this evening.
Delighted to hear you're okay Hopeful, barring the sickness that is. Sleep is the best medicine too, so get plenty of it. x
Hope you will continue to improve over the weekend, Hopeful. Remember about the lying down next time if this is something you felt helped the first time.
Has anyone made you lasagne?
No lasagne so far (but possibly tonight) - lots of sausages. Yesterday it was cottage pie with lots of cheese in the topping, that was yummy. Tomorrow it will be a roast at the friend's house who is making it.
I had a shower this morning (two days early - the portacath surgeon said to give it a week, but I couldn't stand it any more) so feel more human. Also done the weeks shopping - although I must be a bit foggy: a student colleague had to jump right in my face for me to see him.
Had two naps so far today and daughter has cleared the kitchen and front room and has made fudge - the whole house smells of it - but my tastebuds have taken another dive, just as they had recovered from the last lot! What a shame.
Waaah! but just think of how much you are going to enjoy getting them back again!
Oh no, that's a shame you couldn't enjoy the fudge...
Hope your tastebuds have rallied in time for your roast dinner, Hopeful.
Glad to read you had a couple of cat naps yesterday - how has today been for you?
Hi Hopeful, thinking of you :)
Am fine, have done the washing up (you'd think the little people would do that, wouldn't you....) and am hoping to get on with some uni stuff. Am feeling very much like picking at lots of junk food.... :-/
I shall be fat!
Oh well, fat but happy! If you are worried though, get a big piece of paper and write on it:
Fridge Pickers wear Bigger Knickers...
that always makes me laugh!!
It sounds as though your daughter is looking after you, now how can we get the others to join in?
Glad you're feeling fine.
I always hope little people would wash up - or even not so little little people...
And my not very little people know that the washing up is THEIR JOB
How are you feeling, Hopeful?
I am fine, just waiting for a friend to come for lunch and then some uniwork. and then zumba! :-)
I am fine, just waiting for a friend to come for lunch and then some uniwork. and then zumba! :-)
Ha ha ha! Are you serious! Wow, you must be superwoman. I know it gets your happy hormones working, but please don't overdo it Hopeful
You're going to Zumba? As Anna says, Have fun, but don't do too much
Yay, went to zumba and it was great to be normal. Going again tomorrow. This has been a bit of a mad week (almost wrote wig here...). Zumba Tuesday. Uni and lunch out with the girls on Wednesday (we had RUNNY eggs and chips ). Today I went and got the wig - who is called Cameron - a couple of friends came along for the 'haircut' and then another met us and we went for dinner at the restaurant No1 son works.
Will go out tomorrow again, after Zumba, to a wine and wisdom thing. Bursting with energy, stuff cancer, ha!!!
Good for you hopeful.
Have a great time tomorrow too. x
Glad you enjoyed. Had to snigger at the name of your wig My friend called hers Wanda.
Oh the wig came with the name. There was one called Audrey and we all agreed that would be absolutely impossible! :-)
What kind of hair style did you go for hopeful?
It's kind of a longish bob. They didn't have anything curly, but it's the same colour as my own hair. Went to church with it today (just to show everyone - it's quite itchy, so I don't think I'll use it that much) and everybody loved it. :-)
Hope you're keeping well. It's a same its itchy, but glad everyone liked the style
I just love the name of your wig Hopeful. Cameron is a wonderful name!
Hope you're keeping well. Wow, going to Zumba too, I'm so impressed, you're amazing, as I know my friend goes, and she comes back exhausted.
Keeping very well! Zumba is great, it makes me feel 'normal', if you know what I mean. I feel really good after - and I sleep especially well on Zumba nights. :-)
Hi hopeful, thought I'd catch up on your thread as I felt I didn't really undertand what you're going through at the moment. Sounds like you're coping with a lot but doing it with style. Good for you. Like the sound of zumba but not tried it yet, maybe I should give it a go.
How's the academic stuff going?
Ah, Sparkling - the academic stuff is going mostly ok although I should by now have done lots of reading for the dissertation. BUT when everyone goes on placement in two weeks time I won't (because chemo kills the immune system and I might 'catch' something working in a hospital) - my placement will start in January. So I can use all the time people are in placement to do all the essays. It will be ok.
Being optimistic as usual!
Zumba is great, PQ, do try!
I think that sounds like an excellent plan.
I'm glad you're enjoying zumba. I think that is something I'd have enjoyed. Wonder if they have a sitting down version!!
hi im gona start doin tht zumba when my little girl in nursery ive no1 to av er really. and celebration at freedom programme tomoz and no1 to av my little git, pat craven goin as wellx
Oh kiera it would be a shame if you did not go to the celebration
Hopeful, glad you are doing zumba
Sparkling have a look on you tube for sitting down exercises, they seem to have a good selection
Boodtest tomorrow - I am sure it will be fine and then by Wednesday half of the chemo will be over!
Have come up with a question: why have I lost most of my hair on my head (and some other places), but am still plucking my eyebrows? Such a paradox. But still, I suppose the fewer side effects, the better it is for me.... :-) Not complaining, I seem to have it so easy.
Good luck with the bloodtest today, hopefully it will go smoothly now that you have the portacath.
Halfway through chemo already - well done you! Long live eyebrows!
And eyelashes?
Hope all was ok today.
Hooray for getting halfway through!
A lot of women find losing their eyebrows and lashes more difficult to cope with than losing the hair on their head, so I think it is great you have still got brows. My friend was always miffed that she still had to shave her legs through chemo!
Good luck for the blood test today.
Just had phonecall - my blood's not good enough so EVERYTHING will be postponed by at least a week. I am so upset, just crying now.
The blood test was yesterday btw.
It throws everything, all the planning around stupid chemo, too.
Your friends are brilliant Hopeful. xx
