hello
Oh I don't know about the tooth fairy, even Wikipaedia doesn't know, but in France and Italy it is a little mouse that takes the tooth. The one about the father having his daughter's teeth removed is honestly true, I saw an article about it in a museum, we are talking the 1700s and 1800s though. Also cavemen used to remove body hair with seashells! I am a mine of information
Hi all
Walking to school this morning, my son was carrying a rather awkward shaped toy, that we were delivering to someone at the school. All the way there, I kept saying, 'be careful, shall I carry it now, be careful in case you trip etc etc'. Nearly at the school, and crash, bang, wallop. He is flat on his face, with pure horror on his face :o Immediately, I pick him up, and see a big round bump appearing on his forehead. My son is holding his mouth in horror. Obviously I'm checking for everything, and he blurts out, 'it's ok mummy, my tooth is still there'  (this of course is his wobbly one due to fall out anytime). Once in the school, a teacher has put an icepack on his head. I didn't really want to leave him there, but he assured me he was fine, so I came home quite tearful to be honest
He was so brave in front of everyone, but each time, we were on our own, he would whisper, 'it really does hurt you know'
I shall pick him up, and give him a bag of revels, (no Sparkling, he's not sharing) Just for being my little brave soldier ;)
Awww it's awful when they hurt themselves. And wonderful of him to be brave, and I am sure you will tell him tonight it is Ok to cry when things are bad :( Poor little poppet!
Hi Louise
You just wish sometimes that you could wrap them in cotton wool don't you?
I do of course tell him that it is ok to cry. A friend on the other hand used to tell him at age 4, that 'big boys don't cry'. :o No matter how many times I would tell her, she continued to say it. I guess some people just don't get it!!!!!
Hope you're having a good day. Rather windy, but sun is shining.
Take care
Alison
x :)
It certainly is windy up here, there is a flood warning about 10 miles away (not here) and they have the sandbags at the ready.
re crying, I once caught myself about to say to my son aged one "don't be a baby" and I thought hang on a minute he IS a baby! It's great that we can encourage our sons to show emotion, I am sure they will benefit from that!
Horrendous weather here.
Loads of hugs for your son Alison.

hi all
I have been cut from broadband. I am using a friends laptop, as I am babysitting. I haven't a clue as to when I shall be back on line, but I just wanted to thank you for the support you have given me. Sparkling, you have been a wonderful friend to me on and off the group.. I wish you all well. God, I hate these bloody laptops,
Take care all.
Alison

alisoncam, we hope so much that you will be back with us soon :D
Alison
Our thoughts go out to you and your struggle with BT and hopefully you will be back soon.
C-L
Oh heck Alison. I'm so sorry, as I know this is a bit of a social life for you (as it is for me).
Hope you can get online soon - even if it's for a peek!
Check your emails too.
Loads of hugs to you and your fabulous son.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hey alisoncam, don't you be away for too long!
Missing you already! :D
Alisoncam,
hope you are back soon.
I once had this happen, and I spent ages on the phone trying to sort it out. It turned out I just needed to turn the modem on and off to re-establish the connection!
I'm modems are more sophisticated now.

Hello all,
I got a reply to my complaint letter from Caffcass and the manager (?) would like to arrange a meeting. I'm happy to arrange a meeting but it is a 100 mile round trip and would cost £45. I'm on jobseekers allowance £60/week. I'll try and resolve it over the phone. I need to be clear in my head what I want out of the conversation before I get into it. I don't want a fob-off.
I have received a book from a relative who heard a radio show or some such. It's written by a lawyer. I've just dipped into it.
It seems REALLY GOOD! Although the title mentions fathers it is reasonably even handed and quite practical.
"Fathers Matter' by Celia Conrad (a lawyer). Though, most of you are mums I guess. It mentions a Government review in 2003 of Caffcass which exposed many officers are untrained, unmonitored and poorly managed.

Sorry I've not been on. Have been a bit low and become addicted to a game as an escape, sigh.
Legal Services Commission still not granted me legal aid yet. It's been months now. Always wanting more information. I need to put together a statement soon and have not got a clue.
Have bought some Christmas lights to cheer me up. Though I'm not allowed to have the children until after Christmas.

Hello sadsy, you will be able to have another Christmas for the children, sparkling lime said in a post the other day how much her kids had enjoyed having two bites of the cherry. The first Christmas I was separated I had the kids first thing and then their dad had them for the rest of the day (my choice as he was alone) I had a curry for lunch and watched Brief Encounter and wept buckets for the year that had gone.....and then the kids and I had Christma another day.
That book looks very interesting, and a much-needed guide with the minefield of the legal system. I don't see why you can't have a telephone meeting to sort out with CAFCASS, you need to point out the cost of travelling to a meeting and ask whether they can pay your costs if they insist on a face to face, I know I was once with someone who was called to a CSA appeal and she got travel costs.
Which game is it that you are getting obsessed with?
Hi sadsy, yeah I want to know which game too!
Hmmm,
it's the largest game on the planet, over 11 million unemployed, disenfranchised, addicted people.
Relationships suffering all over the place!
Sigh, it is a welcome distraction from my real life.

Oh I am none the wiser. We are still recovering from the launch of that new Call of Duty one here, my son's friends went wild, with some boys at the shops at midnight, absences from school the next day, a marked rise in overnight taxi usage for adults and the text message network rife with price updates.
oh mi gosh, is it second life?? :o
Come on Sadsy - you have to spill the beans!
C-L
Espace on ebay.
I figure I'm never going to be able to get it fixed, so selling if for peanuts. Very, very, very sad. This car has brought me to my knees financially. Time to let it go...
I know it is sad to have to make that decision, sparkling lime, but you're right it has been so draining. Hopefully the next car you get will be a bit more reliable, they are so expensive to maintain though, will you be able to get another one or is it out of the question moneywise?
Hi Sparklinglime
I am sad that you are having to get rid of your car. If being able to afford another car is not possible at this point in time then you might want to consider car sharing schemes:
http://www.carshare.com/Default.asp?uxi=&cr=check
or
carsharing.carplus.org.uk/
It might be worth looking into.
Cheers C-L
I did get a small car last year. The road tax is £35 per year :)
I can't really do without a car - but did try for four months.
Hi Sparklinglime
yes we have got a small 35 quid road tax car too - they are great as little run arounds I think
c-l
hello everyone!
sorry to hear about your car sparkiling :( sounds like you will be better off with a different one though.
I don't envy you trying to find one. I hate changing cars, I am in a right mess with mine! Brought one in Aug as cheap run around while I tryed to sell my 8 seater, but eneded up with both cars having something wrong & no money. Now I am faced with two mot's in Dec & two road tax in Jan! Can only affoard to get one MOTED, but which one? it's anyones guess
Well, my 13 yr old went yesterday to Scotland, arrived this morning, is out shopping with her Dad's girlfriend while he sleeps as he had to do two nights on coach. She sounds ok at the moment. will be gone for 4 wks altogether, the other two go for about 5-6 days over xmas, then all come back together. Maybe she will want to live there, maybe not, she is not planning to, she wants me to give her the downstairs front room as her own bedroom so she does not have to share with sister when she gets back. Not my idea or hers< BF's! ummm....don't know if I can cope with one small room, not enough space to eat at big table then, but could be worth it I suppose. Alot of shifting furniture & decorating, will get BF to help, his idea!
or maybe she will want to go back, we will see. I am just hoping that I will not get any calls to say things are not right there & she is unhappy. I just hope her Dad will look after her as he should & she will feel happy & secure.
Pansy x
Hi Pansy
Well you can only give it a go, and see what happens, after all it was something she wanted to try.And in the meantime it gives you a chance to spend some time with the others.... :D
Hi Pansy
Good to hear from you. It sounds like you have a lot occupying your mind at the moment. How your daughter is getting on at her dad's, possibility of her moving up their, how he will cope, maybe swapping rooms round etc etc.
I hope you are managing to get a bit of 'me' time in the meantime and switch off a bit and enjoy the quietness of having one less child?!
As Louise said, you can but give it a goo and see what happens, we can't be in control of everything and every possible outcome.
It is good to give it a go - well done!
Thinking of you.
C-L
HI all
Just put computer on and hey presto, broadband is up and running!!! Sadly, I still can't dial out  Maybe Trading Standards are doing something, i don't know yet.
I have missed you guys, it was like an arm being cut off! I hope you are all ok, doing well, health wise etc. I will catch up with everything soon. My son is excited to be on it again, so I guess I'll let him go on for a bit!
Sparkling, have I just read that you have lost the car? I have e.mailed you, so keep me posted.
Love to you all, take care, and I will be thinking of everyone even if i'm cut again!
Alison
xxx :)
Alison we have missed you so much! it might take you a while to catch up on all the news. No, we haven't all won the Lottery ;)
Hope you and your dear little son are Ok and let us know the news when you can. How are you doing? How is your sister? how is your son getting on at school?
Louise, let her believe we won the lottery, if only for a minute!
Good to see you back Alison! When that boy's off to his bed you can tell us what you've been up to. :)
hi Louise
Thankyou so much. I have missed you all too. My son is doing ok. Bit of trouble with the bullying at school but I have that under control, (i hope). My sister is doing well with the chemo, few side effects, but she is doing great!
Not quite sure what is going on with regards to BT. Suddenly I was cut from Broadband, then 2 weeks later, I was cut from outgoing calls. I sent all stuff to Trading Standards, today, I received an acknowledgement from them saying they had spoken to BT, and they were waiting on something, then they would be in touch. After school, my son wanted some christmas songs on the cd, so put the pc on, and hey presto, I saw the internet was back on!!! I am so delighted, but don't know what is going on really. I so hope that it will be on until Christmas, as I don't honestly think I can get through that period without support from the group. I'm not weak, I just know I need support through Christmas.
I also want to be here for others through, what could be a lonely time. If i'm not (for BT reasons), I really want to put it to others, that I'm am thinking of everyone, and I hope you all have a good Christmas. I wish you all the best, and as soon as I can, I will be back to offer support. Love to you all.
Alison.

Hi lindaygii
How are you doing girl!!! Wheres my share in the lottery? haha. Thankyou for the welcome back. I have had tears reading the messages. You lot are all part of my family, and boy have I missed you all.
My boy is never in bed!!!! I have tried to tell all in the above post. God hoping, I will be on again tomorrow, and the next day, etc. I just feel elated that I can post to you all, and (sounds stupid), but I feel so happy and contented tonight. How is your little babe? Did the grandparents get in touch? I hope you got satisfaction, if not, no worry, you are a loving mum, and your son has you consistently in his life, and that is all he needs.....
Take care
Alison

Louise, let her believe we won the lottery, if only for a minute!Good to see you back Alison! When that boy's off to his bed you can tell us what you've been up to. :)
I wrote to the grandparents, then drove round with the letter in my car for a week!
Posted it yesterday. No, honestly, that's how long it took me. Hnh.
Boy is lovely. He is upstairs sleeping, full of sweet potato and asparagus mush. Christ knows what his nappy will be like in the morning. I'm predicting a horror.
Hi lindsay
I can believe it took a week to get round to posting it! No, I don't envy that nappy in the morning, haha. Whatever happens, you stay strong, you'll probably feel angry if you get a negative response, but that is their choice. As much as it hurts you, hopefully, if like my son, your son, won't feel neglected. It's the way you deal with it lindsay..
Take care
Alison
x :)
lindsaygii
well done for posting the letter. :D You have done as much as you can. Their problem if they choose not to engage. And their loss!
hello alisoncam
Well we do hope you can stay with us. If you get cut off again don't forget you can get the Net at your local library for free, sometimes you have to pre-book a session, might be worth just finding out about that as a fallback, and the Xmas opening hours?
Glad you have got things more or less under control re the bullying, sounds like you have to stay on the ball with that one. I am pleased to hear your sister is getting though. Chemo is pretty drastic, but then it has to be :( I am sure she appreciates your support BUT (imaginary glasses coming out of their case now....) please do not overdo it with the hoovering and charging around, you need to look after you too :D
I bet your son is getting really excited about the X Factor. Was he sad the twins went?
Hi Louise
My son was delighted when the twins left. :D He is still hooked on Stacey
Today we are going to my niece's birthday party, which he is very excited about. He also had a friends party to go too, but of course, we can't do both, as they are at similar times.
I haven't seen my sister for a few weeks. She has been phoning me though. Last week I felt unwell with sore throat, so had to keep away from her anyway, and this week, I've been doing stuff for Christmas. I shall be seeing her today though :D
Thanks for the tip about the library, I didn't even think of that. I know there are a few shops with the internet, but right at this moment, I couldn't warrant spending money in there!!!
Are you nearly ready for Christmas? Boy, it really is fast approaching. I am more or less sorted, though still have odds and ends to get. My son's half sisters family are hoping to come here for a few days just before Christmas. Whether that will happen or not is yet to be seen!
My son is going to the theatre with the school on Monday to see Cinderella, so is really looking forward to that. For the first time ever, I only paid for half the trip! It was for £12, and I worried myself sick over that one, but I just explained that I couldn't do it this year, and they were very understanding. The week I paid for that, the school were also selling calenders that the children had made, so I felt obliged to buy that! Next week, they are doing a Christmas fair, and have suggested that the kids take in about £2. It just seems its money money money all of the time at the schools
I hope that you are keeping well.
Take care
Alison :)
A lot of younger gentlemen seem to like Stacey ( :o )
You have done so well to get ready for Christmas, alisoncam, and I agree that schools do ask for lots of money things at this time of year. I could tell you a few tales of my fury about this over the years
I have done most Christmas things too and hope to write out my cards tomorrow, I wish I had the guts (and the money) just to print them out  I jad intended to do food shopping a bit at a time as the weeks went past but I haven't done this so it will be list time before long, though actually when I see some people at the supermarket wheeling giant trollies round I think "Are you having 30 people round for Christmas?" so I am sure many people buy too much, I never have a turkey as they are too big.
Hope the time you will have with your son's half-sister and co. will go well
Hi Alison
Great to see you back here catching up with everyone and letting us know how you and your son are doing. It looks like Trading Standards are working some festive magic on BT (fingers crossed!) Well done for being so organised with your xmas shopping - I have not started yet but hope to do an internet order this weekend for the kids pressies!
You have been sorely missed so it is great to have you back and lets hope it stays that way!
Cheers C-L
Let's not talk about Christmas shopping. Please! :)
I bought some Christmas bits for the children last night... ;)
They've been sent to Santa today
Hi all
Had a fantastic day yesterday. Took my son to his cousin's birthday party. He also went swimming, which totally knocked him out!!! It was great for me also to meet up with other members of the family, (though, I wouldn't do it too often)
Louise, I did start doing some food bits, you know the nibbly bits, but I have to confess, they have been eaten already :o I am a little devil for that, and I can't even blame my son!!!!
Claire-Louise, thankyou for your post. I can't tell you how delighted I am to be back. I hope you are well, I would be panicking big time, if I hadn't done any shopping by now. You're so calm!
Every year, I put some presents under the tree, and so far, my son has left them alone, (apart from shifting them around a bit). A few days ago, however, one of the presents got ripped. He brought it straight out to me, and said, (get this) 'the floor shook, and that's how it got ripped'   So, now, he has just a few, and the rest will be put there when he is tucked up on Christmas Eve. My fault entirely I know, but normally he is brilliant. This year, I know different!!
Hope you all have a good day today. Mine is going to be relaxing, (I hope).
Take care all
Alison
x :)
I have done absolutely no shopping for christmas and not even thought about it yet :o i break up from my course on the 16th tho, my son will still have 2 more days of school left, so I'm planning on some intensive shopping and preparations then...hope I don't regret leaving it so late! fingers crossed i might even pick up some bargains tho...
Nice to hear from you alisoncam
Glad you enjoyed your day yesterday, alison cam :D
I am sure kids get more curious as they get older. To my shame, when I was 15 I went out for the evening on Xmas eve and when i got home my parents were in bed so I unwrapped all my presents, looked at them and inexpertly wrapped them up again. At 15, I was not the most loveable of teenagers and therefore wasn't very interested the next morning as I knew what they all were anyway and hadn't liked them very much...and said so. I behaved very badly indeed. So if there is just a little rip in the paper then you son is doing well!
Bec you will probably benefit from all the pre-Xmas sales!
I have had my trusty A4 pad at the ready this afternoon trying to plan meals and thing for the holiday period, my eldest keeps changing his mind about when he will be staying and while he is here he has to work some days so that will mean a pack-up etc. Also he is more picky about his food so I have to be more careful what I throw into any of my concoctions. I just asked my 15-year old what he was planning ove the Xmas hols and he said "bed, gym amd bed". Sounds like a good idea! although i did reply "No actually, it will be bed, gym, washing up and THEN bed"
Hi All
Great to have you back Alison and really glad your son enjoyed the swimming and cousin's birthday! I am planning to do most of my shopping online tonight as my son's school have just got hold of the Yellow Moon catalogues which look pretty good for xmas stocking ideas and then there is always amazon and ebay so I am keeping calm for the time being. Fingers crossed it lasts.
Bec - 2 days of intensive shopping sounds like it could do the trick and be quite therapeutic too in terms of being able to do it at the end of your term so you can be quite focussed on the task in hand and forget about all the PGCE stuff! Good luck with it.
I keep forgetting who I need to buy for and what to get for each of them so next year I plan to write a list of all the people I need to buy for and what I have already got.
Oh the joys!
C-L
I'm so glad you had a brilliant afternoon Alison.
xxx
I went to Iceland earlier. I've got a turkey crown in the freezer £12), so along with the communities first hamper, that should be dinner sorted.
They had Christmas mugs with fruit sweets in for £1. They're really lovely, so I got some of those. I might get more tomorrow as the children like the idea of giving them as presents. Just have to hope they don't shop in Iceland
Hi all
Bec, thankyou, it is good to be back! I'm sure you'll pick up lots of bargains, there's lots of sales on at the moment, and I'm sure they will go down again.
Reading your post Louise brought back memories of my younger sister and I peeking at presents before the 'big day'. They were great days :D
Sparkling, I have bought those mugs, they are great value, and so cute. Ssshhh, I won't tell anyone they are in Iceland, if you don't.
Claire-Louise, you are bound to do well with those sites. At least they are delivered to the door. I loathe going out in the crowds, pushing, shoving, (honestly that isn't me doing it)!
Supermarket trolleys are full, and there is me with a basket, buying for two.
Wishing you all well
Take care
Alison
x :)
I hate crowds too...
alison - "the floor shook" - ha haa haa ha ahaaaa!!!
On the subject of bargains - let's not forget the Borders closing down sale. I bought a load of stuff there on Friday. At least 20% off all stock, and 30-50% on some of it. Also, not just books, of course, also computer games, dvds, gift wrap and cards.
Louise, that has got to be a joke surely :o
I was chatting to the neighbour this morning about the tooth fairy, (how boring my life is) She is in her eighties, and can't remember where or who it was that started all of that off!
Leave that one to you Louise   ;)
